When I saw what Sheila Moore and Kellie Elmore proffered for Saturday’s Poetics prompt, Taboo Subjects, I knew it would catch some people (like me) by surprise. But I knew it also might convince some poets to break out of their self-imposed strictures and dive into the deep end of their creative pools.
Why? Because they would know there are other poets going through the same doubts and hurdles. And that there would be poets who would be there providing the support they needed to break through.
That’s what what we do here at dVerse every Tuesday and Wednesday. We (all of “we” poets, not just the staff of dVerse) offer the support to poets around the world to share their creations with confidence and a spirit of collegiality.
Here’s how we can do it:
- Post a poem to your blog,
- Link your poem to dVerse (1 per blog, please) by clicking on the Mr.Linky button below.
- This opens a new screen where you’ll enter your information, and where you also choose links to read. Once you have pasted your poem’s blog url and entered your name, click Submit.
- Don’t forget to let your readers know where you’re linking up and encourage them to participate by including a link to dVerse in your blog post. (Something I too often forget to do, so this is a reminder for me, too.)
- Visit as many other poems as you like, commenting as you see fit.
- Spread the word on the poems you enjoy if you’d like. Feel free to tweet and share on the social media of your choice.
- Enjoy being part of this community.

Thanks for dropping by, Dulce! Now, what can I get someone with such a sweet name?
I was kicking around two different perspectives on the concept of ‘silence’…
Wow. 1 minute past opening-time and I’m 25th! Is this pub getting popular or what? Thanks for serving us, Joe. Victoria
You’re welcome, Victoria. Hey, I’m supposed to be opening the bar and I find Brian and an under-age poet sitting there waiting for me!
That Anthony! 😀
haha you have to watch anthony…smiles.
Yes, I have come to love this Tuesday link-up, look forward to it each week. Here I go…

Cool, Z. Sometimes we try an IPA instead of a Guinness.
Either one, eventually I see stars.

d’Verse is a deep, deep pool, Joe — riches galore down league after league of links. Here’s to another fun dive! – Brendan
Sure is, Brendan. Always glad to see you dive in.
Wow! Pub filling up very fast! David, I also was very struck by Kellie and Sheila’s prompt and spent a lot of time berating myself for my choices. (I do think poetry lends itself to the taboo.) I have something planned tonight so won’t be able to look much till tomorrow, but am looking forward to it.
Glad to be sidling up with my friend Joe and all the others at the Pub. I look forward to some great reading…
Thanks, Steve! You buying? 😉
i click in almost immediately after the post mail comes.. yet i find 24 ahead of me always! sigh.. happy OLN to all! lookin fwd to browsing a lot of u asap! 🙂
LOL!
Leo, I’m allegedly in charge here tonight and I was even #11. — j
Afternoon Joe! Thanks for hosting Open Link Night although for me it’s Open Link Lunch. I’ll come back to see what you talented people wrote this week after a glass of wine alfresco.
… a race to the finish line here… love the energy!
Hey, Joe 🙂 Thanks so much for hosting this OpenLinkNight. I agree that the Taboo topic certainly freed a lot of self-imposed restrictions. We are a daring bunch of poets now, aren’t we?
haha…oneheluva brave bunch of poets…or at least..working on it…smiles
good to see you beth
Hi, Beth! Have you gotten those zebra stripes squared away?
You don’t know what you can do until you try.
See you around! — J
*smiling* The zebra stripes are still taunting me only they are leading toward a neighbor of a different species. That is all the hint you get.
Sorry everyone. I just now arrived home from work and have only an hour before I sleep before getting up at 3 for work again. I will catch up on reading tomorrow.
smiles….thanks for the hint beth…sleep well…get some rest…see you tomorrow….
Ok, Joe, let’s do our stuff. Cheers!
Let’s do, Jackie. See you around!
🙂
Thanks for the welcome Joe! I know Poetics pulled something out of me I never dreamed I’d share….and I wasn’t the only one! Today was a fast write for me, as I came up to 4 (my time) and had hardly an idea…but my tweeps came thru! Yay! Thanks to Steve Shultz for prompting this one. You can find him tweeting as @FracturedPhrase (just incase you’re not already cyberstalking him!) and Brian…it’s all about the bacon! Here’s to another #poetic evening ahead!
🙂 I could always use more cyberstalkers.
mmm…bacon!

Hi everyone! Here on “first love”. Let me know what you think.

Eh Joe, where you goin’ with that poem in your hand?
Gotta read it to a Foxy Lady, Mark.
I agree with your comment on “Contrition,” by the way. I saw it as a short story, too. And it will be.
Thanks. — J
Tea and Poetry go together like Lao Tzu and Rumi.

i thought for a second there we were about to get political…smiles
“…sometimes I like to go where everybody knows your name….”
How wonderful a gift you all are to me…
Cheers! and thanks for hosting Joe! =)

If I am, then you help keep me aloft, Louise. True.
I hope everyone visits “Traces.” Brilliant work!
J
Not much time these days but I will do my best to read what I can.
Glad you can stop by. We’re always open, it would appear.
Busy day, but I’m stopping to pick up a cold one (actually, I’m heavy on the mocha fraps) and sample the poetic wares. Thanks for tending bar tonight, Joe–the place is packed already.
From the looks of things out there, Joy, we’ve got a drink for every type of taste.
And enough of them for every size thirst!
I always feel a bit better behind the bar when you’re around.
J
TGIT- Thank God it’s Tuesday. Cheers to everyone.
cheers fred – great to see you…and hear your voice…smiles
Happy OLN everyone,
Spent some time in the great outdoors taking pictures and wrote a poem about my thoughts at the time.
Have a great night everyone! 🙂
One of my favorite things to do, Gwen. Except today, the pictures are exposed on the inside of my eyelids.
Looking forward to seeing you. — J
I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to participate in a long, long time. 😦 Sorry about that but today, I finally got a moment so I posted something! Yay!
yay – great to see you karen…jumping over to read
That’s great, Karen!
Real life can always overcome what Brian like to call Pub Life. Boy do I understand THAT.
It’s good to see you here.
J
Hi everyone – will be in and out as usual. Love the great stuff I’ve read up to now. Have a great couple of days…the works are outstanding as usual, thanks to Joe for tending the bar, and everyone have a round of Guiness or your fave on me. Back to reading before supper. Enjoy!
gay…your piece was truly heartfelt..touched me deeply
Thank you Claudia – quite a shift from my Poetics one, huh? (smiles) Well you never know what the muse settles on you! Thanks again. I always enjoy your work and will never figure out how you do it! And not even have English as first language – that blows me away!
Spectacular to see you here, Gay. Sometimes I forget some of the drink recipes and I need someone with your vast knowledge to serve this many and varied tastes.
🙂

Scotch and Waterfire, please, Joe! ( ;0= }
Coming up, Charles! Good to see you!

See you around!
J
Can’t wait to get done with errands and enjoy a glass of wine and some good poetry!
There’s already a crowd. 🙂 Looking forward to some great finds, as usual.
It is party time here at dVerse and true we can get and give support and join in the camaraderie of the third kind.
I am not a poet, never was, and so even though I can’t crank out poems just because I want to, I hope by reading poetry I could nourish my muse.
you are a poet….
Sharing one from earlier this month – you guys are awesome!

Hey, Joe! Always nice to see you hosting. Loved your poem, and I’m so enjoying reading through the wonderful pieces tonight. I’m just too slow! Settling in for some more reading now. Thunder is rolling, so I’ll be enjoying poetry with the rain. Pretty wonderful evening, I’d say 🙂
Hi, Lori!
Thanks for stopping in. Always wonderful to see you here and “home.”
And I don’t think anyone is as slow as I am in making the rounds. I’ll always feel like a rookie. That’s why it’s so great to have all these nice folks to make us feel welcome.
See you later!

Hi All
Its good to be back here though I wanted to some time back but then I was too busy hosting Poetry Picnic, I knew I would not be able to do justice to this group, hence I kept away for sometime… now that I have taken leave from the same, I am back here… with some of the great friends that i have had made in this community and enjoyed reading versatile talent that this open link showcase here…
@ Joseph, I had decided to link this poetry “Wet and Sandy Beach” on the Poetics Taboo topic but could not do within time as I had to write about something which I have not had written before …. that is about making love… 😉 and I am so happy that you had decided to use the same theme for the Open Link Night.
Look forward to reading the poets this weekend and getting your feedback on my poetry…
Cheers!!!

Thanks for hosting this wonderful place for poets! I love to tell others about it. I always participate in my mind when the e-mails come but I’m not always able to get something sufficient together on my blog. I will try to participate, read & comment as much as possible. So much talent there is to be captivated by! Thank you.
Happy Thursday….
curiosity leads me here reading some refreshing poetry,
quite surprised and impressed, there are many amazing talents here.
enjoyed plowing through the collection and again, appreciate your platform for all to share and encourage.
keep up the excellence.

I just want you guys to know that life has interrupted the flow of poetic goodness.. my son went into hospital and has just come out (he had to go for minor surgery) and now he needs to be taken care of. So I’m emotionally drained and have no energy to write, and have been so busy that I have only today been able to check out Openlink Night, and I pray that you guys continue to pour out your poetic goodness… and know that I’m still here, even though I have been ‘away’ for a couple weeks.
