Hello friends, poets.
Once more summer is here, Here in Sweden warmth is not guaranteed. Which brings me to what good weather means if you are brought up in Sweden. There is something close to a moral duty to go out and “do something”. I was brought up with the notion that it’s a moral duty not to be inside when days are long, and sun is up. So we tend to plan our life to be outside in summer. To seize the day, because tomorrow it might rain or just be cold. Besides soon autumn’s here. Sometimes it’s almost stressful of all that’s needs doing, and soon we have vacation, and every plan should be fulfilled. Actually for many the high expectations end in disappointments, depression or divorce.
Please tell me, how do you plan your summer, plans, vacations or poetry. Maybe you can share a summer poem with us. I included this reading by Mary Olivier.
But of course this is Open Link, any poem is welcome. Maybe you want to catch up on one of the prompts we’ve had since last:
The Music in You
The Elegy or
Even Monkeys Fall from Trees
Whatever you decide to share, here is how it works.
- Post your one poem to your blog
- Add the link directly to your poem using Mr Linky below
- Read and comment on other poets’ poetry, all of us enjoy visits
- Tell your friends to visit, make poetry grow
Good evening… I’m here to serve you… keep the poems coming
Good evening 🙂
Thank you for hosting and for Mary’s poem. Ah, what a way to start the afternoon.
I know how many of you love her poems so I wanted to give you all a treat.
I adore Mary Oliver!! And this reading just made my afternoon. Thanks so much for posting — smiling I am.
Hey everyone,
Hope you’re having an amazing week so far, sharing my poem “Sous la lune.” Thank you for tending the bar tonight Bjorn 🙂
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Oh I will just tap up some drinks before going around reading a bit more…
Don’t forget Haibun Monday, All About the Quotidian. Woohoo! Prompt is still up for it.
Yes indeed… More to write…
…and more to read 🙂
Oh that poem is one of my very favorites and this is the first time I’ve heard her read it! Splendid. Looking forward to seeing what others have written. My summer will be spent in the garden, writing poetry and enjoying our lovely area. No special plans at this time. I hope to self-publish another book of poetry by September. We’ll see. Life is always full of variables.
I think your poem was almost written to a prompt… excellent.
Looking forward to your book, Victoria, whenever it appears! 😀
Quite a way to go, but thank you.
That’s so wonderful Victoria 😀 wish you the best for your book ❤
Thank you, Sanaa.
The summer days are so very long here. 5 am to 9 pm – and sometimes it is so very hot, one stays inside to not melt! We have all kinds of jokes about how hot it is.
Ha.. here it dawns at 3 AM and it doesn’t get dark until 10:30… but it’s quite cold, so it’s OK to stay inside.
But we have stars – lots and lots of stars! I love going out at night and looking up at them. No light pollution out this way so they seem close enough to touch.
Oh Toni — so jealous of your stars! We shall see them in a few weeks when we spend about 4 days in the Berhshires 🙂 City scape here hides them 😦
It is so dark here except for occasional light. The country is very dark and serene at night. I envy you the Berkshires though. When I lived on Long Island, I had a friend who lived in that area and sometimes went to visit. Glorious places.
Hello everyone, in honour, of June, being Pride month, in Canada, have posted a poem that I have written, earlier this month, marking the healing that is going on, within Canada’s First Nation’s LGBT+ community. For many LGBT+ people, Pride marks the start of our summer.
Here in Stockholm Pride is very much in the middle of summer… a very big event where many outside of the community also celebrate.
Ours is more in the middle as well. Being blind, I can attend events without wondering what someone’s gender is. There’s an advantage!
It is Pride Week in Boston too. We shall be attending the parade on Saturday.
Hi Bjorn,
Happy OLN and happy summer from my part of the world ~ Will be hitting the poetry trail in a bit ~ When the pub goes on break, so will I. I will traveling to LA to visit my folks ~
What a great way to have a vacation…
Sounds good 🙂 hope you have a good time, Grace ❤
Hurrah, I managed to join in for OLN, 7 post the Blackthorne Review VI; a humdinger for sure. It doesn’t match the prompt, but it just feels good to have temporary control of the cyper gnomes for now.
There is no prompt today… just a little bit of inspiration… Open Link is any poem (mine does not fit either)
Thank you for hosting, Bjorn!
Oh My pleasure.. love all the variations of an open link.
Good to see you, Freya 😀
My thanks to you as well, Njorn! My linked poem wasn’t written to a prompt, but is a musical one. Thank you to everyone who has read so far – my comments seem to be turned off and I’m working on it. 😮
Sorry Bjorn, apparently I can’t spell. 😮
No problem… look forward to read your poem… 🙂
Love your tribute to an Ukulele… I learned once that the instrument comes out a Portuguese guitar… 🙂
Oh so that’s why I couldn’t comment.. was wondering.. hope you are able to fix it.. lovely poem 🙂
My family will likely do something rather low-key this summer. We were considering going on a bit of a trip (maybe to the Canadian Rocky Mountains), but can’t seem to make the finances make it work…so we’ll try to be tourists in our own province and see what gems we can uncover closer to home!
Godin/Seagull Guitars, Bryan? LOL I’d love to take their factory tour.
I find that proximity is often a blind spot for many of us… I hope you find something marvelous close by.
Hello! Everyone. I missed you all. May love, peace, & blessings be with you all. 🙂
I’m excited to read you all. 🙂
I’m excited to read you too… any new words today?
Yes, and its dark humor and funny. 🙂
You’ll like the title.
Hi everyone. Thanks for the inspirational Mary Oliver poem. I hope you don’t mind me sharing a poem that I submitted to a recent Poetry Society competition about ‘scent’, in which I refer to summer.
Open Link is open to any poetry… so no grudge… quite the opposite
Nice to see you again, Kim 🙂
Glad to be back, Sanaa xx
Ah — “seize the day” — good words for the poem I posted….although the actual “seizing” took place about 7 years ago 🙂
It’s a cool blustery day today in Boston. But summer is around the corner — we shall take a few days to drive up into the Berkshires — vist the Norman Rockwell Museum, Edith Wharton’s Mount estate, and the home of Herman Melville too — as well as revel in the green countryside and the stars we’ll be able to see! 🙂 Do miss the stars in Boston — cityscape obscures their shine.
Thanks for hosting, Bjorn. Shall get to my reading in the morn — with that fresh brewed coffee in hand! 🙂
Yes, seize the day has become such a duty sometimes… but I love it as it is.
So grateful to have dVerse right as distraction and balm. It’s been a tragic month of back-to-back funerals on my side of the pixeld. Slowly trying to get back into the swing of things again.
I’m so sorry for you… I hope poetry can give you some healing… glad to have you here.
I m so sorry to hear that Raivenne.. sending love and prayers your side..
Yeah! I linked up my late The Music In You offering that I missed out on Tuesday. I hope you like it. I do love to write songs although I can’t write music I’ve written words to other people’s music and consider it fun.
I don’t blame you for taking advantage of any warm weather Bjorn! Riding a bike is a great way to do so.
You know my plans, ride my bike and take walks. I am lucky to live in an area that is nice all year round but the drought is coming back and I worry about what that means for us. We had a short break but not enough to help on a long-term basis.
I hope everyone has a good faux Friday! Hugs! Bekkie
You are lucky with weather… but for me it would be very stressful… 🙂
The weather or living in this area?
The weather.. and having to seize the day… I need some melancholy layered with the joy… otherwise I will sink.
Lol! I hear ya. Hugs!
I have a poem I wrote and recorded outside. That would suit today I think. Nicely done Björn and very inspiring by Mary Oliver. She is not familiar to me except in here. I think it’s time to check her out.
So much to read!
I do look forward to read it… glad to have you here and with a reading too.
Thanks….I think I read yours last night late. So dreamy and provoking day-dreaming. So special too, the last lines just stayed with me.
Oh it’s almost dark now… and time to go to bed. I will do some reading tomorrow morning.
See you tomorrow Bjorn
Take care 🙂
Hi Bjorn – When I think of summer I think of water and the ocean. It seems to call me. So, I am posting a poem I wrote recently while away.
Me too, lots of water to cool the summer heat ~ I will be visiting in a bit ~
Good evening everyone. I posted a link to my first attempt at writing an ovillejo poem. I will be back to read a bit later.
Any poem is welcome Arcadia ~ Thanks for joining in ~
Hi,
linked a summery poem that I also meant to link to The Music in You, but missed the boat. The poem’s called “Missed” 🙂
Look forward to reading all the poems.
I will head over to read …
Sorry… just got a message that reminded me we only post one poem on these nights. So, I’ll behave and pull one. I’m not bad; I’m just written that way.
It’s just for open link we have that rule.. No problem Charley.
Ah, I did that several weeks ago too, Charley. No worries. Open Link time comes around often so you can save it up and post again! 🙂
PC offline for a few hours, but now back, so here I am! Cheers Bjorn and to all who tend the bar.
Kind regards
Anna :o]
Cheers Anna.. I have been offline for a while too…
Do so miss my lovely PC when it is offline. I feel part of my life has been taken away, so glad it is back!
Anna :o]
Saturday morning in Boston — shall meander over and so some reading again. Life gets busy and interrupts — always happy to return to the reading! 🙂 Happy weekend everyone.
Ah.. bar is closed… some cleaning up to do… Looks like we had a great few nights here… will just make a few final rounds and see if we had any late-comers.
