a pub at the end of the road,
an open mic
and a poem which made me cry..
that’s all i got today…and probably that’s all we need..
.
Poetry
(by Pablo Neruda)
And it was at that age … Poetry arrived
in search of me. I don’t know, I don’t know where
it came from, from winter or a river.
I don’t know how or when,
no they were not voices, they were not
words, nor silence,
but from a street I was summoned,
from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others,
among violent fires
or returning alone,
there I was without a face
and it touched me.
I did not know what to say, my mouth
had no way
with names,
my eyes were blind,
and something started in my soul,
fever or forgotten wings,
and I made my own way,
deciphering
that fire,
and I wrote the first faint line,
faint, without substance, pure
nonsense,
pure wisdom
of someone who knows nothing,
and suddenly I saw
the heavens
unfastened
and open,
planets,
palpitating plantations,
shadow perforated,
riddled
with arrows, fire and flowers,
the winding night, the universe.
And I, infinitesimal being,
drunk with the great starry
void,
likeness, image of
mystery,
felt myself a pure part
of the abyss,
I wheeled with the stars,
my heart broke loose on the wind.
.
honestly..i’m so ready to break loose on the wind…

Claudia I love you poem choice. I wonder how many here answered such a calling. Its almost religious when poetry calls one, isn’t it? I wonder if priests and nuns know this kind of joy…
claudia said:
i’ve read that first part of the poem again and again and thought…yes, yes, yes – just like that…isn’t it awesome…? i so agree with you
darkangelwrites said:
Yes! Its like poetry picks you, not vice versa. Then even your worst days make sense, because from every experience a poem is born. (wow I think I better leave that metaphor alone, lest I offend)

You can never not learn or feel something from Neruda, or both. Wonderful choice, Claudia–thanks for hosting tonight. I’ve linked the last of my four sestinas on the ancient pagan yearly festivals, (and what hell they all were to write–last hardest of all, I think, but satisfying also)–hope readers will enjoy this one, about Samhain, as the winter draws in and the summer fades.

Finally I could post my poetry this time… Interestingly, I am trying something new to share with you all.. a kind of poetry that was triggered by a powerful recitation of poetry, by Mr. Vikram Seth – A great writer, at a literary festival that I happened to attend last weekend in Chennai India. Hope you will all enjoy it.
