Greetings, poetical peeps! De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) here. It’s Quadrille Monday again (my favorite!), when we write poems of exactly 44 words each, including a specific word provided. Today, I want you to muse upon the word muddle:
Use it as a noun, verb or adjective (or abuse it as adverb of your own invention). Invent a superhero (or supervillain!) named The Muddler. Muddle up a poetic cocktail of words with a little lime. Note how adorably it rhymes with cuddle, puddle and befuddle.
If the word still leaves your brain a bit muddled, don’t leave befuddled! Just chop it up and say “my name is mud”…and write us something mud-luscious as spring. Using some semblance of the word, in exactly 44 words, is the thing – and you’ve got this!
{I love this quote! But don’t write us a novel. 44 words only! ;)}
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Pen us a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting the title), including some form of the word “muddle.” Hook it up to Mr. Linky below, and then head out into cyberspace to huddle up with some amazing poets as you read their work. The prompt is open all week, so muddle all you want and come back for more!
Now, what can I pour you?

Hellooooo, fine poets! How goes your Monday? I am muddling up a fantastic batch of mojitos as we speak (some non-alchoholic, for those of us still in the throes of the working day.) Enjoy! And happy poeming!
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Hello De, can you muddle some lime and mind and make me Mojito…
whimsygizmo said:
Ha! Waaaaaay ahead o’ ya, Sir! 🙂 Cheers!
whimsygizmo said:
And yes, I think I shall add mint AND mind. 😉
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Maybe we should start with some mintfullness
sounds so refreshing….
whimsygizmo said:
Mmmmm. Mintful thinking, that. 🙂
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
Befuddled my mind

My name is mud

and lines.

Hi De! I’ve never had a mojito, so a non-alcoholic one for me, please! I need something to perk me up after spending the whole day catching up with exam stuff and a bit of spring cleaning, which can only be done when my husband is away, otherwise he just messes it all up again!. I’ll be off to bed early tonight, so I might not be around for long. However, I will be back early in the morning. Love the prompt word! 🙂
whimsygizmo said:
Hi, Kim! One particular line of your piece is gonna stick with me all day. Thank you for that! Wishing you a relaxing evening after your busy day! Lime, mint, simple sugar, soda water and love coming your way.
kim881 said:
Thank you, De! I’ll be off soon. Night night!
Frank Hubeny said:
Thanks for hosting, De! I muddled one together somehow.
whimsygizmo said:
As usual, Frank, your use of rhyme is as refreshing as these mojitos. Cheers!

I’ve played fast and loose with muddle so I might do another one. Nothing alcoholic for me, I’ve already had supper.
whimsygizmo said:
Hi, Jane! Heading over now! Glad you’re here!
Jane Dougherty said:
I’ll try again for something more muddled 🙂
whimsygizmo said:
Anybody wanna get silly with me? I’ve linked up with a second offering, an invitation of sorts. 😉 Muddle as many Q’s as you please today. I shall drink them all in.
Björn Rudberg (brudberg) said:
I might take on my wellies and muddle the puddles…. tomorrow.
whimsygizmo said:
I freakin’ love the word “wellies.” And also galoshes. 😉
whimsygizmo said:
Well now you’ve done it. A third poem accidentally spilled out, thanks to your comment. 😉

I love all of these quotes. I’m glad the word is “muddle” for my first attempt at a quadrille.
whimsygizmo said:
Yay! So glad you’re here! The quadrille has become a favorite for many of us. Have fun! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
merrildsmith said:
I don’t usually post twice in one day, but this came to me while I was pretending to work, so what could I do? I might as well have a mojito, too. 🙂
Thanks for the fun prompt, De.
whimsygizmo said:
You got it, merril. I love it. This word wants to be a thousand poems.
Laura Bloomsbury said:
nothing like a mix-up of cocktails – so hot here popped in for a daiquri at our local bar and found some inspiration in 44. Delicious prompt De

Delicious poem, Laura. You took me there. Such an inspiring walk in the garden.

Well, I made it in, but some very strange things are happening with our phone line, so I don’t know how much reading I’ll be able to do. We are intermittently cut off from civilisation.
whimsygizmo said:
Glad you’re here, Sarah, however briefly. Cheers!

FUN! Thank you.
