Welcome to poetics. ‘The times they are a changin’ sang the man once. Boy was he right. Tough out there right now huh? Wanna pull up a stool, have a drink and tell me all about it? Well I’m game but you know I think maybe we could do with taking a collective break. Let’s park the protests, the activism, the heavy load, the soul searching and the deep poems by the roadside for a night and go in search of a little MAGIC instead.

Whaddya say? Alakazam! Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!  Do you feel it? A tingle perhaps? Shazam! Any clearer yet?

Hey Presto. Here’s a poem by Shel Silverstein to help you along the way.

Magic

Read this to yourself.
Read it silently.
Don’t move your lips.
Don’t make a sound?
Listen to yourself.
Listen without hearing anything.
What a wonderfully weird thing, huh?

NOW MAKE THIS PART LOUD!
SCREAM IT IN YOUR MIND!
DROWN EVERYTHING OUT.
Now, hear a whisper.
A tiny whisper.

Now, read this next line in your best crotchety old man voice:

“Hello there sonny, does this town have a post office?”

Awesome! Who was that?
Whose voice was that?
Certainly not yours.

How do you do that?
How!?

Must be magic!!

So my poetic pals, your task if you choose to accept it, is to pen a poem using the word MAGIC in some form or write a piece that is quite simply MAGICAL. You know you can.

As always, link up your poem below and link back here to us at dVerse too. Please drop by to read and comment on other poets in the community who have left their wares for you to sample. A visit to a fellow poet is a drop of pure Hocus Pocus.

So without further ado here comes the Magic word to start us writing poems.

Open Sesame.

“The work of magic is this, that it breathes and at every breath transforms realities.” Rumi
