Greetings, poetical peeps! De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo. The year is zinging along, and it’s February already! Can you believe it? It’s also time again for my favorite prompt, the Quadrille – when we pen poems of precisely 44 words, including one word that we here at dVerse provide.

Today, the zing’s the thing.

I’d like you to pen us a poem incorporating some form of the word zing. You could write about some fabulous hot wings that had some real zing, a zing of pain that happened to your heart or body, or something that puts a zing in your step. Don’t forget about zingers: quick, witty, or pointed remarks.
(Or these delicious chocolate Hostess snacks.)

You could have some fun with hyphens:

A-maze
-zing.

Are you sync-ro-ni
-zing your words?

Are you seize
-zing the day?
Or perhaps sigh
-zing it up?

Are you free
-zing?

…or play around by replacing a more common word:
“I know why the caged bird zings.”

“…don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that zing.”
zing a song of sixpence, pocketful of rye…”

“fight like a butterfly, zing like a bee.”

An excerpt from The Blackbird, by William Barnes:

Vor we do hear the blackbird zing
His sweetest ditties in the spring,
When nippen win’s noo mwore do blow
Vrom northern skies, wi’ sleet or snow,
But dreve light doust along between
The leane-zide hedges, thick an’ green;
An’ zoo the blackbird in among
The boughs do zing the gayest zong.

New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Just pen us a poem of precisely 44 words, not counting the title, and using some form of the word zing. Post your poem on your own blog, and link up using the Mr. Linky below. Then zing on over to your fellow poets’ sites to read and comment on some of the most ah-ma-zing poems out there. And don’t forget, the Quadrille prompt is up all week long – so be sure to come on back and write and read some more!

I’ll leave you with some musical inspiration.
