Instagram isn’t just selfies and pictures of food, it’s also one of the biggest and most supportive communities for poets. If anyone thinks poetry is on life support, joining IG will quickly open your eyes to the millions of people who look forward to double-tapping poems on the daily.
There are many active writing challenges that poets get “tagged” in on Instagram, so I would like to bring that here and tag all of you for the most popular one – the #2am challenge.
Many of us connect with the night, so this shouldn’t be too hard, right?
There’s no specific topic, you just need to incorporate 2am into your poem.
The Rules:
Write a poem that fits the prompt on your blog/webpage
Click the Mr. Linky button below and enter your name & direct url to your poem
There you will find other poets’ work for today’s prompt – engage with
one another and have a good time learning from each other
Feel free to share using the social media of your choice
Hey everyone… pub is open. Any of you on Instagram?
For sure I am on instagram… but I have not written poetry there or posted pics in a long while.. my identity is brudberg as usual 🙂
I had not seen the poetry challenge though.
It’s kinda recent… plus there are other challenges that would be good for poetics as well… hmm. lol
Very open prompt. I have a dozen or so #2AM poems that I have written. Only one for you today. #2AM for me is when the veil draws thin – and even 3 AM, but it is also a very sensual time as well.
Not on Instagram or any other social media for that matter, other than the blog. Just by choice.
I try to keep mine as open as possible 🙂 and that’s great that you have many… feel free to link two of em if you want… smiles
I wrote one already during the weekend.. for me 2AM is the time when the nightmares come alive…
I may drop another tomorrow – we’ll see how the reading goes today.
I have a funeral to attend tomorrow as well, and have a poem in relation to that which I plan to post tomorrow.
We will see though – life has a way
I may have another from long ago….this is a super prompt and so many ways to respond to it. I don’t do social media – like a bluebird, I don’t want too many things flapping about my space! I’m off to fry chicken for supper now. I’ll visit back and maybe post that other poem.
Hi Anthony, I don’t have a clue how Instagram works! Perhaps you could give a little summation here for us! I have always associated Instagram with the sharing of photos.
You have some space for text.. and when I moved from twitter into blogging I noticed that many poets used instagram.. no 140 character limitations.. You can also put the text in the image.. 🙂
Is there privacy there? Can you control who sees your stuff?
You can set your profile to private, but no one will see when you share with hashtags… and people usually won’t follow poets unless they see what you write 1st. It’s best to create a page for poetry and one for personal things if privacy is an issue
Yes.. you can set up your profile very private (there are many kids there)
For poetry, the best thing to do is download a text to pic app, and share the poem with hashtags like here… Instagram seriously has the best response to poetry out of all the other social medias, I would say… Once you get a feel for it yourself everything is really easy.
instagram, twitter, facebook, kik – such a complicated world.
Complicated yet so easy…
Not much of a learning curve to any of those tho. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll realize they’re easy 🙂
it’s the time – and the energy to grasp the new… 🙂
Kanzen,
I do not have twitter, wordpress or facebook – which seems to be required to leave a comment at your place.
I do like the late night early morning front porch sitting. It is peaceful. And the world around us so much more alive when all the human traffic is asleep. And mmmm, honeysuckle. Grew up with plenty of it around my parents home. A smell, and taste, I am very familiar with.
Off to the viewing at the funeral home. I will return to read more and catch up here in a little bit.
Be safe, X. See you soon.
Bjorn kindly let me know you left a comment or, tried to on my page. I have changed the setting to allow folks accessibility – didn’t even realize about that setting! Thank you for commenting. Many people do not know about the taste :-). Do you bite off the tip of the bloom and gently suck out the nectar? I did as a child and still do. it truly is a wonderful taste and smell.
If you are delicate with it, you can break off the bottom and pull the stem through to get a nice drop of nectar.
That’s true…I have done that to show people that bit of nectar and how to not just suck up like they are working on a super thick shake. It is something people are often amazed at and then they taste…OMGoodness – they are just blown away.
Ha, I used to do that as a child! 🙂
I still do! 🙂
I just realized I will write a very short one… after all at 2AM it’s almost dawn here up in the far north.
And no requirement to visit of course 🙂
I really wanted to do this prompt, but wasn’t sure about joining IG–thank you for the invitation; how long is this one open?
This prompt is open for 36hrs 🙂
Thank you!
Sorry to be a bother, Anthony–but I’m not sure whether to follow your blogspot blog or join IG. Can you advise, please?
You’re not being a bother… we’re here for you all. 🙂 Well, do what you feel – and why not both? smiles.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity–the Pub folk are the best!
Hi again, Anthony–I hope I included almost everything in my post. I’m unable to do the IG, as it appears to be a mobile app thingy/deal, and I’m not that far along in the tech dept (no mobile anythings!). But I managed to follow your blog, I think….will try to get there on occasion. Thanks for all your help today. Again, I really like the nibble of bison in your poem–distinctly original!
Thank you and yes you did! 🙂
I don’t think it’s for me. I have enough to read and write without entering a whole new ball game…
Hahaha. Understood. 🙂
Thanks for the understanding.
yay!!! This is sort of a free for all. I got a poem up for 2am.
hahaha!!! its funny.
I didn’t think I was gonna give this one a shot, but gave it a go nonetheless. “2am” is surely in there, but maybe not how one would expect. These prompts really are very difficult for me.
But on Thursday there is no prompt at all.. just join with any poem you might have 🙂
Hmmm, perhaps should investigate Instagram.
Oh, treading other comments — were we supposed to actually join Instagram? I didn’t …yet. (So many platforms already.) I just wrote a 2 a.m. poem.
Er, READING other comments.
🙂 no, no – I’m not forcing you guys to join Instagram. LOL. I did wanna throw that out there that it’s really supportive to poets. I didn’t know until a few months ago or else I would’ve joined a lot sooner.
Great prompt Anthony.. the night is always an interesting prompt.. for me to write about.. both friend and foe in the past.. and only friend now.. thank goodness.. when 2AM before.. is only a cold place of hell to be.. for me.. but ah.. nah.. not now.. where all is light i see..:)
Light is hard to see without darkness…
Really superb prompt – pity about Instagram
Thanks! and why say pity?
Just kind of tongue-in-cheek!´´
I have only just started on Instagram and am just trying to get my followers going. I had no idea there was a poetry community on there. I will have to check that out. You can find me there at Instagram.com/vanessamatthewswriter Thanks for the tip and chance to share my poem 🙂
This prompt speaks to me–the 2 AM insomniac who, thankfully, is not yet a widow. I often crawl out of bed for some tea and a book so it was easy to add a dollop of imagination to this. Thank you, Anthony–you’re a great host. Now you can get me a Long Island Iced Tea and that will finish me off for the rest of the day. Back in a while to sip poetry.
Comin right up… smiles
I am glad #2am inspired so many poets, Anthony!
Thanks 🙂 I am too
Just home.. and curios what more the prompt brought 🙂
As an insomniac, this one definitely spoke to me. I think I really need to check out Instagram.
Be back before 2 to read. 😀
Anthony, Your prompt gave me a good idea – but I couldn’t complete it until now. Hope you like it.
It’s good to know all this about instagram, will check it out.
