Welcome to OpenLinkNight, the time when we spill poetry all over the place, when we cook up verse until the place bogs in steam and heaps of letters lie scattered all across the wooden floor, where we can’t walk without stumbling over Couplets, Sestinas, Villanelles and Free Verse, Rap and Shakespearean Sonnets and our cheeks glow like lighthouse fires in a stormy night…
And there’s something else that makes my cheeks glow at the moment, it’s when I take the time and read through the Shorty Awards nominations…and the reasons why you vote for us…really…makes my heart beat faster and conjures a smile onto my face… big thanks to all of you who voted for us already and brought us to Rank 6 in the category #art so far..
But…what the heck is this Shorty Award really about..?
In short: it is the Oscar of the Social Media World
- Everyone who has a twitter account can vote for anyone in any available category.
- The nomination period is January 3, 2012 through February 17, 2012 and culminates in a New York City awards ceremony this spring.
- When the voting closes, the six people or organizations that receive the most tweeted votes will be 2012 Shorty Awards finalists and a Jury will review their work and decides the winners.
- This means, if you are on twitter and like what we’re doing here, you can vote for us HERE or by pressing the button we added to the Sidebar, tell your friends, your football team, your knitting circle and your grandma and make sure to vote in the category #art and oh, don’t forget to add a reason why you vote for us..votes without reason won’t be counted..
- If you need more information, you can find it HERE
But now, back to what keeps us fueled, to what is on our heart and what the pub needs…and this is your Poetry… have fun, read others, comment on their work, dive head on in the poetic pleasure pool, and if you need a drink, just give me a shout, I’ll be right behind the bar… *Clink*
If you’re here for the first time..warm welcome and here’s how it works..
- Post a poem to your blog,
- Link your poem to dVerse (1 per blog, please) by clicking on the Mr.Linky button below.
- This opens a new screen where you’ll enter your information, and where you also choose links to read. Once you have pasted your poem’s blog url and entered your name, click Submit. Don’t worry if you don’t see your name right away.
- Don’t forget to let your readers know where you’re linking up and encourage them to participate by including a link to dVerse in your blog post.
- Visit as many other poems/poets as you like or can, letting others know what you think about their poem or how it moved you. You may learn something that helps you progress or even make a new friend.
- Spread the word on the poems you enjoy if you’d like. Feel free to tweet and share on the social media of your choice.

Down with a fracture of the ankle and this is my FIRST fracture in my long life!
Boy, it hurts, but I have plenty of time to read other poets this week. LOL!
Let the verse rollllllllll!
Lady Nyo
Ouch! Hope the poetry will be a good pain medication, Jane.
uuuhhhh… painful…hope it will heal quickly… i think reading poetry helps to speed up the healing process…smiles
I really appreciate the pub’s frequenters.
Made it to the bar at last 🙂
Happy oln!
Thanks for hosting Claudia. Happy to be here and will vote for you for the Shorty award too. 🙂
Claudia your introduction is a poem in itself–thanks for hosting tonight. I’ve put up a little exercise in metaphor that came to me when I was a bit feverish last week–hope it won’t seem too morbid for such a festive evening of poetry-slinging and word wining and dining. Off to run errands but will be back to read and enjoy later.
I didn’t trip on any of those forms on the floor, but I got one of those complimentary bar food ghazals caught in my throat.
Rock on, C.! I’ll see you around the world tonight.
Oops… excuse me. I think I stumbled over a quatern and fell into someone’s sestina! haha…
Thank you for tending bar tonight, Claudia. I am still at work, linking through an unreliable dongle but can’t resist being part of OLN. A cup of coffee would be wonderful for now to keep me awake late into the night reading the incredible poetry that I can always find here. Oh, put my drink on Brian’s tab. He’ll never notice. 😉
Have fun tonight and watch where you step. You wouldn’t want to ruin a perfect rhyme.
haha..i won’t tell him… and your coffee will be ready in a second…smiles
Here is my contribution for the open link. Good luck with the shorty award!
Pamela
Always love it when you host, Claudia! Here’s to you poet lady….Cheers!
cheers jackie!!
Tweet rhymes with meet and sweet! I’m under the influence of the full moon today.
I’ve contributed! I am so excited to check out all you other lovely poets!

So excited to be back after a couple of weeks away. It’s weird, I was having a pity party and decided to never write another poem… an hour later I had my entry for this week. Oh well. I hope you like it. 🙂
The world would be worse off without your words Becky! Don’t even joke of such a thing…wrangle that muse and write!
smiles..from the pity party straight to the poetry party…think you took the right turn…smiles
hello, poets! Hope you have a wonderful evening!
Thanks so much for hosting, Claudia! Oops, I’ve linked twice…last weeks poem?! Apologies! Oh, and I’ve voted…I think you guys are great 🙂

Got home late from work after a cancelled train (and a god send of a lift from a friend) but poetry is a perfect cure for what ails me.
And a thousand thank you’s to Claudia for hosting.
I’ve been late for everything in the last week. Glad I made Open Link Night. I’ll be back tomorrow to read.
In the interest of actually keeping my job and getting some work done, i will have to recycle one form Sunday. Hoping to be around for reading later though.
oh we take recycled poems as well..smiles
Nice to be here again. It’s an honor.
it’s an honor having you in the pub myrna
Not been here in ages, linked up an oldie.
Back again. Thanks for hosting Claudia. Been struggling with creativity recently but, as Brian said last week, there’s a poem in everything. In fact, there’s more than one poem in everything as my friend Cat and I discovered today.
smiles…that is the spirit…
So pleased to be joining you all at the pub. I look forward to some fine reading…Claudia, please leave the bottle.
This is my first post to dVerse Poets Pub’s Open Link Night. I’ve been posting poems on a couple of other sites for several months, and I see some familiar names here, but see a lot I don’t recognize, too. I appreciate the opportunity to display my poetry, and I hope you find it enjoyable.

good morning everyone…catching up on the over nights…
Hi everyone…It’s my first time here, hoping to catch more than a glimpse as I read so many of your poems. The world of words, right at my finger tips, images, dreams, my vision swimming…Thank you!
Still reeling from reading the 143 poets who are attending this latest dVerse wing-ding, so I kind of forgot that this comment column is cool too, integral to the mix, part of the experience. Get so busy tweeting, writing, blogging, weeping, smiling, trimming my beard, chronicling my world digitally, kissing my younger wife, and chasing my cat that I spin my slicks in one spot, burning rubber with the blue smoke covering the cars and pedestrians behind me, and it takes focus and finesse to hit second gear without blowing my tranny.
actually it is 8:51 PST here in the north woods, so when Claudia logs on at midnight, which is morning for her over there, we need to endeavor to grasp the international
parameters of this global communiqué.
ha…i thought it smells of burned rubber… but thought it comes from the hot poetry we had in the pub this week…smiles
Claudia, I loved your intro. I’ve been sneaking peeks at this site for a while, and chickened out every time. Until today. Thanks- I am off to read loads and loads of words!
woohooo!!!! welcome mary – honored to having you here..
Glad you finally jumped in, Mary! Welcome. 🙂
Wow, it seems like an extra large group tonight…I may be the last one linking in this week… Happy to be here…thank you, Claudia!
Totally dropped the ball on this yesterday… ah well. Added one I wrote today.
just now able to catch up on the last 8 or so….good evening everyone
good morning…cup of coffee…bowl of oat flakes…and a key in hand to close the pub doors…smiles…. see you in a few hours for FormForAll with the always marvelous Gay.. already had a sneak peak at her post and i’m sure you will love it..
oh sigh – is it really possible to be so late you cannot post to dVerse? I futzed around so long on my site that by the time I got back here, I got a message that Mr. Linky had expired some minutes ago … egad. Oh well – maybe next week then …
I meant to have a big night last night but the computer got caught in a log jam, so hopefully tonight I’ll get it good.
Also, a thousand thank you’s to everyone who visited it my blog. Really appreciate it.
