ANNOUNCEMENT

Call for Poetry Submissions: Krisis: Poetry at the Crossroads (Working Title)
In celebration of our 15th anniversary in 2026, dVerse Poets Pub invites poets from around the globe to contribute to our upcoming anthology, Krisis: Poetry at the Crossroads. Rooted in the Greek word krisis, meaning a pivotal decision point, we seek poems that explore moments of transformation, choice, and change.
Submission Period: April 1, 2025 – June 30, 2025
More information here. (There is a tab at the top left of the dVerse page, as well.)

Hello, dVerse Poets! We’re getting close to the final date to submit to the anthology. With that in mind, this prompt today may give you another poem to submit, should you choose to do so.

Recently, there was a poetry prompt on BlueSky on “defeat.” I’ve been thinking about how close the line sometimes is between triumph or victory and defeat. A war may turn on a battle. One side wins, and the other side is defeated. In a sports event, one side usually wins, and one side loses; similarly, this occurs in elections, and in things such as getting a job, or a grant. In love, someone might choose one partner over another. I also thought of how, sometimes one is defeated, but that turns out for the best. Perhaps you didn’t get a job you really wanted, but then you ended up with one you liked much more. Perhaps you heard later that the person you thought you loved turned out to be a horrible person.
From the explanation of the theme: “Krisis is the space between what was and what will be.”

For example, Emily Dickinson’s poem, “Success is counted sweetest”

Maya Angelou, “Still I Rise”

And Maggie Smith’s “Good Bones”

If you’d like an ekphrastic option, consider this painting by Peter Paul Rubens, “The Fall of Icarus” (1636). I know the story of Icarus has become almost a cliché but imagine the moments before he fell. Try to find a fresh approach to the story.

Second Announcement:
Thursday, June 19th is the final Open Link Night before the dVerse Summer Break. On open link nights, you may share one poem on any theme, BUT for this time only, if you are considering submitting them to the anthology, you may post up to three poems. There is also an opportunity to join other dVerse poets in a live event on Saturday, June 21 at 10:00 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time (New York Time). The GOOGLE MEET link will be posted on the dVerse site.

So, today’s prompt is to write about that thin line between triumph and defeat, or if you’d like, you may focus on one or the other. You may respond to the poetic examples or the painting, as well.
