Bonjour! Melissa here from Mom With a Blog, bringing you today’s Poetics prompt. It’s getting close to summertime here in the northeastern United States, and I decided to incorporate the beach into our prompt today.
Pablo Picasso is an artist with whom most are probably familiar. I had not ever scoured over his art before now. I decided to check it out and noted several intriguing paintings of women on the beach. Picasso spent most of his summers there.
For today’s prompt, let’s take a trip to the beach. Choose one of the paintings that follow. Tell us a story (in poem form) about your day at the beach, through the details of the painting. Think about the shapes and structural qualities Picasso incorporates into his work. Include aspects of shape and form in your poem. Please do share with us which painting you’ve chosen.

If you’re new, here is how to join us:
- Write a poem in response to the prompt.
- Enter your name and a link directly to the post containing your poem into Mr. Linky. Remember to check the box to accept use/privacy policy.

Good evening, I think that the best cocktail tonigth is “sex on the beach”… I would love one.
I just woke up from a nap. Haha just in time. Forgot to set an alarm. Thank you for adding Mr. Linky.🍹🍹🍹
Good evening poets, and thank you Melissa for the Picasso prompt. I hope you like my poem. I’m afraid I’m posting and running this evening as I’m still reeling from finding out that my beloved cat Mojo has oral cancer and has been given 1 – 4 months to live. I will be back in the morning to read and comment.
I was sleeping, so, I’ll catch you tomorrow. I will keep you and Mojo in my prayers.🙏🏻
Thank you, Melissa. I’ve been up for over an hour after a fitful night’s sleep. I feared the worst when they did a biopsy on the back of Mojo’s tongue while removing two teeth last week. Yesterday was supposed to be a post op appointment, but they had the histology report, which confirms that there is squamous cell carcinoma. The vet said Mojo has 1 – 4 months, so we’ll make that time comfortable for her.
I’m sorry, Kim.😔
Thank you, Melissa. She’s still eating and purring, sitting on my lap, sleeping on the bed with me. We just have to be aware of changes in her.
Thankfully very many of you haven’t stopped by yet! I forgot to set an alarm and I was sleeping.😴 I am here now. So, when you’re done hitting snooze, and you’re ready to write to our poetics prompt, we’re going to the beach. At Björn’s request we have a Sex on the Beach cocktail tonight; along with Fresh Corn Salsa, Salad Skewers; and if you’re in the mood for dessert, we have Lime Cracker Pie. Let me know what I can get for you.🌊
My poem took a very dark turn, and I’m shocked at how it came out. I’m blaming a nasty migraine. I might need an extra cup of coffee.
I’m sorry you’re having migraines again, Nolcha. Here’s a whole pot.☕️☕️☕️
Hi All! I had fun with this one ~ Picasso is a great inspiration, Melissa. Thanks for this challenge. One Sex on the Beach cocktail and another for “my friend” please!!
Hi Helen! I’m glad you enjoyed the prompt.🍹🍹
I mistakenly posted my poetics Picasso on yesterday’s Quadrille. Is there any way you can remove it? I am now showing in today’s Poetics challenge. Thanks so much.
Yes.
Hello, Melissa, thanks for hosting! I enjoyed the prompt very much.
I’m happy you enjoyed the prompt, Jay!❤️
Hi Melissa, everyone, what a fun prompt, I went with humour for this, mood is everything (plus a glass of cider).
Hi Paul! Thanks for stopping by.🍺
❤️😀
This was a humdinger of a prompt, Melissa. It took me two days to get my head around it and come up with something that made a little bit of sense. Thank you for hosting… Now I think I need a Root Beer Float with chocolate ice cream!!
Hi Dwight! Thanks for stopping by! One root beer float coming up.
Where is your poem on the prompt?? :>)
