I’m reading “Inkheart” by Cornelia Funke at the moment – a children’s book actually – but it’s spins its magical threads so nicely that I think it’s a good read for adults as well.
By the way – I admit – I love children’s books…
However – in that book there’s a bookbinder – and he really loves books
He used to read aloud to his wife until one day, something strange happened… in short… three characters from the book suddenly stood in his living room while his wife and his two cats were gone… most probably into the book and no matter how much he tried, he couldn’t read them back… neither this nor that way…. and that’s how the adventure started….
That birthed the idea for today’s MTB… in the pre-christmas magic time we’re in…write a poem where…
- something or someone that/who is not real suddenly comes alive
- a character from a book shows up in your poem
- someone suddenly disappears and finds themselves in a whole new place….
.
Are you in for a little magical poetry..?

I can join you.. at the moment I am reading Bleak house.. it takes some time … maybe children’s books are better in some way..
claudia said:
what is the story? bleak house seems to be a haunting name…
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Bleak House is one of Charles Dickens’ novels.. many consider it one of his best. You should read the first 2 pages if nothing else.. it’s pure poetry.. The story is as usual with Dickens quite complicated with many characters.

very cool… will def. check it out…

I am always looking for an excuse to write about Zorba, & you gave me the perfect segue, as I embellished on some dialogue from the Kazantsakis book, the movie, & my imagination. Wow, real transporting to a place I have never been, except in a book or movie. It also gave me a chance to record more of the Zorba character & let my old Actor out of the bag.
claudia said:
smiles… your actor self always seems to be present in your poems…

bedtime for me over here… will try not to lose myself into a book overnite and see you tomorrow morning… smiles

Well, I just think that there must be more of a scoop on that Snow White too! Here Doc is sick in the hospital, and there SHE is hanging around in some bar. Hmmmmm, I wonder who SHE was meeting there! Ha, there is so much below the surface of those old tales. If children ONLY knew……….

I loved reading my kids books that had magic aloud. There is something special about it. My favorite was “The Blue Sword”
The girls would snuggle up on either side of me and we would go where only the mind sees. I think that’s what builds magic’s delight – in our mind’s eye we visualize it just right ( for us )
claudia said:
loved reading to my kids as well… need to check out the blue sword… smiles

I’m LOL to the max, it’s like dVerse Pub is hosting Fairy Tale Theater; what absolute nutty fun indeed! I almost wrote one about the elder Harry Potter & friends; great minds, similar ruts, right? Although it might make an interesting prompt to start the chain of poetics with certain fairy tales, books, or movies, & have the lot of us writing adjuncts to it; just saying.
