What is OLN and what is OLN LIVE? OLN stands for Open Link Night when we invite you to post a poem of your choosing at Mr. Linky below. There is no particular prompt or length or form.
In addition, if you’d like to come to a LIVE dVerse session, use the video links above that enable you to join poets from around the globe for one hour on Thursday and one hour on Saturday. Everyone is invited to read aloud a poem of their own, or to just listen to others read. It’s such fun to actually put faces and voices together with the names of people whose poems we read at dVerse! But not to worry, if you’re not into that kind of sharing, just stop by and say hello and listen or just post at Mr. Linky and read others’ posts at your leisure. The more the merrier in either venue!
So I must tell all of you what my husband and I were doing in the month of July – which was why I wasn’t posting to dVerse then. We were literally walking through history! We were on three back-to-back-to-back cruises with Celebrity…. starting and ending just outside of Rome. While we enjoyed ship life, we truly enjoyed being in the world of antiquities. In Rome we spent a full day with an archeologist, beginning at the Colosseum. In Athens, we joined throngs of people at the Acropolis. We stood on the actual finish line (a long slab of marble) where the first real Olympics were held in Olympia. We walked the ancient marble slabbed roads of Pompeii; and marveled at the beauty of the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul. We were incredulous to see the sacred island of Delos and the neighborhoods unearthed there. Centuries of time under our shoes. An amazing experience! See some of our photos below.
And now we’re back home in Boston and I’m looking forward to reading your posts here at OLN. I always enjoy the diversity of poems when there’s no particular prompt or format. And I do hope to see many of you at OLN LVE today or Saturday. If you can’t make it right at the starting time, no worries. Drop in when you can! We’ll be there for an hour each day.
New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules?
Here’s what to do:
- Write a poem and post it to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and others will find dVerse to hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!
- Do stop by other folks’ poems, which you’ll find on Mr. Linky, and give a quick response to them. Everybody loves to be read!
Photos: left to right, starting at the top row.
* The Acropolis in Greece; from the 5th century BC
* Delos (mythological birthplace of Apollo: some excavations dating to the 1st millenium BC)
* The Hagia Sofia. Completed in 537 AD in then Constantinople. It was an Orthodox church until the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453. It was a mosque until 1935; then a museum until 2020; and now a mosque again.
* The finish line at the original site (776 BC) for the Olympics. Interesting to find out that races were run back and forth between this finish line and another slab of marble up the field of grass. In other words, runners ran in a straight line, back and forth.
* A road in Pompeii. Pompeii was destroyed in 79 AD by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.
* The Colosseum, completed in 80 AD in Rome.

Is it always on the same day and time?
lillian said:
Yes. Once a month: Thursday from 3 to 4 PM Eastern Standard time; and the following Saturday from 10 to 11 AM Eastern Standard time. If you look at the top of the dVerse page it says d’Team, d’Calendar or something like that. Click on d’Calendar and it will tell you which Thursday OLN LIVE is on and then it’s also the following Saturday.
