Hi everyone! Welcome to our OpenLinkNight ! This is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. Here is summer poem for all of you:
Bed in Summer
In winter I get up at night And dress by yellow candle-light. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day. I have to go to bed and see The birds still hopping on the tree, Or hear the grown-up people’s feet Still going past me in the street. And does it not seem hard to you, When all the sky is clear and blue, And I should like so much to play, To have to go to bed by day?
If you missed the announcement by Bjorn Rudberg last week about our plans for the dVerse Anthology, its here:
For each prompt and OpenLinkNight, the bartender will select a few poems and the bartenders will jointly select one poem that goes into the anthology. Therefore every linkup is a voluntary submission to the collection. Of course we will ask for permission before including any linked-up poem, and you should never feel that the link-ups become competitions. We will not do any announcements, but communicate privately. We expect to continue this throughout the autumn, and hopefully we can make this into a wonderful collection for you all.
To join us for Thursday’s OpenLinkNight, which happens every 2 weeks, here’s how to join:
See you at the poetry trail.
Hello and welcome to OLN!!!! Please have a seat, cool for awhile and read the poems with iced drinks !!!!
Happy Thursday to all!
Happy Thursday 🙂 good to see you Grace
Iced drinks would certainly be nice. 29 (celcius) here with the humidex. (That’s 84 F). Might not be that warm for some of our friends down in the southern states, but it’s HOT for here!
and we’re supposed to hit 34C/93F on the weekend. Thank goodness for AC!
AC is humming all day and night here. We are checking out the hiking trails this weekend. Enjoy our long weekend Byran.
Thanks! And you too!!
Thank goodness for A/C until you lose power like we did today.
Happy OLN everyone ❤
Good to see you Sanaa 🙂
Hi Grace! Thank you for hosting. I hope you are staying nice and cool. Althought farther up north, I don’t think you all are as hot as we are way down here. We had severe thunderstorms last night at midnight. Fierce. but cooler today. The high for today is only 97F with feels like 101. Not bad.
We had severe thunderstorms the past nights too so the heat is not so high, smiles.
But I am staying indoors most day and will only walk at night when its cooler. Keep cool too Toni!
No, prompt day today? yes! I can’t wait to link something special for everyone here on dVerse. 🙂
No prompt, no restrictions, smiles. Looking forward to it Charlie!
No. OLN is every other week. Enjoy!
Hi Charlie,
Please link a poem for Mr. Linky. Perhaps you can link a sample poem from your book. Thanks!!!
There. I just posted one sample poem from my first book. I’m #20 on the link.
Congrats on the published book Charlie. I will be deleting the other link (just 1 link for OLN), and that means you are now #18!
I’m off to work on canning tomatoes. I will be in and out to read and comment on poems. Y’all stay cool.
See you later Toni!
Cheers (so much) for hosting Grace. I have waited for OLN night for days, certain I have finally got my mojo back – and very excited about this. Hope it lasts…
Kind regards
Anna :o]
Every 2 weeks, OLN comes around, smiles.
I will be making my rounds when I come in a bit Anna. Thanks for joining us.
Happy Thursday and OLN, Grace! Thank you for being our hostess and keeping us refreshed with cool drinks. 🙂 It’s 104 F here today! I was shocked when I saw how hot it is…and that’s without the heat index factored in. Is it any wonder why Mira and I can’t go outside to play anymore? Yikes!
Too hot to play outside unless its by the pool or by water park 🙂
Stay cool with your dear Mira Gayle 🙂
She does get to go swimming regularly and to the water park too. She’s a self-taught swimmer…loves the water. Thanks, Grace. 🙂
OLN surprised me today. I’m glad it’s every 2 weeks. That way some of us kind of forget 😮 and have a pleasant surprise when it returns! Try to stay cool everyone! Gayle, I know what you mean, it’s even too hot to swim here. The pool is hotter than bath water.
🙂 I’ve been in water that warm before trying to cool off too…it doesn’t work! The Gulf coast waters here are like that because they’re so shallow. Often, they’re just too warm to be refreshing. Nice to see you, Dr. C.
Hello one and all…wishing everyone a good Thursday 🙂 Poppy
So happy you can join us Poppy 🙂
Hi Grace! Good evening and happy Open Link Night to one and all! It’s raining again in North Norfolk, England, and it’s dark already at 9.30. Reading your comments has brought me a ray of sunshine and I’m looking forward to reading your posts.
Hi Kim! I think we are having some rains too but not that much. Thanks for dropping by Kim.
Hi, Grace. I’m happy to be visiting the OLN again. Thanks so much for hosting!
Hi Steve!!! Thanks for dropping by at OLN.
So nice to be back for OLN where the gate are open wide and anything goes. Thanks for hosting Grace.
Hi Victoria ! I am back hitting the poetry trail now. That’s the fun thing about OLN – anything goes.
Very late to the party! I’ve been with my kids and grand kids all day – tomorrow too. Just posted my poem – will have to put in the dverse link tomorrow – my iPad won’t do it here. Will get to reading on Saturday. Tuning into the DNC now….history happening tonight!
Hi, Lillian. I was watching some of the DNC tonight too. I’ve been so inspired by much of what I’ve seen. Especially loved Michelle Obama’s impassioned speech earlier on!
I will truly miss this presidential family – such grace, compassion, thoughtfulness and care.
I will too; they are a wonderful family.
Popping in very late to add a little poem in memory of Viv Blake. I had written it earlier for Poetic Bloomings. Still vacationing with my grand daughter, but will be back in tomorrow to do some reading. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. 🙂
Enjoy your vacation and our long weekend Mish !
Good morning poets! I will be checking back throughout the day for poems.
Wishing you all a good Friday!!
Returning to the world of dverse after a long gap. Starting with the pleasure of Open Link Night. Look forward to an evening reading poems by fellow bloggers.
Welcome back Nimi!!!! OpenLinkNight comes around every other week.
Thanks Grace. I do plan to be around more regularly now.
Hello family, glad reading from you again after a long while. Work and school kept me away for some time. I hope to get back on track soonest. Love you all.
Thanks for dropping by! Hope you are doing well. Looking forward to your share.
I’m good. Thanks.
A day late, but nice to be here with my favorite poets! Thanks for hosting, Grace! Can’t wait to get started reading, y’all!
Good morrow, all! Or perhaps I mean good yesterday – as I am so late. Sharing something I have not tried before, which I think could not belong anywhere but an open link night. I had to play with it a long time before I thought it worked. 🙂
PS It’s late morning now, and so cold! I need to go have a hot shower and put some warmer clothes on. Count your blessings, all you gasping with heat!
Ah, wonderful and dreadfully sickly Robert Louis! I love his writing, and yet I only recently discovered his poetry. For anyone who enjoys outdoor/travel/adventure writing, let me recommend “Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes.” It is one of his earliest works – non-fiction – and so overwhelmingly good that John Steinbeck has it play a part in his novel “The Pastures of Heaven.” Anyway… I love that poem!
