Greetings, my poetical friends. De here (aka WhimsyGizmo). It’s my turn to host my new favorite prompt, the Quadrille, where we nudge you to pen just 44 words, including a word of our choosing.
Today, I want you to write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting your title), including the word spill.
Spill the beans. Spill us some ink. Spill us your heart. Write about the horrors of an oil spill, or the bruised ego that came from a silly spill on your bicycle. Use it as a noun. Use it as a verb. And don’t cry over spilt – you can use that, too.
I’ll leave you with the inspiration of my favorite spill of blue, Lake Tahoe.
Ready to spill your Quadrille?
– Let your words (44 of ’em, to be exact) spill over.
– Put your poem on your blog and link back to this post.
– Link it up to our Mr. Linky.
– Visit other blogs. Enjoy some amazing poets. Comment. Come back later this week and write another one, and visit some more. Comment some more. Spill all you want. We’ll be writing – and reading – all week!
Good evening poets… I have not spilled any words yet… but I will soon get back with some words for you… De might be a little late, but will be here in a while. In the meanwhile spill some wine….
Happy Monday everyone ~ spill the words, spill the beans, spill the drinks all around, smiles ~
Looking forward to read your Quadrille poems ~ De, thanks for hosting and sharing that stunning photo ~
Grace, your comment and somehow the words spill and smiles inspired my 2nd Q44! Thank you, it’s as much yours as mine! 🙂
I have spilled my Quadrille, in memory of and in honor of all of my LGBT friends. I am so saddened by the massacre in Orlando and so saddened for my friends.
Standing in solidarity, Toni.
I shall let my friends know they are not alone. They know it but every bit of positivity to them helps.
My kid sister is a member of the LGBT community. I understand the struggle. And support her in every way.
I am glad you do. My long long time best friend stood with my husband at our wedding. She was so proud to be part of our day. His family was outraged and afterwards, addressed her standing with him instead of his brother. I told them he rarely spoke to his brother but that Jo was his best friend. So….
Very much in the news here too Toni ~
Mine is based on something that could be related to that as well… though more as metaphor…
Toni, I stand beside you all, as well. There is never, EVER any room for hate in the world. Only love.
No there truly isn’t. I pray for the day when there is no hate.
Getting back to my words after a very trying week. My mother-in-law passed last Tuesday and she was buried on Saturday. Sunday truly was a day of rest. Now I need to immerse myself in words and maybe purge this malaise. Glad I got this first one out of my system.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I am so sorry this happened. But….how do I comment on your page?
The last line before the poem begins should show the number of comments written. That is the link to the comment box. It should be functioning.
Sorry to hear of your loss, Walt. May your friends here and the love of words and poetry be healing to you today.
I felt it all week long, Victoria. Thank you for your kindness.
Condolences to the family Walt ~
Thanks Grace.
So sorry for your loss.. and I hope words is the best of cures to get it out of your system….
Words haven’t failed me in that regard, Bjorn. Thank you!
Hi, Walt. I find the Q44 to be PERFECT for getting the poeming juices flowing (or spilling, as today’s case may be.) As I said on Facebook, I am so very sorry for your loss, but happy she is at peace.
Appreciated it there, and even more so here! Thanks, De.
My condolences to you and your family Walt
Thanks Arcadia!
My deepest condolences for you and your family, Walt. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a loved one but I can say from experience that it’s a relief that their suffering has finally ended.
Gayle ~
So true, Gayle. She is at peace. And we will be soon too!
So sorry to hear of your family’s loss. Sending peace and light to surround you during this difficult time.
Much appreciated! Thank you!
So sorry for your loss, Walt. Condolences to you and your family.
The family’s coming along. Acceptance is right around the corner! Thanks for your kind words, Kim!
You are more than welcome, Walt.
G’day everyone. I wrote mine before learning of the horrible tragedy in Orlando. I suspect I will need to pen another one speaking to that. I will read a few and then have an appointment but look forward to reading more throughout the week. This is such a fun prompt.
I wrote mine early too before reading the news. Looking forward to that Victoria.
Hi, Victoria! So glad you’re here. I, too, hope to spill some words of love today.
The Quadrille is so much fun indeed. And it tightens up our wordsmithing as well. Lots to say in a little space.
I think the brevity makes it even more fun…
Yes! or, as in the case of my Quadrille today, even more solemn.
It’s my absolute favorite. Hands down. (Pen up.) 😉
Helloooooo, gang. So sorry to be so late to the pub. This day has spilled over into a big hot mess, but I’m back on track now. 😉
Getting around soon to see all your great poems. Spill your guts and your glory. I’m readin’. 🙂
You come just in time… I need to get some beauty sleep… 🙂
G’night, B. May your dreams spill peacefully.
Good morning De. I’m late to the party but early in time! I love writing quadrilles and this is a great prompt. While I like challenges that give structure and boundaries, I also love the freedom of a one word prompt. Looking forward to reading once I have posted.
Good morning, Kim! I’ve got my coffee and am getting ready to make more rounds. Can’t wait to read yours!
Bjorn and Grace, thanks for opening up the joint for me! Cheers!
Drinks spillin’ everywhere, on the house.
My old pub landlord used to say “One good spiller’s better than 2 good drinkers”. In deference to him I’ve left you 2 quadrilles. Neither very happy. Think I’ve overdone it on the gin…
Happy material or not, Sarah, I find myself going a bit **fangirl** over your work today. Just.so.good. Thank you!
Thank you! I didn’t find it a comfortable prompt, maybe I need to be uncomfortable once in a while…
Finally got mine spilt. 😉
Late to the pub — out with a dear friend this afternoon and for dinner too. She lost her partner of many years about 13 months ago — she works hard to get out and about so we had a good day together. Here now — will pour a bit of chardonnay in a while. I did post — also related to horrific tragedy at Club Pulse.
Perhaps I shall write another lighter in nature. I do believe in the good of people – may goodness prevail.
Hi, Lill! Glad you got linked up. Hope you had a great day with your friend!
Amen
Hello everyone. Looking forward to reading everyone’s quadrilles.
Welcome, Arcadia. Cheers!
Stepping away from the pub for just a little bit, to spend some time with my hubby (both kids are unexpectedly away at friends’ houses for the evening.) Spilling a round of colorful, tasty drinks in advance to leave for y’all. And I’ll be back just before bed to check in again. Cheers and happy Q-ing!
Thanks for hosting the Q44, De! This seems to be a favorite of quite a few of us, and just what is needed after such tragedies in the news lately. Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead. 🙂
So happy to see you here! Cheers!
Have had to do another Q44/
Yay! You know I’m a big fan of double (triple-quadruple) dipping, when it comes to the Q44. (And a HUGE fan of your work, so it’s a win-win.)
Thank you De. Hugs to you.
Hats off to you! I have enough trouble with one Q44! 😮
Thank you!
Slipping in to link up my quadrille. Another great word…so versatile. Thanks De! 🙂
Hi, Mish! Loving the diversity and creativity of everybody’s spilling words. And I chose the word (and wrote the post) last week, but it does seem to fit well with the terrible news over the weekend. Sigh. I ache for this world.
‘Spill’ is certainly an apt word for the Orlando tragedy, and that’s where my thoughts went too.
Yes, it does seem to, Rosemary. I wrote the post last week, but it’s fitting. Hopefully it is allowing lots of us to have a safe place to put our anger and loss.
Mine did as well, especially after Bryan’s post at Quest 4 Peas – thank you again, Bryan!
Loved to write my 44-words poem!
My very first attempt at this form 🙂
Welcome, Anita! So glad you’re here! The Quadrille (Q44) posts every-other Monday, and stays open all week. Hope you’ll write another! And stick around later today for a great new prompt, too!
Mr. Linky will not work on my iPad . I am up @ http://Purplepeninportland.wordpress.com
Loved it, Sara. And I linked you up. 😉
Thanks, De!
I spilled my hot mess for you to endure. Lol! This is my 2nd Quadrille since being here I enjoy doing them. Today is Tuesday better late than never.
Sorry for your loss Walt! I hope time will help, for me, writing always helps some.
What happened in Florida is horrible especially the fact that this guy was already on lists and still got his hands on guns. My heart goes out to everyone involved in this tragedy!
Be around to read this week! Hugs! Bekkie
Bekkie, I loved your piece.
Thank you so much!
Apropos Florida: can the people who sold him the gun not be prosecuted for negligence?
Viv, I wish this were true, for sure. There needs to be tons of accountability, all round.
I know nothing about guns or the laws, or what good it did to have him on a list when it did nothing to help.
I find these very taxing to write! But behold, I tried again and it’s an accomplishment. Ssshhh, never mind it took me at least an hour… I stopped keeping track after that! Tonight I’m tired, but tomorrow I’ll be thanking De for the challenge! LOL
Yay! Heading over now!
I’m very late with mine, but we have visitors this week, and I’ve been too tired to write. But I couldn’t miss out completely, I love the 44-word discipline.
Heading over now, Viv. Happy to see you here!
There are a lot of us about.
Keep writing and sharing, y’all! I’m about to attempt to do the one where I include all the words we’ve offered for Quadrille so far…wish me luck! 😉
I am late , my muse had something to say in 44 words…I’ll be around off and on today reading
