Lillian here, hosting the pub from sunny San Diego! As we’ve done for the past 15 or so years, we’re escaping Boston’s cold heavy-coat, scarf, mittens, wool hat weather by enjoying California’s “winter”. Temperatures are always in the high 60s to mid-70s …. great sweater weather! And I must say, the ever-present sun sure puts a smile on my face!
Today is Open Link Night (OLN) at the dVerse pub. This means you’re invited to post ONE poem of your choosing on Mr. Linky below. There is no required form, prompt, or length;
OR
you may use today’s OPTIONAL PROMPT which is to write an ekphrastic poem related to the image below. The painting is entitled “Mme Kupka among Verticals” and was painted in 1910-11 by Frantisek Kupka. It is in public domain…however, please do credit the painter at the end of your post, should you choose to use this optional prompt.

AND, I do hope to see you on Saturday at our LIVE session!
New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules? Here’s what to do:
- Write ONE poem of your choosing (no required form, length, topic) OR ONE ekphrastic poem related to Frantisek Kupka’s painting, shown above.
- Post the ONE poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and comments, and others will find dVerse and hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!
Happy Thursday dVersers, and a special welcome to those first timers at our pub! dVerse is a virtual pub for poets around the globe with prompts on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and a LIVE session (audio and video) one Saturday a month.
I’m looking forward to reading all your posts in our Open Link Night (except here in San Diego, California, it’s only 12 noon) and hope to see many of you at our LIVE session on Saturday! Shy? Not to worry…come join us and simply mute your mic and listen in. The more the merrier!
Lillian
Good evening… it will be great to meet you all on Saturday.
I do hope we have a big crowd! I’ve heard from one person who is new to dVerse…I’d responded to her poem for another prompt and personally invited her. She was delighted and plans to come. Hope that happens with many 🙂
Good afternoon Lill. Thanks for hosting. We were hit with a snow storm yesterday and shoveling our way out. A good time for soup and poetry.
Oh dear…..hope you are not personally shovelling….if so, be sure to take some breaks for hot chocolate and to give your muscles and heart some rest! And we’ve escaped Boston’s winter as we have now for many years. It’s 75 degrees in San Diego today…unusually warm for this time of year here. It’s usually in the high 60s and very low 70s….either way, we love the sunshine, using public transportation to get about, and visiting the zoo (great walking there) at least once a week! Good to see you here, Mish! How I would love it if you would stop by our LIVE session…just to sit in. Turn off your camera and mic…it would just be so nice to say hello to you! 🙂
Enjoy your soup!
Thanks for the kind words, Lill. My hubby did the shoveling while I made the soup. Team work! I will join in some time. On Saturdays, we often visit my 87 yr. old mom who lives out of town. I’m her only support. So glad you are enjoying the weather and activities in San Diego.
Hi, Lillian and all! Thank you for hosting!
That’s a fascinating painting, and I might write to it another time.
I saw it at MOMA and just stopped in my tracks. Be sure to read Bjorn’s and Laura B’s poem for it as they did some research on the painting and it’s fascinating! I had no idea the story behind it…
Hope to see you Saturday!
I saw that it was at MOMA.
Yes, I read their poems.
Good evening Lillian and all,
Fashionable late to the party 😀 I will have hot chocolate with cheese cake please. Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday! ❤️❤️
*fashionably*

Hot chocolate and cheesecake coming right up! Good to see you here and will be nice to visit on Saturday! Hope we have a good crowd!
AND by the way, since dVerse is a virtual PUB for poets around the globe, I should mention the beverages and snacks we’re featuring today:
for those of you in warmer climates I have delicious sweet tea and also butter pecan icecream…I can also make a rootbeer float! For those of you in snow, or colder climages, I have coffees flavored with kahlua or brandy…or a mocha nonalcoholic coffee or hot chocolate….and I have fresh made apple pie warmed up!
That painting is so awesome Lillian. I’ll have fun hearing round ups.. Enjoy!!! xx
Glad you like the painting, Cindy. When I saw the original at MOMA in New York City, I just stopped in my tracks! It is indeed awesome.
On another note, hope to see you at our LIVE session on Saturday! As I tell other folks who don’t really want to read something aloud to the group, we lOVE having folks just come to sit in. The more the merrier!
Hi Lil and all – love the image you posted here. I plan to be there Saturday. How awake and alert I may be — well… 🙂
