I bid you welcome, poets to the bar
today it’s Tuesday. Björn will serve your ale
November winds a’howling, bringing rain
like little drummer-boys on window sills
communicating menace of the fall
a perfect reason to join us here inside
we’re having warmth from roaring fireplace
So, please come in and have a glass of wine
we serve it warm with spice to light your soul.
I bid you welcome poets from afar
for some it’s evening and for other’s morn
for some it’s spring, as we have deepest fall
but all are here with poem from their world
that tell of joy or sadness in their life
I bid you welcome poets young and old
today’s a night to welcome someone new
while other’s know the routines in our bar
tonight, please kindly visit someone new
and leave a comment and thus acknowledge
that a poet’s always welcome to our bar
So welcome friends to the bar tonight. Just a quick reminder of the house-rules:

Welcome everyone and a happy Thanksgiving for those celebrating.. and a happy Tuesday for everyone.. Smiles
Brilliant, poetic intro, Bjorn. Enjoy, everyone, and thank you. Will be back to read after a quick errand.
Welcome back … hope the place will be packed… despite Thanksgiving..
Thanks, Bjorn! Tomorrow is the day to start the cooking process here. Turkey is waiting in the refrigerator. LOL.
Ahh.. cooking for days and days.. sounds like that’s a big part of the fun…
nice… maybe i should cook a thanksgiving dinner for the fam even though we don’t celebrate it “officially” over here… maybe will ask for a recipe then mary…
I think European ovens are too small to fit a turkey in … maybe stuffed chicken??
I say go for it, Claudia! My hub started cooking/prepping Sunday. I do the clean up.
Happy Thanksgiving. And thanks for a wonderful site!
Happy Thanksgiving back…:-)
What a great intro! Very bardic – cool way to set the tone! 🙂
Why not a little pentameter.. should be the life-blood of poets. hehe
Indeed! 🙂
Yay! Happy Tuesday all. I wrote this poem on my phone, standing in the street outside Liverpool Street station in London. I then put the post up in drafts whilst eating my lunch. Little did I know that when the bar opened at 8pm London time, I would still be in London, courtesy of major disruption to the trains… So I posted and linked up – on my phone again – whilst waiting on a crowded train to go home…. Oh the joys!
Ha.. yes linking up using your phone I have tried a few times too… it works… but can be frustrating… hope you make it home allright at the end.
I got there, finally! Thank you 🙂
happy oln everyone… a bit late as i forgot time while painting…oy…but out on the trail now to read what you brought to the table…smiles
Welcome Claudia.. a very good excuse to paint I think… have perfect night.
oh wow björn…what an intro…so warm and welcoming…. did you bring your harp… ? that would be nice if you could sing it to us…. and an ale for me please…sir…smiles
ale’s for sale today.
A lovely, welcoming introduction! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and not just because of the food…Ok, that, too.
At a time, a season where we are exposed on TV to all the “Black Friday” ads and push to shop until we drop…we forget the purpose of Thanksgiving….a thankfulness to worship as we please, or not to! A remembrance of WHERE the food we put in our bellies comes from: farmers, who toil hot and long hours in the fields, and even though so much has been taken over by agribusiness….the farms and farmers and their devoted families have fed not only this country, but also contribute to the world. So….I am humbly thankful, filled with gratitude, to those who labor where I do not. (Except for my growing collards who have survived the cabbage worms and the freezing rains…)
Posting “Orpheus and Eurydice”, a poem….and HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Everyone!
Lady Nyo
Oh yes.. I could fully understand the contrast of the Black Friday and the holiday .. I think at the end we should just give up buying new stuff… read an article today about buying second hand and how much we could decrease our carbon foot-print by doing that instead…
Agree, Bjorn! we have too much material things by far.
Second hand rocks!

Lovely intro, Bjorn. This poem came to me over a week ago now. It is about a death. This year two wonderful new things are not reflected in my poem: a first birthday for a great grand niece! And!!!! I just finished typing-to-template a manuscript for my first poetry collection. Now I have to decide whether to send it to self-publish before Christmas or to wait for readers and designers …. Am I more excited or more anxious? That is the question.
Ha!
I think this sounds like great news Susan.. I would so like to learn about self-publishing …. what and how.. this is exciting news… best of luck… no matter the timing.
Thanks, Bjorn. I’ll be back to read all over the next few days. My brother will be arriving momentarily for dinner, and then in the morning we’re heading off to Ohio for Thanksgiving. Mom and Dad already arrived safely. I’m not used to such a big fuss, but here I go.
Oh have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
glad your fam arrived safe and i hope the same with your brother…have a wonderful thanksgiving susan….
I self-published my first. It’s fun and a bit labor intensive. Got the print copies a week or so ago from CreateSpace. I’d say quite user-friendly if I could figure it out. I’m a bit obsessive, but did the edits and re-writes myself…over and over again. The neat thing about Create Space is that you can change it any time you see something you want to change. And the results are very well done. Good luck with it, Susan.
Late and very short tonight – I’ve had a busy day.
Ah welcome, and enjoy the warmth in here Viv…
that is quite ok viv….rawr….ha…smiles.
Hiya Bjorn, what a kind way to make us hunt out a first timer here and tell them what fun this OLN is.
I’ll take you up on the offer of Gluhwein or whatever is appropriate on this first really, really old day here in the UK. Had snow yet, up North?
My poem for this evening is short, but my personal notes are long, so feel free to skip over those, whoever is brave enough to stop by.
for -old- read -cold-, sorry, typo again.
No snow yet… but rather cold.. I would recommend glögg here… there is a recipe on my homepage…
have to check that out…
glogg….i def need to check that out…what a name…smiles.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I count myself blessed to have found this place. Thanks to Sam for spreading the word on social media ~
We all owe this place a great deal.. and poetry on the internet.. what a brilliant idea.
ha. you know…in the 2.5 years we have been doing this…i dont think anyone has ever opened in verse…that is way cool bjorn…..
i’ll be out on the trail as soon as i get the buses out of here….
I think Laurie did one poetic intro, but maybe it was not here.
ah… someone had to be first.. and I did it in blankverse which some think is the closest to prose.
see why you got to go bringing form into this bjorn…just enjoy the poetry…ha….
I like blank verse…the meter is a nice structure but without the requirement of rhyme, it seems more “free.” Nice job with yours.
What a call to come on in to the warmth of the pub! Thanks Bjorn 🙂 And a happy upcoming Thanksgiving to those in the states 🙂
This is the warmest place on the internet.
Hello Björn! I enjoyed your poetic greetings!
I enjoy that you enjoyed it 🙂
Nice warm welcome, Bjorn…Always pleased to see you as barkeep 🙂 Happy Holidays to you! I’ll have a little mulled wine, if you please !
Mulled wine I have plenty.. after all it’s the season
Somebody called annell, whom I think maybe new, has a link that doesn’t work. Maybe somebody in charge could look into that?
I have corrected I hope… at least I have linked to the newest poem from annell
annell is good people…she has been in and out of the pub for a while….def drop in on her though…smiles.
Good evening Bjorn. I hope this evening finds you well. Tonight I am in Edinburgh so a single malt for me please!
oh nice… you should meet tony when you’re in edinburgh…
Would love to!
Ah Single Malt — that warms in a November night
Late in tonight – and just a flying visit because I’m really tired. I’ll be out on the trail tomorrow though … smiles
ah i hear you… bedtime for me as well over here… *yawns* … smiles…
Goodnight Claudia..
Nice to see you here Tony… yes it’s bed-time here too..
sleep well all of you…still got a few hours here…but freezing cold and wet….trying to get my fingers to thaw so i can type….ha…
Hi Bjorn – the snow has been finding us here in Colorado off and on all week… finally a fairly decent day today. It’s always good to come in to the pub and share a pint. Thanks for being here.
I’ve posted a little bit of November’s seasonal seduction… take good care!
Jay
Snow — that sounds nice, heard the lament of too little snow from some guests visiting from Boulder.. hope you can bring out the skies soon.
Most of the ski resorts have been getting good snow lately. Thanksgiving weekend ski trip is certainly in order!
Why did it by-pass us (in Reno)? We usually send it on to you.
So Goodnight everyone.. I’ll be heading to bed.. hope you all find your way in the bar 🙂
Bjorn, an aquavit please. I’ve tossed a post composed for real toads last week into the ring, slightly edited, with a soundcloud. Cheers, and good week to all.
Happy Open Link Night to Bjorn and to all!
our swedish Bjorn
is mad about form
he dreams in rhyme
and that is fine
we all wave
and say hi
from down under
to the swedish thunderbolt
of rhyme and rumba:)
Ahh what fun response 🙂
Bjorn! You’re in grand form 🙂 Happy Tuesday!
heya! good to see you sara….smiles…
good morning…. cup of coffee and catching up…
heading to bed myself…
big shout out to Alex Dissing and Katie (punkrock)…saw both of you all over the place commenting tonight…sorry so many are not hitting you back…but know your efforts are appreciated…same to you Bjorn…thanks for hosting and making people feel welcome.
Good night – and good morning – will do some catchup but most of it will be tonight.
Thank you for hosting BR and your wonderful verse to get the ball rolling – none from me today (Wednesday 8:33pm) as I write – a wee bit tired – hopefully I shall get a chance to catch up with some tomorrow though. Happy Writing Everyone.
Such a wonderful welcome Bjorn Rudberg, that I couldn’t resist the temptation to write more than one for this week’s Open Link Night..
Happy Thanksgiving everyone 🙂
I love that you greeted us with a poem!! Thankyou Bjorn!!
Love to have a poetic welcome
Wonderful opening for a fantastic OLN! I’m in the process of finding some inspiration…
Look forward to some 😉
Cheers! I ended up writing about writing a poem when one does not know what to write about. A bit of a joke, but with some personal truth.
made it back in the pub and about to hit the trail to catch up a bit..
Hi Claudia.. Same here… Just returned from an evening at the Bianci cafe – yes restaurant and bicycles combined.
how cool is that…. it’s freezing cold over here…no biking weather…
No biking today either… but I have put spiked tires on.
