Greetings everyone! Mish here to welcome you into our cozy pub for poets. It’s Open Link Night, your opportunity to link up ONE poem for our reading pleasure.
There is no specific form or theme required for OLN but if you are looking for a little inspiration, here is an optional mini prompt.
Consider these lines of wisdom by American author, H. Jackson Brown Jr.
“Be a cactus in a world of delicate flowers.”
“Hope is not a resting place but a starting point – a cactus, not a cushion.”
You may also be a(mused) by these photos of cacti taken on a walk at Dripping Springs, Las Cruces, New Mexico. It was nice to escape the chill of our Canadian winter for some desert sunshine. If you choose to use the mini-prompt, you are free to use my images.

Here’s how to join in:
- Write one poem and post it to your blog.
- Enter your name and direct link to your poem into Mr. Linky.
- You will also find some other amazing poems! Please read and comment.
- Link back to dVerse so others can find us too.
- Drop in to say hello in our discussion below.
- Have fun!

Hello friends! Welcome to OLN. Winter still lingers here so hot chocolate and/or a shot of Baileys Irish Cream is available but I can whip up any beverage you’d like to quench your thirst. Oh…..and help yourself to some freshly baked cranberry-walnut cookies. Enjoy!
Hi Mish! I forgot tonight’s prompt included optional cactus photos. I adored Björn’s poem so much. Perhaps there will be others with more 🌵. I’ll grab a couple of those cookies. They sound delicious.❤️
Good evening… nice to be here… a very strange day that just exist every fourth year, so we should probably celebrate… a glass of cider for me please.
Hi Bjorn….yes, I suppose we should! A nice cold glass coming up. I might have to pour one for myself. That sounds good.
Good evening all, and thank you for hosting, Mish. I’m already getting ready for next week’s visit to my daughter for Lucas’s sixth birthday, and I won’t be back until 11th March. I’ll probably miss most of the prompts, but I’ll try to drop by. I’m looking forward to better weather and visits to the park with the boys. As it’s cold and windy here at the moment, a hot chocolate with a shot of liqueur would be welcome, please.
Hi Kim! 🙂 I hope the weather is fabulous for you and the grand-kids! A special hot cocoa coming up.
Hi Mish! I’m trying to think of a way to make “leap” and cactus sync into a poem. Do you suppose a shot of Bailey’s would help?! 😉
You sit on the cactus, and then you leap.🌵😂
You read my mind! 😃
😂🤣😂
Um…I think Melissa has it right. You might need this Bailey’s now though…hahaha.
I’ll take it! Cheers!
Hi Mish and All,
Nice to be back again at dVerse. Hope this finds you well…
Something new only just newly published on the website… This time round, a much sweeter piece for early Spring, as something of a salve in respect of the far more testing poem released at the end of last year. Ironically enough that last one might have been more suitable for tonight. Being, as it was, rather spikier and more cactus like…
Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with a bit later tonight UK time.
Regards as ever
Scott
Hello Scott…nice to see you and I look forward to reading your less “spikier” poem.
I’ll have what Kim is having please! It’s cold here, and I have the flu! I’ll link up tomorrow morning.
One hot chocolate with a wee splash of Bailey’s for you. I hope you are feeling better soon!
Hello Mish and All. A tall mug of hot chocolate with a shot of Baileys sounds perfect! We had 73F on Tuesday, 23F yesterday, and 31 today. I need that warm drink in the worst way.
Hi Lisa! I can relate. The weather has been crazy lately. A nice warm mug on its way…..
Good evening, Mish. Might I have a brandy please? 🌵
Hello Lesley…I can take of that for you. Thanks for dropping in. 🙂
So kind. Thanks, Mish. Here’s to your health. Cheers! 🥃
Oh excuse my typing! One brandy coming up.
Thank you for hosting Mish. There was a sunrise in my spirit today, so I wrote a pantoum of positivity. Imagine that… 🤔🤷🏻🙂✌🏼🫶🏼
Sounds wonderful, Rob!
Hi Mish, thank you for hosting! I wanted to get mine posted while it’s still leap day, but I’ll be back to read in the morning.
Thanks for stopping in, Merril. 🙂
😊
Hi Mish. Thanks for hosting. I liked the lines you gave as mini prompt.
Thanks, Punam 🙂
Hello, Mish! Thanks for hosting. I look forward to reading what others have come up with.
Hiya Jay! Enjoy the poetry trail.
Cosy sounds delightful, thank you Mish for hosting.
My pleasure, Paul. Thanks for joining in. 🙂
Late as always – very late – had a plane to catch as you will see…
No worries! Thanks for joining in. 🙂
