Hello! Welcome back to the first Poetics prompt for 2025! Melissa here from Mom With a Blog. I hope you rung in the new year with loved ones and happiness. I pray that your year ahead is filled with peace and beauty. Speaking of which…
I have long been an admirer of the photography pursuits of fellow blogger, Michael Sammut. He captures the beauty of the natural world during his travels. Among his photography are many birds, insects, and others. For this Poetics prompt, I’d like to feature some of his photography.

Your mission today, if you choose to accept it, is to write a poem in response to one of the photos featured here. Let the beauty of the natural world inspire you.

Please show us (in your post) which image you choose! All of the photography included herein is used with permission of Michael Sammut. Please credit him as photographer of the image you choose for your poem.

If you’re new, here is how to join us:
- Write a poem in response to the prompt.
- Enter your name and a link directly to the post containing your poem into Mr. Linky. Remember to check the box to accept use/privacy policy.

Good evening poets, and thank you Melissa for hosting with an image prompt, which I love, and these images are gorgeous! I hope you like my poem.
Aren’t they? I love his photography. I tell him he should sell prints.🤩 Heading over to read now!
Thank you for hosting Melissa, our first Poetics for 2025. Gorgeous photos of nature.
Welcome back to all our poets. I look forward to reading your poems.
Thanks, Grace! I thought it would be a bright way to start off Poetics for the New Year.🤗
I love to write to images, even though it feels very distant with such tropical theme
Me, too. I did think of that, being it’s winter here. Then I thought, there’s no time like the present!
Welcome back, my lovely poets. We are rising out of the ashes of yesterday’s burning haibun. If you’re feeling adventurous, we have homemade firewater, or “Paia Wara” to pass around; or if you’re not keen on feeling the burn, we have Papua New Guinean coffee. Try Kaukau na Painap (pineapple and sweet potato skewers grilled and served with butter); or fried plantains. For dessert we have banana cake to go with that cup of coffee. As always, I’ll get you anything you like. Happy to see you all and here’s to a wonderful 2025!🥳
What a tropical delight you are serving Melissa. I would like to try that kaukau na painap with a banana cake. Thank you for kicking off our Poetics for 2025. Cheers!!!
Absolutely, Grace! Enjoy!🍍🍠
