Welcome to OpenLinkNight folks! This is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. For those who missed the Mr Linky deadline the past week or this Tuesday’s poetics about “Fay Collin’s Art”, this is also your opportunity to share your poem. Also, our Haibun Monday about “Chijitsu, Lingering Day” is open the whole week.
Let me share with you a beautiful reading by Meryl Streep of Sylvia Plath’s Morning Song:
MORNING SONG
Love set you going like a fat gold watch.
The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry
Took its place among the elements.
Our voices echo, magnifying your arrival. New statue.
In a drafty museum, your nakedness
Shadows our safety. We stand round blankly as walls.
I’m no more your mother
Than the cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slow
Effacement at the wind’s hand.
All night your moth-breath
Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen:
A far sea moves in my ear.
One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral
In my Victorian nightgown.
Your mouth opens clean as a cat’s. The window square
Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try
Your handful of notes;
The clear vowels rise like balloons.
To join us for Thursday’s OpenLinkNight, which happens every other week, here’s how to join:
See you at the poetry trail. ~Grace~

A summery Thursday here with a freak wave of welcome heat and a Plath poem too. She is a poet I return to, each time with renewed awe in her talent. Thank you Grace

Thanks, Grace for hosting. Sylvia Plath is a poet that I haven’t really read much but will after reading this poem. My poem, “Food Chain”, is a bit of anger and outrage. This incident has been on my mind for a while…especially as our neighborhood goes from reasonable Arts and Crafts houses, and now?
Grace said:
Looking forward to reading it Jane ~ Am doing my rounds in a bit ~

It was this poem that made me know deep down that for being a mum was probably the most important thing that I would ever do, and that they would never really be mine or belong to me, but it was my responsibility to prepare them for the world. I keep this poem in my heart and soul.
Grace said:
Very deep and meaningful but she has a way of saying it ~

I think I am going to lover dVerse very very (dig the repetitive symmetry of very very ahem) much. Grace thank you for hosting this and leading with such a lovely choice. the picture on your linked poem reminds me of a “cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slow Effacement at the wind’s hand.” Oh, our sweet Sylvia. Thank you, Lona.

Cheers for hosting Grace.
I did intend to go to bed (an hour ago), but penned instead.
Will read (others) as much as I can – until tiredness wins, then read more in the morning.

Hi Grace, I love this poem by Sylvia Plath. However, I doubt I would have read it at the time I wrote my poem which I linked for dVerse today. Written quite a long time ago but it is a true story. I actually delivered my second daughter myself, in my Dad’s car on the way to the maternity home. The last lines refer to the fact that I was so sick and tired of reading poems about death. Here I was celebrating life as the permanent thing I feel it to be. It’s one of two poems I have written about that exciting moment in my life.
Grace said:
A celebration of life indeed ~ Looking forward to reading it ~

Sorry I’m so late this week but I had to attend an award ceremony yesterday and in a bit I’m off to Cardiff. I’ll be back on Sunday, and will attempt to read and comment on my Kindle while I’m on the four hour journey on two different trains, and then, if necessary, I can catch up on Sunday. 42 links that fill me with anticipation. I apologise in advance for any strange comments – it will be due to predictive text on the Kindle or the movement of the train!

Hi Kim ~ I am just hitting up the trail myself and will be making rounds ~ Such a good afternoon to hike and walk again ~ Spring is coming at last ~
