Hi everyone! Welcome to our OpenLinkNight ! This is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. If you missed any of lovely prompts last week, Poetics: Chisel me a Conservation, or Meter-Made Form, or just this Tuesday’s Poetics: Summer Starter, this is your opportunity to share them.
Here’s a summer poem:
The rose-tints have faded from out of the West,
From the Mountain’s high peak, from the river’s broad breast.
And, silently shadowing valley and rill,
The twilight steals noiselessly over the hill.
Behold, in the blue depths of ether afar,
Now softly emerging each glittering star;
While, later, the moon, placid, solemn and bright,
Floods earth with her tremulous, silvery light.
Hush! list to the Whip-poor-will’s soft plaintive notes,
As up from the valley the lonely sound floats,
Inhale the sweet breath of yon shadowy wood
And the wild flowers blooming in hushed solitude.
Start not at the whispering, ’tis but the breeze,
Low rustling, ’mid maple and lonely pine trees,
Or willows and alders that fringe the dark tide
Where canoes of the red men oft silently glide.
See, rising from out of that copse, dark and damp,
The fire-flies, each bearing a flickering lamp!
Like meteors, gleaming and streaming, they pass
O’er hillside and meadow, and dew-laden grass,
Contrasting with ripple on river and stream,
Alternately playing in shadow and beam,
Till fullness of beauty fills hearing and sight
Throughout the still hours of a calm summer’s night.
If you are new, here’s how to join:
See you at the poetry trail.
Welcome to OpenLinkNight everyone!!!! Happy summer day!!!!
Happy Thursday!!!
Happy Summer to you too, Grace 😀
You too Sanaa 🙂
What Sanaa said! 😀
Good evening… Tomorrow we celebrate midsummer – so today it’s like a Friday.. I will get around to read in a while.
Today feels like….Thursday at work, smiles! I will be around to read in a bit.
Feels like the fourth Monday this week! Yuk!
Tomorrow we’ll sit in a garden sipping wine….
Sounds lovely, Bjorn!
Happy Thursday to you as well! We had a humongous summer storm this morning like we had last Thursday, but didn’t lose power in this area. Although 38000 people in the area do not have power – again. Lots of trash in our yard – torn leaves from trees, small branches – but we are safe in this area.
Good to know you are safe Toni! Here, its been sunny and filled with sunshine, smiles !
All safe is the key here, Toni. Those storms are cool to write, but lousy to experience. Continue to stay safe!
Hello everyone,
Wishing you all a most joyous Summer ahead 😀 sharing my poem “Resilience.” Hope you all like it.
Thank you for hosting OLN tonight, Grace ❤
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Thank you for support and active participation Sanaa!
My pleasure, Grace ❤
What’s not to like, Sanaa? You are talented and express your heart well.Like I said earlier, We’re glad to have your work present here!
Walt, I couldn’t resist picking up on your summer theme. I could write for weeks using it.
Thank you for your kind words Walter 🙂
Folks don’t forget – latecomers to Haibun Monday and Tuesday Poetics! Don’t forget these folk!
Yes, I am checking back to the late comers. Hope all is well with you Toni.
Yes indeed. the storm is past but left grey weather behind. No damage though this time to our place! Just lots and lots of rain and hail!
Summer at last – and we actually had our first really hot day here today! I won’t be posting a poem, I don’t think, but I look forward to visiting today and tomorrow. Perhaps while waiting for the EU Referendum results…
I am excited to read the EU Ref results too. Thanks Marina for dropping by and wishing you a good week/end.
Hi! Good to see you. Really enjoyed your article on Brexit….
Many on this side of the seas will be watching for the results!
Thank you for hosting, Grace!
Thanks for joining us Freya!
The pleasure is all mine!
I’ll join you all later! Have a lovely time.
See you in a bit Toni!
Happy Summer!
Happy summer back to you Bryan!
Hello friends! Summer’s busy on the farm so I don’t often have time to stop and chat but will link today with a haiga. I took the photo on a recent evening walk…no enhancing, the sky really was that gorgeous! May you all enjoy this season 🙂
Such a lovely photo and tanka Lynn 🙂 Such a gorgeous day to be outside 🙂
Thank you, Grace. Yes, good weather today for gardening, mowing…and walking 😀
Thanks for hosting, Grace! I am so far behind in my reading….too much happening and trouble with our internet. I shall post in a bit — and tomorrow’s coffee will be steaming as I read and read and read — late to posts and all of today’s as well. Happy Thursday, all!
I am just hitting up the poetry trail myself Lillian. Boo on the troubles of the internet. Hope you are well. Happy day to you as well.
Happy Summer everyone. Will be back to read and comment.
Happy summer back to you 🙂
A momentous day here on political front plus thunderstorms on weather front. The poem is positively serene whereas mine took a detour through prose until the end. Back later to read tonight’s pub contributions
Thanks for joining us Laura !
Thanks for hosting, Grace! I would to place a warning on my linked poem. Caution: Do not read while eating! 🙂
Okay, will read after dinner. I am stepping out for a bit and will check back 🙂
Sorry to be so late. I had to continue with Walt’s theme of summer, this time using Carl Sandburg. See, Mary Oliver isn’t the only poet I read! Thank you for being our hostess. Lemonade for me, please.
Summer is on my mind too. One cold tall glass of lemonade for you Victoria.
Hope you are well.
Hi, hope everyone is doing great! It’s definitely summertime here…hot! Looking forward to reading your entries! 🙂
Thanks for joining us 🙂
You’re welcome, Grace! I do enjoy dVerse, with the prompts, and the Open Link Nights. 🙂 Hope your Friday, and weekend is just as you want it to be.
I guess I am late, but thought I’d visit the bar. I need a drink from the poetic well 🙂
Not late at all. Thanks for dropping by Truedessa.
Stopping by to link a Villanelle, though not a Summer piece. Will be back around to read tomorrow. Looking forward to it! 🙂
Thanks for dropping by and I will be checking on your poem in a bit.
Good morning all! I have to dash off this morning and then get on with exam paper marking, so I will just post and run. I’ll come back later to read.
Hi Kim! Always good to see you and hope it’s not to hectic on your side of the world.
I can’t believe the Leave campaign won and it looks like Britain will be leaving Europe. It’s thrown a dark shadow on my Friday. And we nearly got flooded last night – thank goodness for sandbags!
I will read tonight, when I have calmed down a bit. Almost too distraught to write anything, let alone poetry.
I am reading the news and I feel distraught as well. So many things changing at once. Thanks for dropping by Viv.
I was going to skip but remembered the pub is closing for a holiday! I wish everyone a wonderful summer break! Come back with a tan. 🙂
We still have next week and then we go for a 2 week break. Hopefully I come back with a tan 🙂
Leo, I couldn’t leave my comment on your tremendous umbrella poem – kept gettig error messages. Here’s what I tried to say: Chapeau for the brilliant was you found to present your poem. I remember praying for the SE monsoon to start, as everybody became jumpy and irritable in the leadup. Though I wasn’t so happy when the machine gun rattle on the tin roof of the church drowned every word of a wedding service I attended.
