Greetings, poetical peeps! De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo. The year is zinging along, and it’s February already! Can you believe it? It’s also time again for my favorite prompt, the Quadrille – when we pen poems of precisely 44 words, including one word that we here at dVerse provide.
Today, the zing’s the thing.
I’d like you to pen us a poem incorporating some form of the word zing. You could write about some fabulous hot wings that had some real zing, a zing of pain that happened to your heart or body, or something that puts a zing in your step. Don’t forget about zingers: quick, witty, or pointed remarks.
(Or these delicious chocolate Hostess snacks.)

You could have some fun with hyphens:
A-maze
-zing.
Are you sync-ro-ni
-zing your words?
Are you seize
-zing the day?
Or perhaps sigh
-zing it up?
Are you free
-zing?
…or play around by replacing a more common word:
“I know why the caged bird zings.”
“…don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that zing.”
“zing a song of sixpence, pocketful of rye…”
“fight like a butterfly, zing like a bee.”

An excerpt from The Blackbird, by William Barnes:
Vor we do hear the blackbird zing
His sweetest ditties in the spring,
When nippen win’s noo mwore do blow
Vrom northern skies, wi’ sleet or snow,
But dreve light doust along between
The leane-zide hedges, thick an’ green;
An’ zoo the blackbird in among
The boughs do zing the gayest zong.
(Read the whole poem here.)
More “zing” poems here.
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Just pen us a poem of precisely 44 words, not counting the title, and using some form of the word zing. Post your poem on your own blog, and link up using the Mr. Linky below. Then zing on over to your fellow poets’ sites to read and comment on some of the most ah-ma-zing poems out there. And don’t forget, the Quadrille prompt is up all week long – so be sure to come on back and write and read some more!
I’ll leave you with some musical inspiration.
Zing A Little Song – Bing Crosby
The Trammps – Zing Went The Strings of My Heart
Hotel Transylvania, The Zing Song
And, of course, Sesame Street

Good evening poets! I’m glad to say I have got a bit of my zing back today, and I’m looking forward to reading some zinging quadrilles.
happy to see you here, Kim!
hank you, De!
Thank you, De! The chest infection has affected my typing, too!
Sorry to hear you’ve been sick, Kim.
Thank you, De.
I don’t mind to have a Zingo tonight at the bar. Zingo is an orange soda that we have had in Sweden since my childhood.
Seeing if I can reply here. I’m having tech difficulties and can’t comment on the main post…commenting through the switchboard, or whatever.
It works for me.
Huh. Looks like that went through. Hi, All. I’m having tech/site issues today, and cannot comment on the Quadrille post directly. I’m having to go to the motherboard for posts, click comment, and then comment on someone else’s comment. Geez.
Anyway, welcome all! Putting out plenty of snacks, and zingy drinks, including Bjorn’s suggestion of Zingo. 🙂 Happy poeming. Making my rounds here in a minute. I hope.
I think I’ve figured it out. There’s suddenly an extra step, a box at the bottom that says “comment.” Instead of just clicking in the comments and commenting?
At least that’s the case for me today. Sigh. Sorry, all. Thanks for patience. Heading over to read soon.

Testing.
Is anyone else having problems commenting on Lisa’s quadrilles? Lisa, I can’t leave a comment on your blog, so I’m leaving it here:
I always like a two for one, Lisa, and the rhyming in both is fun and imaginative. In the first one, I especially love the thought of crystals going and spring groundwork showing.
I’m having commenting issues EVERYWHERE today, Kim, including on Lisa’s. Apologies, everyone. Please know I’m doing my best. Some blogs I cannot comment at all, others I have to find a workaround, open an entirely different search engine, or comment on another’s comment. SO bizarre. And difficult.
Hello De and All. De, sorry you’re hav-zing technical difficulties. Kim happy your lungs have their zing back. Such fun songs and funny videos. The Hotel Transylvania one had me laughing out loud. I wonder if my granddaughter has seen it.
Happy to see you here, Lisa! I had trouble commenting on your blog. Hope it went through. My tech-phobia is really zinging me today!
Thanks, De! Yes it did (I think as Someone.)
Lisa, I’m also having trouble leaving a comment on your blog, so I’ll say it here: These were some really fun poems, and their energetic cheerfulness perfectly matches spring.
Nicole, thanks for the heads-up on comments and glad you like the poems. I will try to look into it tomorrow.
hi all
glad to be here today
will try tp read tomorrow as having tec issues this end
rog
Rog, I think there’s something going on, globally, with some blogs. I am having a heck of a time today, as well. Glad you’re here!
All right, gang. I’ve got to step away from the Pub for a bit, to head out to a dental appt. I’ve commented on all the blogs I’m able. I’ll make my rounds again when I get back, and hopefully the interwebs will be in a better mood. 😉
Leaving an entire box of Zingers behind the bar for ya, and feel free to pour a drink or two, as well. Happy poeming!
CUpid is having a bad day. Ginger Ale, please
Hope Cupid’s day gets better, quickly! Ginger Ale, coming’ right up!

A real zinger of a prompt! Thank you for it. While I saw your note above, I won’t be drinkzing tonight. Will try to catch up tomorrow. (On readzing, not drinkzing)
Happy to see you here! I hope to be able to do some readzing and commentzing today…but tech issues are still drivezing me crazy! 😉
Many thanks De, this is ama-zing 🙂 Enjoyed the prompt
So happy you found some inspiration here, Paul! Heading over soon to read. Hoping I can comment. Looks like there are still some tech issues at play today.
Hi De–I’m posting Tuesday morning, so I missed your comments about the technical issues. I hope it’s better. Thank you for hosting!
Hi, Merril! Happy to see you here. I’m still having tech issues this morning. Can only comment by replying through the motherboard, not the normal site. Sigh.
I’m not sure what the motherboard is, but I’m sorry it’s such a pain. I don’t know why there are always such issues with WP.
Merril, your blog is one of the WordPress/Akismet combo issues I cannot for the life of me comment on. Sorry ’bout that. I liked your powerful piece. We could sure use some progress.
Thank you, De. I hope they fix the problems soon. There were a few blogs that if I reloaded the page I could comment.
“Motherboard” is what I’m calling the thing where you “sign in” (which I have to do every single time, for some reason) here at dVerse, and then that control board thing comes up, where you can see all posts, and all comments. If I go into the comments there, I can sometimes comment.
Great prompt like always! Thanks, De.
Happy to see you here! happy poeming!
De, excellent q prompt, as usual. Sorry about your tech difficulties! I didn’t see a link to a “zing” poem of yours. Wondering if you linked one or the tech crunch ate it or I’m lost and just don’t see it? ❤
Thanks so much, Jennifer. I hope to get mine written this evening or tomorrow morning. My mama’s 80th birthday is this week, and we’ve got family in town and such, so it’s been a crazy week.
Whew! Finally got my own poem posted, and I think I was finally able to comment on everybody! If you didn’t get a comment from me yet this week, please let me know. I’m still having to find weird ways around the usually commenting boxes, but I think they finally all went through. Thanks for your patience!
