Well here we are in a special place
What are you gonna do here?
Now we stand in a special place
What will you do here?
What show of soul are we gonna get from you?
Here we are in a fabulous place
What are you gonna dream here?
We are standing in this fabulous place
What are you gonna play here?
Here we stand on a rocky shore
Your father stood here before you
I can see his ghost explore you
I can feel the sea implore you
Not to pass on by
Not to walk on by
And not to try*
The words above are a sample selection of song lyrics from a Waterboy’s tune and it is from these that our prompt for tonight’s Poetics will be birthed. Here’s the song for those of you who wish for your soul to be tingled by music.
What show of soul are we gonna get from you my dear poets?
Write me a soulful poem, a soul gazing haibun, a soul-filled sonnet, a soul-soup-mélange, a story of a Motown soul perhaps!…..sooooo many places we can go here. Is the soul within or without? Here is a quote from Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom, by John O’Donohue, which I have oft used as a source for inspiration.
“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to let compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment.”
Happy and soulful writing my friends and, as always, please link up your poem below and visit oner another to read and comment.

Good evening Paul, happy Tuesday dVerse Poets! I’m not sure if my offering is what’s expected: it’s slightly dark with a hint of spring. I’ll be disappearing for a while but will be back to read either later on this evening or first thing in the morning.

That O’Donahue quote reminds me of an Arvo Pärt song, sung by a tenor, “My Heart’s in the Highlands. Thank you for evoking the soul, Paul, the good work of every poet.
