Hello everyone, Anthony Desmond here and I have the pleasure of tending our pre-holiday OLN! Woot! We’re a week into summer solstice – how’s everyone enjoying it so far?
It’s an extra special time of year because unlike the others, summer feels like a fresh start. After we endure the cold shoulder of winter, and clean out all the old baggage in the spring… Then comes the season that’s all about kindling new flames to enjoy well into autumn; and/or letting the smoke of those we already have linger, like incense that echo the essence of ourselves.
I wish you all a happy summer; breathe deeply and make plenty of great memories. See you all for the 3 year celebration after the break…
Here’s how we get down, AKA the rules:
- Write a poem and post it to your website.
- Click on the Mr. Linky button below and enter your name and direct url or web address to the poem.
- There you will find others that have joined in—stop in, visit with them, let them know what you liked about their poem.
- If you use social media to promote yourself, tag it @dversepoets so we can find you and help you promote.
hoping you embrace that freshness of summer….that first day of really scorching sun i love to go out and stand in it…feel it kiss my skin…makes me feel so alive after winter….
happy OLN everyone!
right on.
Pub is open!! I’ll be making my rounds later on; have a few things to do today. Happy OLN!
happy oln anthony…thanks for tending…
Woot! Loving summer so far, looking forward to seeing everyone’s words! Happy Open Link Night to all!
Hi Kelly… smiles; me too
happy oln!!
we had a wonderful summer so far… 37 C … scorching hot with mild nights…at the moment a thunder storm is raging… has its own spell as well…smiles
we will probably get one later….most evenings seem to start with one…after the pressure builds all day…
It’s summer.. and for me that means Wimbledon.. strawberries, cream and rain stops play! 😉 My poem is not about that, but is poised on the brink of summer, looking back and just a hint of looking ahead..
Look forward to reading you all and just great to be back after a pretty dry spell in the poetry garden.
welcome back becky…
strawberries….yum….we made shortcake last week…
ooh how very yummy… mouth-watering now!
woot – becky’s in the house
great to see you becky!!!
Summer is here and adventure awaits!
Looking forward to the inspired creativity we all flow into our writing from summer’s ebb.
ha – a little adventure here and there is not bad at all
Surprised to see the pub open so early…. ??? Any reason?
my fault…when anthony asked i was stuck on when we thought it might be a good idea to open early…and not the conversation after when we decided it was better to keep a consistent time…
Yup, I agree it is good to keep a consistent time. For many reasons. We are creatures of habit, and that isn’t bad.
Greetings Anthony & All, Sorry to be late on parade with my new poem today – but being in the UK in early summer, we’re all currently somewhat distracted by the footie World Cup, of course and glorious Wimbledon – but will be back later for sure for a good read up, when all the sporting excitement for the day has subsided… Hey! Ho! Could be a late night….
smiles… we’re watching as well… brazil versus chile…
Thanks for hosting, Anthony!
happy saturday sir!
Looks like every one is ready for summer..very warm welcome to new beginning and what a joy it will be when pub opens for third anniversary celebrations..happy weekend to all …cheers to all the football teams…we see winner in every one…smiles..
Claudio…we are watching the match too….smiles..
smiles…we will be back in two weeks…& it will for sure….
Enjoy the poems 🙂
you as well….
Happy summer and a big thank you to the hard working staff of dVerse. Three years! And three wonderful ones! Looking forward to the fourth!
Thanks for the tending the bar Anthony ~ I forgot we were opening earlier than usual for OLN ~ Anyway, I’m back after a lovely lunch of grilled korean ribs and kimchi ~ Wishing you a lovely summer weekend ~
wow. lunch sounds wonderful…smiles…
it was ~ hubby has been grilling every weekend since summer here is very short ~
My goodness; thanks Brian for linking me up early; always a nice surprise as I check in at 11:30 PST. Wow, things buzzing steamy, sticky, hot, & intense, a real Summer happening it seems. How long will the break be? Is is just OLN, or is dVerse completely shut down as well? Seems like that did happen last year, right?
Odd how much the Pub becomes a regular part of our life, like hanging out at CHEERS where everybody knows your name.
hey glenn… we’ll have a two week break and back on july 14 for our 3 year anniversary…
Hello everybody… Today at a dinner with friends. I have joined with a collaborative poem. Summer here is quite cold – but vacation is here… Wonderful and inspirational. I will, make my rounds a little bit later.
nice – enjoy the dinner… and the collab poem is cool
Thank you Brian, Claudia, Anthony and all of the poets who make up dVerse! Looking forward to the celebrations which will start your 4th year!
(Looking forward to lunch with Grace someday, too.)
Hi Susan ~ One of these days, who knows, smiles ~ See you around in the blogger world ~
Got to have a dream ….
oh wow – you’re going to meet for lunch? that sounds wonderful
would love to join..
Now wouldn’t that be great!?
ha after what she said she is having for lunch, i would def want lunch too…smiles….nah, i would want it for more reasons than that…
Caught me, Brian. And, yes, many more reasons.
Thanks, Claudia–that’s what I get for not checking the Pub last Monday, when the announcement was made. Hard to believe some of us have been hanging about the Pub for several years now, stimulating us to write 8-10 poems a month for most of that time. So everybody just dig the hell out of your Summer break; it is well earned & deserved–so OLN will be back up on the last Saturday in July, 7/26, so Rod Buck can begin saddling up again; cool. I am starting rehearsals for a new play next week, my Film Club is on hiatus, I will now not miss deadlines for my horror review gig–so wow, & double Wow.
hope rehearsals go well for you glenn…enjoy the break yourself…
and while we will be on break, many of us will still be writing
so if you are around drop in…smiles.
Hope everyone has a wonderful summer.
Thanks to you, Anthony, and all the hosts who take the time to receive our writing at Dverse. May you all have a happy break.
myrna!
great seeing you
and what a beautiful personal piece you brought to the table..
Okay; I am back for a bit; now playing ketchup… haha…

How about onion rings?
I love food, so I’ll take all of the above! thank ya.
mmmmm onion rings may be the best!

Thanks for hosting, Anthony. I wish we did have some of the rain that I wrote about. The drought here is a bit scary. But summer is always wonderful. I will be a bit late reading–we had a minor flood under the sink and I’m off to clean it up while the husband has gone to get a new disposal. Ah, the joys of home ownership!
lol – thanks for joining… had a clog in my sink not too long ago; mom and I had to work together on that one… smiles… And summer rain is always lovely, esp cause there’s usually a rainbow not too far off
yikes v…hope it did not do too much damage….
Thank you for hosting tonight, Anthony. I’ll be along tomorrow to read and comment – it’s been a loooong day here in the UK. I hope it’s not too rowdy this evening!
Late here in Sweden too.. Need to postpone reading till tomorrow
Hey Anthony!!!
I wrote the poem I’m posting for the article on colors but didn’t get it up in time. See ya”ll on the trail….afterwhile.
Going for now everyone… will be hittin’ ya’ll up later tonite and/or tomorrow
I just started to follow dVerse the other day. I read the information about these different challenges but I did not find how long do we have to post for OpenLInkNight? Thank you, Deborah
you have 33 hours deborah…about 25 hours left of OLN…to give you a point of reference…
Anthony, Thanks for tending bar! I finally remembered an Open Link Night on it’s new day of the week. I haven’t been writing much new lately so I decided to find an old poem that deals with freedom to commemorate the upcoming 4th of July Holiday here in the U.S. I have a few free moments so I think I’ll go check out some other poetry. Peace, Linda
cool…remember that piece from the turn of the new year….enjoy your visiting.
alright — g’night poets
be back in the AM…
Happy summer everyone, and thanks!
Thanks for hosting and I hope everyone has a great summer..
i hope you do as well…smiles.
you too!
Leaving in a few hours for fun at the beach with four grandsons and their fam. Will see you all after summer break. Have a great one and thanks for all the wonderful prompts here.
have a great time at the beach…
Thanks Anthony for hosting the bar. A wonderful round up of talent is definitely showing up!
thanks for being out there reading as well..
not always easy at OLN because of the open structure…
over half will just link and not read
which is why we cut it back to once a month.
In the southern hemisphere it is Winter. In southern Australia the log fires are blazing, the frost is frosting, the rain is raining, the skies are blustery although often the sky is brightening blue and the sun is shining. And in northern Australia and southern Africa it is the dry season – which is Winter where it does not rain much, the sky stays blue, the sun shines but it is chilly. Here in Malawi we have chilly nights which get down to around 5C and days from 18C-25C. But generally the sky is blue and the sun shines.
that sounds lovely… happy sunday!!
just back from visiting a friend all afternoon and catching up…
good afternoon C! had a late night so I’m waking up late… smiles.
haha you realize it is 4 in the afternoon anthony….
smiles…i remember those days….
lol yes yes; I’m a nightowl what can I say…
Hi, Anthony. Sorry I’m late. Just checking in to wish you a great summer and break time. Expecting to be back to full-time poet guy come end of August.
Hi, Joe!! Doesn’t matter if you’re late, man; I’m glad you stopped by! Have a great summer and happy you’ll be back to full-time poet soon!
I missed posting to this month’s OLN, but looking forward to when the pup re-opens. To all the wonderful hosts…have a splendid summer break, and see you mid-July!
