De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo. It’s time again for that pithy, prestigious little nugget of poem goodness we here at dVerse call the Quadrille: a poem of precisely 44 words, including one word we provide.

Here in my hemisphere, it’s summer. And here in Southern Nevada, that means extreme temperatures, hibernating in the air conditioning, and waiting for early October, when things finally cool down some. And getting out of Dodge as often and for as long as possible. For us this summer, it meant a couple of amazing trips: to France (plus Geneva and London) to visit our daughter who was studying abroad, and to the Pacific Northwest and Lake Tahoe. For me, this right here is the essence of summer…

Today, I’d like to you to ponder the secrets of summer, and use some form of the word in your 44-word poem.

And then, of course, there’s this summer sonnet by The Bard:

Summer can be a verb. As in, (**insert slightly snooty voice here**): “dah-ling, our family summers in the Hamptons, of course.” Summersault, summery, summerset, summer song. Write about the Summer Olympics™. Your dream summer house. Your summer vacation. Or summer-ize your thoughts with a full-tilt tribute to good ol’ summertime

However you choose to use it, just be sure your poem is exactly 44 words long, and includes some form of the word summer.
