Colours.
Scents.
Texture.
Inspiring.
These are some of the words I associate with writing poetry.
Though the sky and clouds are gray outside my window, I marvel at the way the blank page comes to life — orange fire, bleeding red, inviting green, mysterious purple, sounds and smell of rain — under the skillful hands of the poet.
Stories and reflections, endings and beginnings — poetry weaves them into a vibrant and lasting season.
Creative expression. Challenge. Private world. Becoming.
These are reasons I write. How about you, what compels you to pick up the pen or type your words ?
However you express yourself or color and shape your words, we at dVerse would love to hear them in the spirit of mutual engagement and support. Sometimes writing is a lonely journey when there is no one to share it with, and much less, to cheer us on. Fortunately for us, we have this community that allows us to share our love for words each and every week.
By linking in, the door to the virtual pub opens — here you will find people just as passionate as you about writing. I have learned a lot about improving my craft from reading and visiting the work of others – the talents are boundless, the generosity to give encouragement, even more.
Welcome everyone to another Open Link Night at D’verse Poets Pub. Grace (aka Heaven) guest hosting for tonight. Share with us your words and be inspired.
Here’s how you can do it.
- Link the poem you’d like to share–old or new, on any topic (one per blog, please) by clicking on the Mr.Linky button just below.
- This opens a new screen where you’ll enter your information, and where you also choose links to read.
- Once you have pasted your poem’s blog url and entered your name, simply click submit.
- Don’t forget to let your readers know where you’re linking up and encourage them to participate by including a link to dVerse in your blog post.
- (Something I too often forget to do, so this is a reminder for me, too.)
- Visit as many other poems as you like, commenting and liking as you see fit.
- Spread the word on the poems you enjoy if you’d like. Tweet and Pin and otherwise Share on the social media of your choice.
- Finally, enjoy! Remember, we are here for each other. Thanks to all of you for sharing your brilliant creations.

Yay for open link night!
Whoowhoo ~ Thank you Kelly ~
Wheee! I’m not the first link, but I am the first reply. Happy Open Link Night to all. 🙂
Except Kelly totally snuck in there while I was typing.
LOL. It said I was number 10 while posting, but in that 1 second 10 more folks posted before me. d’Verse is a video game for some of us when we are free at 3 pm. Like playing pool in the bar.
Wow, look at the rush to the pub ~ Great to see everyone “waves” ~
Grace
It’s like trying to get in the A group on Southwest. 🙂
hahaha…exactly….
Welcome to the Pub, Grace. Very, very happy to see you here! 🙂 xox
And I am very very happy to see you too Joe ~
thanks Grace for hosting today’s OLN and happy tuesday everyone… i’m commenting under difficult circumstances today as my daughters force me to watch miami vice with them…in SPANISH…..ha…smiles…there ARE some words that i understand though…smiles
Happy Tuesday Claudia ~ Hasta la vista…:-)
chau! smiles
Claudia, that must be torturous. Next you should try watching an Almodovar film with Portuguese subtitles. Now, that is a challenge. 🙂
now that sounds like a challenge indeed…oh my…smiles
i loved the TV show growing up…will confess to even wearing the white jacket and loafers at one point in life…smiles.
Welcome everyone to OpenLinkNight ~
Happy to be helping out with serving the drinks and poetry inspiration ~
smiles…happy to see you here ma’am….thanks for tending pub…you seem to be doing a great job so far…
Welcome Grace…and a Happy OpenLinkNight to all
Happy OpenLinkNight Tash ~
Hope you are keeping warm ~
Hi, Grace, and welcome…nice to have you hosting…could I have one of these drinks with an umbrella please? :))
“dashing from the bar” ~ Thank you Jackie ~ Sure, here’s one for you ~
nice…afterwards we take the umbrella and fly a bit ..like mary poppins… hehe
What gets me to write? … Moments… Mostly moments…. A single gesture or emotion or instant and then trying to communicate it, and that’s what I look for in other writers too. Hoping for a few good moments tonight !
Yes, trying to capture the elusive moment is such a challenge. I am in awe of writers who do it so well ~
Thanks Brian ~
yours was very moving brian..
Wow, it was cold outside, but inside the pub is warm and their are lots of smiles. Hi folks.
Most folks embrace all sorts of poetry. But some poets tell us what Poetry is …” at the exclusion of other types of great poetry? So I wrote a poem about that and made an image to go with it.
I have also updated and added new poet quotes to the list (and categories), so I am sharing again . I just shared it on Poets United. Lookin’ forward to frank feedback here. Thanx for opening the doors!
Great to see you Sabio ~ And we are hovering at/below zero C at this part of world…very cold ~
smiles…over here it’s snowing again…just perfect to get a warm drink and some nice poetry in the pub
what a gorgeous into:-)
Thank you Laura ~ Happy birthday to your lovely daughter ~
Look at Grace hosting with such an embrace.
Hi Pat ~ Great interview the other day ~
Beautiful picture… enjoyed your post, Grace.

Regards to all. James.
Great to see you James ~
Happy Open Link Night all! I missed it last week and taking a moment to share and wish you all the best.
Thanks for this wonderful community.. I am proud to be a member here.
Enjoy your evening!
Nice to see you Gwen ~
Grace you have me feeling all warm and cozy now!
Well, its very cold and dreary outside ~ Here, have a seat and let’s share the warmth of the pub ~
Tuesday again?! Man! This end of year is racing by much too fast. Happy OLN all.
What a delightful intro to this week’s Open Link Night!
As for your question:
I’m ensnared by rhyme,
So must write all the time.
Here’s my latest limerick about having a really bad memory: Limerick Ode To A Bad Memory.
Thanks!
Thank you ~ You are the Queen of this form ~
Cheers ~
Thanks so much, Heaven! I appreciate it! 🙂
Hey Grace,
Thanx for hosting. I didn’t know you were part of d’Team. You need your blurb and photo on that page.
“What inspires me to write?” Three things: ideas, an event or a scene — all highly emotional for me. But I imagine others are the same.
Hi Sabio,
I am just guest hosting but aren’t we all part of the d’Team?
I can relate to your inputs as I am emotional too when I write. Thanks for sharing ~
I write to explore what’s in my head, my heart, my soul and in the world around me. I find that I write better when I have more going on in my life – writer’s block is a sure sign that my life has become too empty.
Thanks to everyone here at dVerse I have people to share my writing with, from the good to the indifferent (writing, not people!).
Happy OLN folks
PS – thanks to Grace for hosting. She knows what my order is….
I sure do ~ Here’s one for you Tony ~
I like your answer Tony, though in our busy lives its a challenge to capture everything, and find the time to write about it. But busy is good ~
Happy Open Link to all. I wrote a piece of pure fiction, I swear I don’t know anyone like this 😉 Thanks for hosting, Grace.
Pamela
Hi Pamela ~ Will be reading yours in a bit ~
Hey, y’all! I brought the popcorn today, and it ain’t none a that new-fangled mcrowave stuff either! Hope ya like it! (I’ll be havin a soda pop with mine, but it goes good with beer, wine, or just about anything ya like to drink.)
Popcorn is good Charles ~ “passes the bowl around”
..ha, i had to stop my hybernation for today waking as earlu as 2a.m. to link at the pub… and yeah… thank you Grace for hosting today with that wonderful intro… now spare me some time to sleeo again…i’ll come back later to read… good mor-night!!! XD
Good morning to you Kelvin ~
Hello Gace aka as Heaven…great intro …love the textures and colours of your thoughts on writing. My fav pub ..cheers.
Hi Bren ~ Love your share dear ~
Grace! Fun to meet you here serving up the Pub tonight. Mine has colors and impressions, but today this also a poem on a mission, which is occasionally–much rarer now than in the past–where I begin to write.
Hi Susan ~ I do love colors and impressions ~ Will be checking it out ~
thanks for hosting tonight grace…and love that you used sueanns picture as well…still at work so will be making the rounds as soon as i get the kiddos off…
Thanks for the invite Brian ~
Well I will be driving home shortly too ~ See you in the trail ~
good evening ye poets!
Good evening to you as well ~
Dearest Grace – how charming to see you behind the bar. I loved your introduction to OpenLinkNight and as promised I am linking another quatern. It worked better I think in the planning than in the execution but I’m eager to know what folks think of it. I will add it to my growing collection of “dance” poems. Maybe I’ll make a “chapbook” of them! I often think we should make chapbooks of the form poems posted for FormForAll. Last Thursday we had such excellence from all who linked!
Dearest Gay, I love your Square Dance poem ~ You make writing these forms so easy and effortless ~
And a chapbook is a wonderful idea ~
i’m in, with my good-bye poem to paris (for now 😉 )
the poem is part of a good-bye paris post, with images of a plaque my wife and i were able to find commemorating the spot england signed the treaty of paris recognizing american independence
thanks heaven, for hosting, nice job 😉
Nice to see you Felipe ~ Someday I want to travel to Paris ~
one of those places everyone should at least “touch” 😉
good to see you hosting! 😉
smiles…bonsoir monsieur…. was great meeting you and your lovely wife yesterday.. i had to run through paris to make it in time to my appointment…smiles
seemed the time went by faster than kids opening presents at christmas 😉
Lovely intro, Grace…I guess we would share those reasons for writing…love that photo. Happy Open Link Night 🙂
Happy OLN Louise ~ The picture by SueAnn is stunning ~~
Hi Grace, Thank you so much for hosting tonight and for such a warm welcome. What a beautiful photo you shared! Glad to be here tonight. Sharing a piece about season’s change/impending winter. Heading in to read what others have brought to the pub today. Catch you inside!
Hi Ginny ~ Thanks for sharing your lovely work ~
ok poets..time for me to switch the lights off… this spanish movie has worn me out…smiles…see you tomorrow..
Sleep well Claudia ~
sleep well claudia…smiles.
Thanks for the venue 🙂
Nice to see you Chris 🙂
what a lovely opening prompt! Thanks SueAnn!
Here’s something with orange and red. I used to post under the kickoutthejams moniker but have got myself a new blog just for my poems, those of you kind enough to follow that site might like to update your link as I am letting that site disappear into the ether. Sean
Nice to have you hostess, Grace. I’ll be back to read, but most likely won’t be able to post today.
Thanks for dropping by Victoria ~
HEAVEN!
So nice to see you are our hosting today
(Take it easy) 🙂
Hugs, my dear
Hi sweet Dulce ~ “hugs you back”
Hi, Grace….so nice to see you ‘behind the bar’ today. And thank you for hosting. There are many answers to why I write, I think. First of all, I enjoy it. Second of all, I enjoy it. (LOL) Thirdly, I think it is important for everyone to preserve his/her words and thoughts in some way. Fourth, I enjoy the interaction/community/reciprocity with other poets. I like to see what others write and I enjoy reading comments on what I write. Prompts are always a good source for ideas. Open link nights are a bit more of a challenge. I look forward to reading what people share today!
Hi Mary ~ Writing and sharing them in a community like this makes it enjoyable, I agree with you. And during OLN, its the unexpected and wide ranging topics that makes this fun ~
Hello everybody. I’m stumbling around a little, hiding in the kitchen for my first time
welcome paul…great to see you…enjoy your time mingling among the poets…smiles.
Wow, I’ve managed to come up with something to link up once again. I’m becoming a regular at this pub. 😉
I love the treasures….Thanks for being here 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
Hello. I’m lurking in the kitchen for my first time, a little unsure where to head
Hello there ~ I just read your comment, welcome to the pub ~
Feel free to visit any of the links in Mr Linky ~
Looks like a great crowd! 🙂
Yes, it is ~ Hi Tracie ~
A lovely painting Grace. I wrote a piece of pure fiction too. I swear I don’t know
anyone like this:)
Happy Linky Link…I have been “in absentia”…due to major computer issues but maybe my computer karma is ok now. Thanks SueAnn..
i have been “in absentia” due to major computer trouble…hopefully over thanks to a tenacious fellow in New Delhi, India. Glad to be back…I write when I don’t know what else to do. …sometimes with a pen and sometimes on a keyboard……
welcome back…and hopefully the computer woes are behind you…they are so frustrating….smiles.
Welcome, nice to see you here ~
Hello, noticed you had an open mike night so I though I would drop in and join you tonight. 🙂
glad you did and brought a little wonder with you…smiles..
alright poets, off to dinner with the fam and then a little fun time…be back later this evening to catch up with the rest of you…
Nice…I believe in the wonder and magic of the season ~
See you in a bit Brian ~
Happy Open Link Night, everyone! Thanks for hosting and your inspiring words, Grace… 🙂
Happy OLN to you as well Miriam E.
Happy OLN to you Miriam ~ Great work on the form, Gay will be pleased ~
I am hooked thanks to her… 😉
I know I have been writing garbage lately, BUT I am pleased to say nothing has changed this week. SO, read at your risk, it may turn you off poetry, but I sense a re-poetransformation coming on, and I should be back to my not as close to garbage poetry you are used to reading from me. Yet, I look forward to reading your excellente verse, and I am very glad Grace is hosting. So a brandy please, alright a double. Maybe I’lll find a bar muse tonight and find new inspiration. My old muse has left me for sunnier days. Go figure?
haha i have serious doubts you will turn any away…smiles.
Here’s your brandy, dear Henry ~ Fun write and hey, you can always sing..he..he… ~
If I had to make a living from singing I am sure starving would be involved.
Was it a wilted rose? 😉
It was a sick rose I believe, too much BS.
Thanks for this link and stage. I don’t post much, but I muse here often.
Cheers!
Thanks for the visit ~
Pub goers, like ready set, go! I know I have a xmas one so must find it.
Nice to see you at the pub ~
Thank you and this one is short and sweet. Season’s Greetings ya’ll
Wow! What a stunning, poetic photo! Thank you for hosting and I will swing ’round and visit others.
Hi Margaret ~ Thanks for dropping by ~
It’s always a pleasure to treat oneself with something at d’VersePoets!! So glad to be here!!!
How lovely to see you Kavita ~
Grace, I always love the sensuality of your poetry. I’m participating today mostly in support of you. I wrote something quickly, without much preparation, but an attempt nevertheless at attaining that skill you talk about that gives poets their texture. Thanks so much for hosting.
Thanks for being here Myrna ~ Love that touch of balance, so challenging to maintain in any relationship ~
Heaven behind the bar!
i hope everyone enjoys a drop of something in the air – inspiration for my linked poem tonight. Cheers all!
Cheers ~ Great to see you ~
Oh dear….seems my comment has disappeared into the ether down Mexico way so to speak. Quel coincidence!
i saved you from oblivion..got caught in the filter for some reason…
I just read this – nice to see you here ~
A toast to Open Link Night, and to poetry! Cheers!
Cheers to you too Sam ~
good to see you sam….heading to bed myself….see you all in the morning!!!!
smiles…sleep well… just crawled out of bed…need a coffee and will be out on the trail in a few minutes…
Hi Grace, Hi Claudia–I am sorry to be so late, and I haven’t been able to visit–a very crowded time, glad to come up with something and will try to clock in and visit tomorrow. Thanks so much, Grace, for your lovely hosting. k.
Good morning K ~ Lovely to see you ~
I love pubs! I can’t wait to start reading.
Good morning MAS ~
Whew, you just woke me up with your offering ~ Love it ~
How i write ,morning is the trigger my heart the finger how it is loaded usually depends on first thoughts and i run with the flow. Glad to be with you all be happy and creative
Good morning to you ~ And mornings are my favorite time of the day to write too ~
good morning poets…caught up on the overnights….will check in at lunch and see who else is joining the party today…
I’m coming late to the party but glad to be here.
Such a lovely share ~ Thanks for being here ~
Bit late to the party as usual – so fashionably late that it’s become unfashionable… Look forward to reading as many of your poems as I can, no link for me this week though!
What are my reasons for writing? Well, I hear voices (sssh, don’t tell anyone, or they’ll lock me up!)
Mr. Linky is still open if you decide to write them later ~ Cheers ~
I am really late to the party! I do hope there is still some hard cider to go around. 🙂 I actually could have used it yesterday, but there was no time so today will have to do. Peace, Linda
“Hands over a hard cider” ~ Thanks for dropping by ~
Cheers ~
A first draft of a new poem.
Enjoyed it ~ Thanks for sharing them ~
Ayay! My pen went dry and can’t make a new one. 🙂 Pardon me, I will link something old.
