“Meggie Folchart: Having writer’s block? Maybe I can help.

Fenoglio: Oh yes, that’s right. You want to be a writer, don’t you?

Meggie Folchart: You say that as if it’s a bad thing.

Fenoglio: Oh no, it’s just a lonely thing. Sometimes the world you create on the page seems more friendly and alive than the world you actually live in.”

Hello Dear Poets-

Welcome to Open Link Night where you are invited to share one poem of your choosing, be it new or old. You can also choose to write to one of the prompts you may have missed.

As you may or may not have realized, I have been absent lately from the writing scene. I am struggling to find my way back to writing. It is not any one thing, but rather I have discerned it is several.

When I came across the excerpt above from GoodReads, it gave me pause and made me think-this may be part of what is going on with me. Our country is in such a state of uncertainty, which promotes a feeling of helplessness. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way, and it can be disheartening.

I’m also dealing with painful arthritis in my hands and other joints. This is due to aging and the medication I am taking to help keep me cancer free. Lastly, my husband has retired which has changed the dynamics in our household. Don’t get me wrong; I love having him home but it is an adjustment.

All that said, I do miss writing and hope to get back to writing poetry, which I love.

When I was doing some research on overcoming whatever this is (I refuse to give it a name, for that gives it power), I came across this which says so much.

Lost Melody

I can feel the poetry leaving me

not because I’ve written my words

and shared them with the world

but because the melody

is gone from me

but I’ll keep stringing words together

make them make sense

make them find rhyme

keep finding a way

to make the words play

– Leigh Fisher

Isn’t that lovely? And so dear poets, I will leave you with a couple of corny jokes about writers from Jokesquotesfactory.com :

“I am a writer!” – “And already sold something?”

“Yes, my house and my car.”

Did you hear about the writer that became a tailor?

He had to make an Ernest living, the Hemingway.

Just a reminder:  OLN means you can post ONE poem of your choosing (no specified form, length, word prompt etc)
Also, we request you either TAG dVerse or include a line at the end of your post that includes a link back to dVerse.
Those of you new to dVerse, here’s how to participate:

  • Post any poem of your choosing on your blog or website.
  • Click on Mr. Linky below to add your name and enter the direct URL to your poem
  • On your blog, please provide a link back to dVerse. This enables others to enjoy our prompts, increases our readership and thus increases the responses to everyone’s poems.
  • If you promote your poem on social media, use the tag #dverse poets
  • And most importantly, please do read some of the other responses to the prompt and add a short comment or reaction. Everyone likes to be appreciated! The prompt is “live” for several days – as you’ll notice by the comments you’ll receive – so do stop by another day and read a few of the latecomers too!
