Here’s welcoming you to the beginning of the week and, of course, to the dVerse Poets Pub, which is now open! It’s Kim from writinginnorthnorfolk.com bringing you the Quadrille, when we take any meaning of one word and transform it into 44 poetic words.
Today, as this year is the 50th anniversary of the release of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ by The Beatles, I would like you to write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting your title), including the word pepper.
Image found on Wikipedia
Pepper can be a noun meaning the fruit of a climbing plant that yields pungent aromatic spice or various pungent vegetables, such as the capsicum. It can be a verb, meaning to season with pepper, to sprinkle or dot, or to pelt with missiles. You could write about something that’s peppery or pepper-and-salt, or you could write about peppercorns, pepper mills or peppermint. Does anyone remember the children’s books about Mrs Pepperpot? Or you could take inspiration from the Beatles’ album.
Join us in celebrating one of the best-loved Beatles’ albums! Just be sure your 44-word poem contains some form of the word pepper.
Here’s how to Quadrille:
– Write a poem of exactly 44 words, including the word pepper.
– Put your poem on your blog and link back to this post.
– Link it up to our Mr. Linky.
– Visit other blogs. Enjoy some amazing poets. Comment. Come back later this week and write another one, and visit some more. Comment some more. Create as many poems as you please, including ones with all the words.

Hello everyone! Looks like our Quadrille prompt appeared a bit early today. Bar usually opens at 3 PM Boston time and it’s just a bit after noon. No matter….this is a FUN word and I’m sure Kim will join us in a bit.
Step right up to the pub and enjoy Quadrille Monday!
Very hot today in Boston. We leave in a bit to take a boat ride to see the Tall Ships (57 of them) that are here this week in Boston. Went to the Parade of Sails Saturdy to see them enter the harbor — MAJESTIC! Some with 4 and 5 mast…huge and many sails. I’ll chat a bit till we leave and return later this afternoon.

Thanks so much Lillian! I’ve been marking English exam papers like billy-oh and didn’t notice that the schedule went awry.

Hey, y’all. So the old boy’s fifty, huh? No, wait… it was twenty years before that he taught the band to play. Dang! He’s old! That calls for a drink.
frankhubeny said:
I am surprised it has been that long ago. Of course, I am surprised how old I am.
Charley said:
Everyone becomes amazed at how quickly life stalks them. “Do not go gently…”

Oh my land, Frank! Fifty? You’re just a wee lad 🙂

Hi y’all! Happy Monday & thanks to Kim for hosting. In honor of this hot topic, I’ll have a Spicy Old Fashioned with Ancho Reyes 😉 please.
frankhubeny said:
Whatever that is, I’m sure we can make it.
frankhubeny said:
I just clicked your link. I think it points back to this page. Could you link it again?
jillys2016 said:
Thanks! I fixed it – can you delete the first one?
frankhubeny said:
I liked that running straight into the train. I don’t know how to edit these, but I think someone more knowledgeable will be able to delete it. The important thing is that your link is now visible.

Done!

When the Pub opens early, after the shock, it is always so cool to write earlier in the day, & get out on the trail for reading & fellowship, These quadrilles are always a treat for me, the Viscount of Verbosity–a terrific exercise in brevity.
frankhubeny said:
I usually feel more inspired earlier in the day as well.
lillian said:
The Viscount of Verbosity? I thought you were the Roy Rogers/Gene Autry/Lone Ranger all combined in one, hangin’ out at the ranch 🙂

A head start. I also have so many possibilities going through my head with one almost ready to go. Will read what’s here first then work on mine. Fun word, Kim.

First of all, my humble apologies for the early post. I honestly don’t know what happened, as I scheduled it for the usual time. I can only guess that WordPress set me back to GMT and it was posted at three o’clock this afternoon Greenwich Mean Time rather than three o’clock Boston time (which should have been our eight o’clock this evening) – I’m getting myself in a muddle now!
Secondly, thank you so much to my fellow hosts on dVerse (Paul, Frank, Victoria, Lillian and Grace – I hope i haven’t left anyone out) for minding the bar for me.
I’m afraid I didn’t notice because I haven’t been paying attention to anything but the exam marking system all day, as I’ve been trying to keep up with my marking quota – difficult in the unusual heat we have at the moment. I’d better get reading!
lillian said:
Not to worry, Kim. All’s well and folks have really had fun peppering the bar with words today 🙂 Me thinks, after all that grading, you could use a Singapore Sling — full of lots of fruit juice, a bit of alcohol, and oh so refreshing! 🙂

PS: Did the prompt start early today?
kim881 said:
Hi Sanaa! Yes, I suspect the changes on WordPress set my schedule time back to GMT and, because I am in the middle of marking exams, I didn’t notice. It’s getting late over here now, so I am am ready for bed but I’ll be back early in the morning to read the rest of the wonderful Quadrilles that everyone is posting before I go back to marking. 🙂

I’ve been far too busy as of late…I haven’t posted any articles on my blog (let alone to dVerse) since the last Quadrille challenge. That’s one of the things that I love about the Quadrille…I can almost always find time to write 44 words 🙂

hhhh… so those of you who are midwesterners from the US, and Iowans in particular, do you think peppercorns grow in fields next to the grazing cattle? 🙂
lynn__ said:
😀 I doubt it but think the cattle would sneeze! Here’s an informative article on peppercorns (although I wrote about chile peppers):
