Hello Friends! And Happy Thanksgiving to our USA friends!

It is the last week of November and it is pretty cold here in Ontario, Canada. The days are shorter with sunrise at 7:26 am and sunset at 4:46 pm. It has been an unusually warm autumn but all of this is coming to an end, with the arrival of winter snow this weekend.  While we are surrounded by death and decay, I know that it is springtime in the Southern Hemisphere (e.g. Australia, New Zealand).

I love this November poem by Alice Winifred Finnegan, Poetry November 1933 Vol. XLIII No. II.  Source

For today’s Poetry Form, we will be writing a Nove Otto. This poetry form was created by Scott J. Alcorn. It is a nine-lined poem with 8 syllables per line (isosyllabic). The rhyme scheme is as follows: aacbbcddc.   Shadow Poetry

Here is my poem with the rhyme scheme:

November
by Grace Guevara

The leaves are speckled yellow gold    (a)
Scattering dust on field, so cold          (a)
Where is the summer sun’s chatter     (c)
As sky turns grey and lake iced blue    (b)
Birds and bees have flown away, true  (b)
Late autumn serves harvest platter     (c)
Filled with melancholy. Night clings     (d)
Of ripeness. Awaiting sweet sting        (d)
Of last breaths. How you live matters   (c)

Poetry challenge: Write a poem using the Nove Otto poetry format. Suggested themes are November, endings or beginnings, and gratitude (in the USA, it is Thanksgiving Day).
