Lillian here, happy to be tending the pub for Tuesday Poetics! Today, I thought it was time for a sweet-a-licious prompt!!! Don’t know about you, but I literally cannot have sweets in the house. If I do, I gobble them all down in a day or two. Yup – I admit to having a sweet tooth. So – I thought, why not share a bit of my personality with you dVersers??? Let’s have some fun with sweets!!
Today, I’d like you to create a poem using any one or more of the names of the candies listed below. You cannot change the name itself or the order of the words in the name or add any words between the words in the name….but, if there’s the word “bars” at the end of the name, you can feel free to eliminate the word “bars”. So for example, if you choose to use Milky Way Bars in your poem, feel free to just use the words “milky way”. They do have to be in that order though…no words between “milky” and “way”. Mr. Goodbar must be used as is. So here is the extensive list you can choose from (and yes, they are all bonafide real candies!)
Bit-O-Honey Red Hots
Chuckles Good & Plenty
Big Hunk Bars Lifesavers
Snickers Butterfinger
Kit Kat Mild Duds
Pay Day Oh Henry Bars
Skittles Mike & Ike
Dots Starburst
Twix Razzles
Three Musketeers Sweetarts
Charleston Chew Mr. Goodbar*
Whoppers Twizzlers
Sugar Babies Tootsie Rolls
Milky Way Bars Watchamacallit Bars

Have fun with this one. The good news is, unlike eating any of these candies, your poems won’t have any calories!!
New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules? Here’s what to do:
- Write a poem that includes at least one of the names of a candy listed above. You can delete the word “bars” from the candy name, but you can not change the order of the words in the name or add any words between the words in the name.
- Post the poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and comments, and others will find dVerse and hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!
Good evening, Lill! Thanks for hosting. My poem is short and sweet as England ladies are playing football against Italy, not that I’m watching, bu my husband will be. Also, I’m keeping an eye on additional link-ups to my prosery prompt. I think something sweet would go down a treat today, perhaps a Snickers ice cream, please.
Snickers ice cream coming right up! Enjoy your football (soccer?) game and say hello to your husband for me!
Thank you, Lill, Will do!
Hello dVersers! Welcome to Tuesday Poetics at the pub. In keeping with the prompt’s theme, we’re offering the normal libations as well as chocolate martinis and mocha lattes. There’s a huge bowl of every kind of candy mentioned in the prompt sitting on the bar…help yourself. And, in addition, we have Julia Child’s chocolate mousse!
Looking forward to reading your posts today! Hope you have some fun with the prompt!
Hello Kim, Lillian, and All. Such a fun prompt. How about a reasonable (by your estimation) dish of chocolate mousse, with a cup of hot peppermint rooibos tea please?
Hi Lisa! Glad to see a taker on the mousse….I make Julia Child’s recipe once a year, for our family Christmas gathering. Have added it to the pub just this once….feel it’s a good accompaniement to the prompt 🙂
Good to see you….and yes, tea coming up too!
Thanks for the welcome, andYUM on the mousse, appreciate you making Julia’s special recipe just this once. Cheers!
Hi Lill! Happy Tuesday! Thanks for hosting.🤗
Nice to see you, Melissa! Looking forward to a noncaloric poem from you! 🙂
Great Prompt Lillian – luckily I don’t have a sweet tooth – my nemesis is crisps!😃
Ah, I can take or leave crisps….but leave candy or yummy cookies anywhere I can see them…..they’ll be gone in a jiff! So glad you enjoyed the prompt!
Hi Lill, thank you for hosting with your sweet list. I love chocolate, but I’m picky, and those candies don’t tempt me. Now, your chocolate mousse would. 😋
I hope my poem doesn’t spoil the mood.
Good to see you here, Merril. I am sadly what many would call a chocaholic and therefore simply don’t keep candy or cookies in the house! YES, you would love Julia Child’s chocolate mousse!
Not to worry about spoliing the mood….my second poem is straight out of the noir genre and sadly, came about if I’m honest, because of all the Jeffry Epstein news related to #47. It is sadly, and devastatingly, a reality in this country.
It is. We’re in a very dark time–not that the evil didn’t always exist, but now it’s been given permission to live out in the open.
thanks for a fun prompt lillain.
time for a sweet snack before bath
catch up with reading befor work in the morning

SOOOO good to see you here!
Thank you
This is sweet!!! Thanks so much for hosting, Lill.
Always enjoy tending the pub! Nice to see you here today.
I must be psychic. I wrote this poem very recently. It includes the Babe Ruth candy bar (not on your list, but I cheat as usual).
Do you have it behind the bar?
I do have it behind the bar. Happy to see you here….I do hope you added at least one candy bar from the list I provided, which is the prompt. Going over to read them now!
Okay folks….I’m heading off to dinner and will return tomorrow AM with a cup of strong coffee in my hand….and maybe a chocolate bar to dip in it! BUT, not to worry, as always, I’ve left the key to the pub under the flower pot to the right of the door. Come on in and help yourself to libations….chocolate mousse is in the fridge and small bowls are on the bar (it’s very rich!). No tips necessary, all I ask is that you leave a poem at Mr. Linky and replace the key under the pot as you leave. See you in the AM! SWEET dreams, all!
What a fun prompt Lillian! ☺️ I too have a sweet tooth and love chocolate.
So glad you like the prompt! Always happy to provide a little noncaloric fun to folks!
When you get to my post, you will know for certain ~ I have no shame! Thanks for a challenge that sent me way way out of the box. (Blame it on Sanaa.)
Am back to my reading…..Looking forward to reading your post, Helen. dVerse is the spot to shed one’s shame! 🙂
Ah, chocolate, sigh. Now I must have some, lol. A tempting prompt Lillian.
Good to see you hear, Paul…..my chocolate mousses (a la Julia Childs’ recipe) draws even the most calorie conscious of folks to indulge! 🙂
Hello, Lillian, thanks for hosting, I enjoyed writing for your sweet prompt!
Always happy to provide a little noncaloric sweet delicacy for my dVerse friends!
Will be dropping in and out to read. SO VERY HAPPY SO MANY HAVE POSTED TO THE PROMPT! KEEP ‘EM COMING! I’M RAZZLED BY THEM!
New poem up. Accidentally added the old poem back. Please delete.
Done! Loved the new one – clever writing!
Hi Lillian, a great prompt. The URL is to long for Mr Linky so I’m putting my link here: https://roberta-writes.com/2025/07/25/roberta-writes-dverse-who-has-a-sweet-tooth-esther-chiltons-writing-challenge-and-thursday-doors-bruxelles-chocolate-tour-poetry-photography/ Have a great weekend.
