Hi everyone! Welcome to our OpenLinkNight ! This is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. For those who missed the Mr Linky deadline the past week or this Tuesday’s poetics about “verbing”, this is also your opportunity to share your poem. I also want to remind you that our Haibun Monday is still open the whole week.
I am sharing a lovely poem by E.E. Cummings, which is beautifully read by Amanda Palmer (via Brain Pickings) – Humanity i love you.
Humanity i love you
because you would rather black the boots of
success than enquire whose soul dangles from his
watch-chain which would be embarrassing for both
parties and because you
unflinchingly applaud all
songs containing the words country home and
mother when sung at the old howard
Humanity i love you because
when you’re hard up you pawn your
intelligence to buy a drink and when
you’re flush pride keeps
you from the pawn shop and
because you are continually committing
nuisances but more
especially in your own house
Humanity i love you because you
are perpetually putting the secret of
life in your pants and forgetting
it’s there and sitting down
on it
and because you are
forever making poems in the lap
of death Humanity
i hate you
To join us for Thursday’s OpenLinkNight, which happens every other week, here’s how to join:
See you at the poetry trail. ~Grace~
Happy Thursday and OLN everyone!!!!
Hope you enjoy the reading of the poem today.
happy Thursday to you too Grace and everyone at the Poets Pub! It has been so cold here today I had to write a cold poem!
Happy Thursday with a capital ‘H’!
Hi Kim!!!! Cold here too and colder during the weekend….brrr….
Hope you keep yourself warm!
You too, Grace! I’m off to bed to keep warm. 🌞
Happy Thursday everyone and thank you for hosting tonight Grace! I have added a tanka I wrote a couple of days ago after hiking up to the Fyrish Monument.
Thanks for joining us Zenia. I can’t wait for spring so I can start hiking again.
I had forgotten how humane and funny ee cummings was. Getting colder here after 75 degree weather. Finally January returns. This OLN is the best thing going….in my generally ignored opinion. “Queen of Sheba” from my new book, is my submission today. Had to lighten up after this weekend.
Love the poem Jane…. and it is good to submit whatever you like…
Thank you, Bjorn! Appreciate the support….
Happy OLN everyone ❤️ sharing my poem “I Vary (Not)” thank you for hosting us Grace 🙂 good to see you!
Hello Sanaa good to see you again…
Great for supporting us always Sanaa ~
Happy Thursday everyone…on this cold grey day in Boston — but I am preparing for aquamarine waters and 70 degrees for a month in beautiful Bermuda starting Saturday. So I’ll look at the grey outside my window and smile.
Thanks for hosting, Grace. That’s a powerful reading – thanks for posting it!
Will be reading mainly tomorrow in the AM with my steaming elixir…for now, it’s back to organizing for packing 🙂
I am not envious at all (brrr) January is dark … and somewhat cold.
Enjoy your trip dear Lillian 🙂
I’m on my way home from a concert.. so grear to have oln again
Hey everyone…
Nice to join in OLN today though I am glad you can’t hear me coughing and sniffling.
Thanks for hosting, Grace. 🙂
It’s the season for that Mish… good to see you here.
Take care Mish ~ And we are going to get colder during the weekends, yikes ~
I’ve linked a poem I posted today, a circular poem which is (I think) a form of my very own invention. I’d be interested to hear what you think of the form.
Loved the form… and rhymeschemes are always fun… 🙂
I think so too 🙂
A pleasure to join OLN this afternoon. Thanks for hosting, Grace!
Great to have you here Steve.. long time since last on OLN.
Always a pleasure to see you Steve !
Happy Thursday! Can you believe it’s the last one of January already? I’ve posted my ‘verbify’ poem. It was fun to do. 🙂 Thanks for the prompts Grace and Lillian.
Verbs make all the difference.. so good to have OLN for catchin up.
Love the reading… when I finally came home and listened….
I am home now and will be hitting the poetry trail~ See you ~
I really like this part:
“i love you because
when you’re hard up you pawn your
intelligence to buy a drink”
Hello everyone. Will be reading some posts tonight.
Thanks for joining us ~
I posted one about donuts and coffee where the donuts might be like the humanity in the Cummings’ poem, however, I still love humanity and will not reject any donut.
Love your response Frank~
Happy Thursday, all! Than you Grace for hosting and for sharing that lovely poem. I always enjoy hearing a reading. I’m posting from my poetry blog, and am now using my name. You all have seen me as just Kay. Have a lovely evening!
💜Angela Kay
Happy that you liked the reading. Nice meeting and knowing you now as Angela.
So glad for you to share this milestone in your writing & blogging ~
Thank you! And a humbly sincere thank you for the inclusion in the Pub. It’s only been positive and helpful in the journey. 💜
After reading the poems from Tuesday I noticed a few people talking about the insanity going on right now in our country and the world so I posted “All Lives Matter.” It was my answer to one of the biggest problems we have with each other on this planet.
Have a nice weekend! I am a day late, ~sigh~
Hugs!
Thanks for visiting us Bekkie ~ Have a good weekend too ~
Thank you dear Grace for hosting and for sharing that lovely poem.
You are welcome and thanks for joining us ~
Reblogged this on ladyleemanila and commented:
share your poems 🙂
Sorry I cannot oblige with reading others’ poems at the moment but my contribution will explain things – good to be able to link up again though
Thanks, Grace. I loved reading this poem.
