Now for the mini prompt:
I would like you to take inspiration from the opening line of Carl Sandburg’s poem “Fog.”
The fog comes on little cat feet.
The poem captures a quiet, fleeting moment in nature by describing fog, entering a city and harbor, pausing briefly, and then disappearing. Its simplicity reflects the nature of fog itself—soft, subtle, and temporary. Rather than using elaborate language, Sandburg relies on a single, vivid image to convey meaning.
The central metaphor compares the fog to a cat, moving “on little cat feet” and sitting “on silent haunches.”
This comparison is the heart of the poem. Fog isn’t just weather anymore—it becomes something alive, soft, and watchful. Like a cat, it’s quiet, graceful, and a little mysterious.
The poem also explores the idea of transience. The fog’s brief stay mirrors how moments in life come and go without warning.
Through its calm tone and minimal structure, the poem encourages readers to pause and appreciate these small, passing moments. Its effectiveness lies in its brevity, allowing the imagery and mood to leave a lasting impression.

Thanks, Sanaa. I didn’t write to the optional prompt, but thanks for offering it and all the delicious goodies. I’m a fan of Sandburg’s poetry–I especially like his collection of Chicago poems.
So pleased to hear that, Jennifer! Heading over to read you. Happy Thursday ❤️❤️
Hello to everyone.
