Welcome to dVerse Poets Pub! My name is Claudia Schoenfeld and I’ll be your host for our sixth OpenLinkNight.
Don’t know how you feel but I’m still a bit verse-hungover from Brian’s birthday party last night..
It was just awesome to see how your birthday wishes and your poetry kept pouring in and rumors are going, Brian is thinking about tatooeing the Birthday train poem on his back…smiles
Feels like we started just yesterday but this morning when everything was still quiet, I stood in the pub, looked around; the chairs already heavily used, stains on the floor and some of you seem to have carved your names into the wooden tables…ts…ts…
But honestly, this is exactly what we hoped it would be like – and each of you makes dVerse such an inspiring place!
So i’m ready to take your orders and serve some cool drinks in case you need a poetry break and you know, the comment section is always open when you feel like having a chat with friends and to tell us whatever is on your heart…..enjoy!
Here’s how it works…
- Post a poem to your blog,
- Link your poem to dVerse (1 link, please) by clicking on the Mr.Linky button below.
- This opens a new screen where you’ll enter your information, and where you also choose links to read. Once you have pasted your poem’s blog url and entered your name, click Submit.
- Don’t forget to let your readers know where you’re linking up and encourage them to participate by including a link to dVerse in your blog post.
- Visit others who have linked and leave comments to let them know what you appreciate about their poem or how it affected you.
- Spread the word on the poems you enjoy if you’d like. Feel free to tweet and share on the social media of your choice.
- Enjoy being part of this community.
Have a great time everyone! See you out on the trail.
I just took a poetic puff… and I am in no mood of exhaling it… 🙂
I’ll be right over, LOL, Amy
welcome to another great night of poetry…mic is open…share your verse..
Thanks for being our host, Claudia. Always ready for a silly-able dance! Amy

A satirical romp tonight – no need to bring your dictionary there are footnotes or you can even listen to my 12+ minutes reading the monster. Thanks for hosting Claudia, y’all are awesome, as ever!

Just curious… How does everyone get their links up so fast?
Some post poems on blogs before time, Laurie and then, as soon as it’s the hour they click in and paste their URLs! Others may not be breathlessly waiting in front of their computers. They get assigned higher numbers which is not all bad as I have found most people start reading in the middle…neither from the bottom up or the top down. At least that’s what I keep telling myself (smiles).
Hey Claudia! Some of those name carvings are going to be worth big money someday, I think…perhaps enough even to finance a poetry franchise opportunity! (how un~poetic of me!) Power to the Poets! I so look forward to this 🙂
power to the poets! cheers tash and one day we’re auction these carved tables at Sotheby’s….smiles
Fire walk! Too much? 😉 thank you for hosting lovely Claudia, its always a pleasure. Look forward to a soul refill! Thanks everyone for all your support and inspiration! Share the words, share the love ~ Rose
Missed last week, but happy to be back to the festivities for this week!
Cheers!
glad to be here. thanks for hosting tonight, claudia (and sorry about the table carving thing 😉
We weren’t going to name names…but, since they ARE clearly evident on the tables! 😉
Thanks for hosting, Claudia. I thought I would try to get mine in a little earlier this week. Will not be back until tonight to do some reading, but the two I read so far were superb. Looking forward to some great art. I appreciate everyone.
Henry! We appreciate YOU! Wonderful write this week…love that rhyme and rhythm, and that image was fantastic!
..ah, mine’s up and a shorty this week.. many thanks Miss Claudia for leading the fun this eve.. and too bad, i missed Brian’s party but i’ve extended my late greetings over at his page… hope he has read it.. hehe.. (:
~Kelvin
Good to see you’ve got the doors open and the bar taking orders, Claudia. I’m around for back up, and I hope when all those dirty glasses start piling up, Brian remembers his birthday was *yesterday.* Looking forward to another night of needing a designated driver by the time I leave. ;_)
Thanks Claudia and everyone at dVerse … will be tweeting your blog and commenting on all the wonderful poets posts later. Have to go and pick min-monster up at the airport. Home form her holidays today!
oh nice – enjoy the reunion with your min-monster…smiles
Oh man!! I seem to have missed Brian’s Birthday party. (*sulk) I love his poem.
Ok Im gonna get some coffee sit back and enjoy the poets now!
always a good time at the pub 🙂
cheers david
ha ha – it’s getting full in here…we need more chairs..smiles
I’m still laughing at Kavita’s puffing comment…LOL!
We are feeling rather shaky here on the East coast…just had an hour ago a 6.0 earthquake in Washington, DC. How appropriate!
Felt it all the way to Montreal and down a bit to NC…Georgia. Cats scattered before I knew that anything was happening. Heard a BOOM though and wondered….though it was a sonic boom.
So glad to be here on more solid ground. Hoping it wasn’t going to be a Japanese situation deja vu.
Have posted something with a tiny bit of erotica…or explanation. Hope that no one is offended. Don’t read if you are…(except how can you tell without reading??? LOL)
Lady Nyo
Brian! Hope your birthday was great!
Brian, 23 again??
I always include links to sites when I post; it’s wonderful to hear back from folks who have followed the links and discovered new poetry!
Glad I caught you in time again. This is a good week. Peace, y’all, Amy Barlow Liberatore
My first time here though i been trying from last three weeks .. Hope you all have a great time ! Rock on !!

The Road Ahead
A purple scarf on an unmade bed
The dying embers of things unsaid
A caravan of thoughts traipse through her head
In search of parchment prayer
Wounded souls along the way
Make little difference to the anvil of day
Scorpion skeletons have nothing to say
Yet make everyone aware
The queen upon a vagabond said
To her knight who held a knife to his head
Yield!
I don’t want Him
Dead
I’ll receive his blessing instead.
And the road ahead was clear…
Dennis M McNamara
(I havent got a Blog I’m afraid but will rectify that shortly :-))
hey dennis – nice to meet you..much like the scorpion skelettons in your poem the purple scarf on an unmade bed is a great image….and i’m always up for all kind of knight stories…the middle age was a fascinating time in europe. in basle, we still have some of the old houses from the 13th century where the knights used to live in close to the city wall..
and if you need some tips regarding blog…give us a shout…
Oh yes! This Poet needs a blog indeed! Wonderful share Dennis! Camelot here I come!
nice…thanks for jumping in the comments before even opening up…and with verse like that i look forward to it…smiles…
Dennis – Great images – I love this heraldic imagery speaking to the present. Getting a blog is easy and fun but warning…it’ll become your passion in no time!
wow, and I thought going to the lake last night and watching the sunset was a good time, I guess you guys really rocked this place overnight.
Thanks again for all the new reading material. Lovin you guys. I made cookies today, be sure to take one on your way out. [milk’s in the fridge]

Hi Claudia…

Well, hello again, Claudia! I can only picture you in Roma now. lol. Spanish Steps, fountains, little cafes, et al. Good to be back again. Cheers!
ha ha – yes – somehow my heart seems to still sit on these spanish steps…sigh..
great to see you jackie

Missed the Roma ‘challenge’ (knew I just wouldn’t manage to get around and read everything I wanted to – still struggling with that), but couldn’t let this one go past without something! Thanks guys for an amazing opportunity and a great pub! *a round to all those slaving behind the bar and on the floor*
ha ha – great to see you… i’ll take a beer please when i finished sweeping the floor…..and the roma challenge was my own personal challenge…smiles
Claudia! Haven’t had tons of time online these days… mostly work, but also writing a novel in verse! But always happy to drop by, see the amazing community take shape, and of course share a pint or two. 🙂
hey samuel, so good to see you at dVerse…will get you a pint and then tell us about the novel you’re writing…sounds awesome
Thanks for the pint, next round’s on me! ….Verse-novel will be woven around my loose interpretations / adaptations of the poems of Kotaro Takamura to his wife Chieko, as he professed his love even as she descended into madness. It’s a fascinating story that I’ll have a parallel to in the modern world. I’m up to 15,000 words now, so roughly 1/3 of the way done with the first draft. So far, so good!
wow sam – this sounds awesome

So very happy to have found you all — looking forward to reading and being read!
we are glad you found us as well…
The cat is slow with the comment retort, be I figured I’d pull up a chair at the dVerse court.
cat you comment on the lot, chase you around the circuit, hot on your tail, nearly caught you a few times but oh well…here is a saucer of milk, for your rhyming silk
I’m here, Claudia, with my dancing weasel and my card tricks. 😉
I was wondering where those weasel droppings came from. I thought someone accidentally let a politician in.
LOL on the politician… let’s see how the weasel and Pat’s cat are getting on.. smiles
great to see you shay.. and i’m all up for card tricks..
as long as it does not start making campaign promises (poetic or not) we are ok…
Looking forward to some great contributions in the bar tonight.

I’m glad you’re here, I love the volume of poems your site brings. I hope it’s okay that I posted a link to a piece written to a prompt from another site. I thought it might give Margo Roby’s site a bit more exposure, and provide a wider audience for my piece, too. ~Brenda
Thanks for hosting this! Here’s my Limerick Braggart.
This joint reminds me of the Peabody Book Shop and Beer Stube, a epic pub that stood for decades on Charles Street in Baltimore, just above Mount Vernon Square and the Peabody Institute. It was a basement place, and had been a “speakeasy” during Probition. So even in the 1960s — although alcoholic beverages had been legal again from more than 30 years — it still had antiques and a book shop in front. You walked through that to the old, dark bar in back, a room with sawdust on the floor, heavy wooden tables that generations had carved their initials into, and a fireplace with a huge stuffed moosehead over it. Had many pleasant nights there with friends. One particularly memorable one, we came out at closing time to find the whole world transformed and aglow with an inch of snow! And laughed and laughed as we slipped and slid up the hill toward home. ENJOY!
Thanks for a true compliment. That’s a pub I would have loved to have experienced a good crawl through, book and glass in hand. It reminds me just a bit of the old City Lights book store in San Francisco, though no booze on tap there, just a sense of rarefied weirdness congregating amidst the tomes, very heavy on the Beat poetry back then. Wonder if it’s still around.
O well, at least we are!
The Peabody also had a resident magician — Dantini. He had about three tricks he did over and over. But when he died, he lay in state in Baltimore and thousands flocked to pay final tribute. A true Baltimore institution — the man and the pub!
I loved that place! OMG I had nearly forgotten it. I was there in the 60s and had my first hot buttered rum there. Wanted to stay forever. It was so Baltimore when Baltimore was bubbling over. Wish I could go back to that point in time! Thank you so much for mentioning it. I’m tasting that HBR and remembering the books and how much I loved my new husband! We were just taking the world on and having so much fun! We were talking poetry, math, and music – so great.

Just up and ready to start round two. Brian–good job on the glasses, and Claudia you are keeping this place spotless. I did open a window or two to let some of the smoke from all those burning words out, and cranked up the espresso machine for some morning caffeine.
So when do we all get to read Brian’s fabulous rewrite of the great birthday poem.
I would like an expresso, I have a lot of browsing to do today!
Coming right up. There were muffins, but someone ate them all. ;_)
My bad on the muffins…left for work this morning still drunk on poetry and forget my breakfast! Sorry!
That’s okay, Tash–I say we send brian out for cookies.
