Hello, dVerse poets! Welcome to the pub and Poetics! April was certainly busy, wasn’t it? I hope all who participated in some sort of poem a day writing enjoyed it.
I’m going to make this a simple prompt. You may choose to make it as complex as you’d like. People seem to enjoy creating poems from random words. I recently came across a dVerse prompt I did using types of daffodil names. As we are moving closer to summer, I’m going to use rose names.
Most people know these famous lines Juliet says in Romeo and Juliet
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet”
–William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
But there are so many different types of roses!
Please choose at least FIVE rose names from the list below. Or choose your own FIVE words or more from this huge list.
If the rose name is more than one word, you must use both words. There is one stipulation, you can NOT use the word, “rose” in your poem!

You may write any sort of poem—form or not. I know we all have poetic preferences. Or combine prompts. You may write about flowers or summer, but your poem does NOT have to be about those topics. I suspect most will not be. Even if you write a serious poem, I feel like I–and maybe you–need a prompt that’s not too complicated after NaPoWriMo and all that’s going on in the world.

Hello, everyone! Welcome! It’s a warm day here in southern NJ, so we have fresh lemonade and strawberry shortcake. Strawberries in just coming into season, so they’re fresh from the farm. We also have a Cinco de Mayo menu for those who want tequila and Mexican food. I can’t wait to read your poems!

Hello Merril and all dVersers! I LOVED this prompt! And such a fitting pairing with my Bloom prompt….April showers bring May flowers and they certainly have with the quadrille and now poetics. I really had fun working with this one! Great prompt!

hey merril thanks for the prompt and wonderful weather here in nj! it reminds me of the early days of quadrille, where we started trying to include as many previous words into the next weeks Q! i got 10 of your rose list before it started feeling too contrived.

Would you believe, there’s anew health store in town, and today I discovered there a real-life Mexican veggie pie. Had it for dinner tonight and it was yum. 😀

So many have included a mermaid in their poem! It suddenly brought to mind the old rom-com movie, Splash! Did you ever see it? It’s delightful! And now I think I’m going to have to see it’s it streaming on any of the channels…or if I can rent it again. Highly recommend!
Splash! was made in 1984 and stars a young Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah! A very fun movie! Highly recommend…and fitting after this prompt 🙂
