Whasssssssssssup, Poets?
(Apologies for that. I couldn’t help myself.)
De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo, and it’s time for my fave, the Monday Quadrille, a jaunty little poem with only two rules: exactly 44 words (not including the title), and using one word we provide.
This week’s word is our tiniest yet. Today, I want you play with the word “up.” Noun, verb, adverb, adjective…this wee word is versatile, and can be tossed into the mix in so many ways.
Upward. Upside-down. Upstart. Upbringing. Uprising. Up to date. Up in smoke. Up in the air. Shut up. Grow up. Put up. Show up. Throw up. Up the ante or your game. Just…
Put it in a form, or play with rhyme (or not). The rest of the “rules” are completely up to you. Just be sure to cook us up a poem of exactly 44 words, including some form of the word up. Get creative with parentheses and hyphens if you’d like, or make up your own up-word, but please be sure the word up is in there somewhere. Link it up by clicking Mr. Linky below. Then look up the work of some amazing poets right here at the bar, read and comment. The prompt is open for the whole week, so remember to come back and read (and write!) some more! Now, onward and upward…
{This made me laugh out loud.}
{This movie always makes me smile. And sob.}

Wassssssup, intrepid poets? Thanks for bellyin’ up to the Bar with me today. I’m cutting thick slices of pineapple upside-down cake, and pouring 7-up, 7&7s, and anything anybody else wants.
Happy Poeming! Making my rounds and writing my own, soon.

Awww. Sorry, Kim. Hope everything is okay.

Hi De and All. I love the up-beat presentation of up. The Bud commercial cracks me up not only with the wassup! s but the monster cell phones. Do you mind pouring me a 7&7? I usually don’t do them but it sounds good this afternoon. Let’s partay!

Hi there! Absolutely! So glad you’re here. Cheers!

There are ups and there are downs, and there are facts and there are those who prefer they be kept from being found …
Granted, this one of mine is a bit of a downer entry on an up prompt … but perhaps if enough of us will take up the cause, things will look up …

Yes! Shel Silverstein! Can’t believe I forgot my credit caption. Have fixed it. Thank you! 🙂
lifelessons said:
I bet a bunch of people thought you were just brilliant! Ha.
whimsygizmo said:
Nah. Shel’s pretty recognizable. Still a bum move on my part. Thanks so much for the reminder. On my original doc, I had it labeled, but when I cutty-pasted, I missed it.

I’m so behind in my work–especially after April’s NaPoWriMo–but I wanted to thank you for hosting. This is such a fun prompt! I wasn’t sure if I’d have time to read, so I didn’t post for it, but we’ll see. . . 🙂
whimsygizmo said:
Merril, thanks so much. I know exactly what you mean. I hope you’ll find time to write something, and perhaps just do reciprocal visits. I would hate for us all to miss out on one of your awesome pieces.
