Ladies and gentlemen, fellow dVersers, I present to you The Quadrille!
Lillian here, coming to you from Boston, checking to be sure all are present and accounted for. Are you ready to imbibe with me today at dVerse, the virtual pub for poets around the globe?
I’m handing out presents, not exactly giftwrapped, but I do promise they are yummy! Step right up to the bar for special “gifts” of the day: a slice of lemon meringue pie or a lemon bar. Specialty drinks of the day are pink lemonade with a sprig of mint and a lemon twist, or a Kentucky lemonade (regular lemonade laced with bourbon).
Your only fee for entrance to the pub today? Leave behind a QUADRILLE (a poem of EXACTLY 44 words, sans title) that includes the word “present” in the body of the poem. You can use it as a verb or noun….you can use a form of the word (presents, presenting, presentation) but you can NOT use a synonmym for the word. Quadrilles are short but often pack a punch….like that Kentucky lemonade!
Looking forward to sipping my lemonade while reading all your quadrilles!

New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules?
Here’s what to do:
- Write a quadrille (a poem of EXACTLY 44 words, not including the title) AND include the word “present” or a form of the word within the body of the poem. A synonym for “present” does not fulfill the prompt. It must be the word, or a form of the word.
- Post the poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and comments, and others will find dVerse and hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!

Good evening poets one and all, and thank you, Lill, for hosting. I am pleased to say that we have had two days in a row of brilliant sunshine. Luckily, our old cottage is wonderfully cool. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t welcome an ice-cold drink in a very tall glass!
lillian said:
An iced drink coming up! Good to see you here, Kim. Summer has also arrived in Boston.

Hi Lillian. Thanks for hosting. Please bring the bright sunny day to Ontario as we are currently under the hazy sky due to the burning fires in Ottawa. Looking forward to reading!
lillian said:
Ah the fires in Canada. We are due for a “foliage cruise” roundtrip from Boston that will go up to Quebec, Halifax, PEI etc. I’m hoping there’s still some foliage left for us to see! Feel so badly for all the folks displaced by raging fires.

Hello Lillian and All. Late to the party but had a dental appointment and then had a few errands to run. I had a lot of fun with your prompt and looking forward to reading along the poetry trail to see what it inspired.

Kentucky Lemonade and a Lemon Bar please … love the challenge Lillian, for some reason earlier today I had been thinking about a decades-ago trip to Jamaica. The inspiration for my quadrille.

Am leaving the pub for the evening….will return in the morning and brew up some hot aromatic coffee for all. But not to worry….the key, as always when I mind the pub….is under the flowerpot to the right of the pub door. Let yourself in….lemon bars and slices of delicious pie are in the pub’s fridge as are the two lemonades. Again, all I ask….well two things really….are to leave behind a quadrille and to replace the key on your way out so others can drop in as well! 🙂
See you tomorrow morning all!
