The superhero, Black Panther, is getting rave movie reviews. When I was young, I idolized the Lone Ranger. Today, Marvel characters such as The Hulk, Spider Man, and Thor have great mass appeal, as does Wonder Woman. Mythology’s Hercules, canonized saints like Joan of Arc and Mother Teresa, and people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr and Malia may also be considered superheroes. The term is also applied generically to people within groups such as first responders, fire fighters, and those who put others in front of themselves in emergency situations.
Change the words a bit and we can talk about having a super power: an extraordinary ability, capacity, or strength ~ or about being a super power.
My challenge for you today: think about these words – superhero, super power(s). Write a poem, any form and any length, about something or someone or some characteristic related to these words ~ perhaps imaginative, perhaps real. It can evoke an actual capacity/characteristic/person or something/someone historical, mythological, or imaginary. So — let your mind simmer on these words: superhero, super power(s). I’m looking forward to some super posts for this prompt!

Welcome to dVerse! Happy Tuesday, folks. I’m coming to you from St. George’s, Bermuda where the sun is shining and it’s 68 degrees, albeit a bit windy. I’ll take it over what’s happening in my hometown of Boston right now! They’re in the midst of a blizzard and expecting 12 to 23 inches of snow 😦
So — looking forward to some super posts today!
Step right up and have a libation….
A blizzard is worth avoiding although I do like a warm, soft snowfall. I should have something posted shortly. Thanks for hosting, Lillian!
Well a blizzard is definitely time to wrap up in an afghan with a good book and/or some good poets! 🙂
The bar is open!
Nice to see you Frank! I made it back from town to open the pub….am thankful you were willing to step in if it were not so.
A good one, Lillian. Hope you’re well? I’ve got some super power dreams to share…and look forward to reading more super poems.
Hello Vivian! Bring on those super power dreams — happy to see you on this Tuesday Poetics. 🙂
🙂
I hope you are enjoying sunny Bermuda, Lill! It’s getting cold here again and we expect more snow at the weekend. I’m going to post and disappear for about an hour but will be back to read!
Oh yes! Bermuda never disappoints! Glad to see you here, Kim.
We’ve been having 65/66° here since the beginning of the month so I ought to feel quite smug. Spring will kick in with cold though for a few days next week, just to remind us that spring is a fickle season.
…and that Old Man Winter doesn’t like to give up the ghost!
Nice to see you here, Jane.
Sorry not to bring the party spirit with me, but that’s life.
yep!
I’m on my way home from a fantastic playwright reading. I will try to get around to read the poems when I get home, but it’s getting late
Not a problem, Bjorn. Take it easy tonight and perhaps we’ll see you tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed the reading!
The reading was a play by Rajiv Joseph called describe the night… one of the actors was Fintan McKeown… but many other fantastic actors. I will definitely go to more readings… almost as good (or even better) than a real play. With every actor sitting on the stage you focused on the text and the voice rather than special effects and stage-sets.
Sounds like a very enjoyable evening!
Lost internet until now. Late and a skype call to make. I’ll pen and read tomorrow.
Will be happy to see you then!
Winds playing havoc with internet in our Bermuda rental. Back tomorrow AM to read and comment.
Leaving the porch light on – pub key is under the martini glass shaped outdoor rug. Help yourself to libations…do some super Imbibng of good words and I’ll be back in the AM!
Pub door is still open folks! I’ll be in and out….leaving the light on and libations on the bar so help yourself. Lots to read here and I’d love to see some more super posts!
Oh, an interesting prompt. I’ve helped myself to a lunchtime tipple, and I’m heading for a seat in the snug. I popped some cash in the honesty box, and enjoyed this super duper prompt.
Ah….just back from a Bermuda walk and so glad to find your note! Will get my reading glasses in a moment. So happy you made yourself at home😊🍷
Hi, Poets! Thanks, Lillian! I couldn’t resist this one—even a day late! 😆
Ah Frank….what’s a day or two between the super dVerse folk?? Glad to see you here. Just back from a Bermuda walk and shall grab my reading glasses in a super sec!😎
Sneaks in for a bite to eat at the pub
Caught ya! Glad you stopped by 😉
Now I’m finally ready to read poetry… sorry for being late
All is good……….some super posts here 🙂
I love the superhero theme. It’s fun to read the different poems — people took it in a lot of different directions.
Oh yes……..some suppresses here 🙂 Glad to see you at the pub!
Couldn’t resist this SUPER prompt, Lil. Drive-by poeming for now, but back to read tomorrow! 🙂
Drive-bys are always welcome! Glad to see you here 🙂 Reading again today from Bermuda where one minute today it’s cloudy and raindrops are fallin’ on my head….and when I come inside, then the clouds flit away and the sun is there. I’ll take these temps in the low 60s today rather than Boston’s foot of snow! Will mosey over to read again now.
When I come on Thursdays (I’m in the USA) the site doesn’t change until late Thursday. May I ask why? I suppose it’s because the person doing it is in another country? Anyway, waiting to write for Thursday this week so I’m happy!
Not sure I understand your question here? The site has new prompts Mondays (haibun or quadrille), Tuesday Poetics, and Thursdays (either Open Link-post 1 poem of your choice OR MTB? where a particular form is asked for). In all cases – Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the new prompt opens at 3:00 PM Boston,USA time. (I’m from Boston – so that’s the time I know. But, I’m currently in Bermuda for a month and here, the new prompt on those days appears at 4:00 PM Bermuda time because Bermuda is an hour ahead of Boston).
In terms of posting poems in reply to the prompt, which is done on Mr. Linky, the ending time for the prompt can vary. This Tuesday’s Poetics prompt — Super Me (as in the verb) — opened at 3 PM Tuesday, Boston time and Mr. Linky was available for posting until, I think, 1 PM today, Thursday.) Hope this explanation helps.
Just the time difference. Thank you for the schedule though I made note of it. I appreciate your explanation. That makes sense then, Boston at 3pm. Now I know what time to expect it here in CA. So jealous of you in Bermuda, I can only imagine the bike riding there. Thanks again!
