Hello and welcome to the one and only Quadrille prompt, an original poetic concoction, created and served up here at the dVerse Poets Pub! Simply write a poem consisting of 44 words, not including the title. There is no specific form or topic required. Your poem MUST contain the given word or some form of the word.
I’ve been keeping an eye on my freckles. Yes, that’s what I said. My job takes me outside with little shade for two or three hours per day, building sandcastles, setting up water-play activities, blowing bubbles, feeding the birds, running from fence to fence if only to release energy (their energy.) It’s a playground full of sun-loving toddlers, carefully lathered in SPF 50, complete with floppy unicorn and Paw Patrol hats. Most of the time, in the hurry and flurry of it all, I neglect or forget to protect my own fair skin. So yes, I’ve been keeping an eye on my freckles.
That is your word. Use it as a noun, verb, adjective…
freckled, freckly, freckling, freckle-faced
Could you un-freckle? How about the image of being freckle-fisted? Can you find the freckles in nature?
Have fun with the word.
Of course you don’t have to actually write a poem about freckles….but you can.
Here’s how to join in:
- Write a quadrille as described above. Post it on your blog or website.
- Enter your name and direct link to your poem in Mr. Linky.
- Remember to check the box re: privacy policy.
- Follow the links to other poets. Read and comment. Come back to read more as the prompt is open all week.
- Link back to dVerse so others can find us too.
- Drop in to say hello in our discussion below.
- Have fun!

Good evening all! I never used to have freckles, but I have discovered some on my arms. Is it to do with age? When I was younger I wanted some on my nose and my wish was never granted. Thank you for this fun and sunny prompt, Mish!
Hi Kim 🙂
I am not sure but my arms have become more freckly as well. How adorable to wish for nose freckles. Thanks for joining in.
🙂
TeeHee…welcome to my world. They are keratoses, I think. Lay term used to be liver spots.
Hi Mish and All. Mish you created such a wondrous vision of the wee ones running about with their hats on. Freckles you want, freckles you shall have!
Hi Jade…I picture you waving a magic wand as freckles fall from the sky. Thanks!
🙂 They make a great tea.
Colorful tea yes, but technically a little flat.
I’ve never had freckles – only now as I have gotten older do I have a very few on my hands. Age! Thank you for this wonderful prompt!
Hi Tony, thank YOU for joining in. I think I have those age freckles too. Oh well, let’s call them speckles of wisdom. 🙂
I like it!
Ok Mish, this should be fun! I LOVE freckles, been freckled all my life. Yours are great! Do not fear the freckle! I’d been kicking around a poem and a pic this weekend, and the term you used in here, “freckle-fisted” opened the door wide open for me. Thanks, and thanks for a cool prompt.
Freckles, and piercing blue eyes — beautiful!
Rob, I should have put the image credit directly underneath. (pixabay.com) rather than at the bottom of the post. The beauty up there is not me. I couldn’t resist using that photo for the prompt. Such amazing freckles and eyes. Thanks for joining in! 🙂
C’mon Mish… I bet it was you. 😉
Love this word for a prompt, Mish! I had some fun with it. Thanks for hosting!
Delighted to be back in the swing of the pub.
Always a pleasure, Lil. Glad you had fun. Will be by to read a bit later. 🙂
Nice word, Mish. I hadn’t thought of freckles before. Also, nice poem by atticus.
Hi Frank 🙂 Yes, I just discovered atticus. Very intriguing Canadian poet. A masked poet with a huge following.
What a fun word – freckles. Thanks for hosting Mish.
Hi Grace…happy to host. 🙂 Hope you’re staying out of the rain today.
Hello Mish ands fellow poets- a fantastic prompt and thanks so much for hosting! Franck’s right, it is a great word.
Aww thanks, Linda. I’m hoping it is used in many different ways. 🙂
That was insanely fun. Thanks!
Hi Phillip. Thanks for participating. So glad you enjoyed it.
I was a freckle-y child and now have 2 freckle-y children. I love them! Thank you for such a great word.
Just to give my dVerse friends a heads up, I’m on the hunt for poems…https://fmmewritespoems.wordpress.com/2019/07/29/poetry-call/
you all are some of the loveliest poets I know!
Hi Sarah. 🙂 I think freckles are beautiful!!!
An apology, too – I’m too tired to read tonight, will be back tomorrow…
No worries…another good thing about the quadrille is more time to write and read. 🙂 Have a restful night.
LOVE this word, Mish. Thanks for the inspiration after a long writing drought. Back later today to read. De.
So happy to help, De!! I had a feeling you’d like the word. 😉
Ah! I adore freckles! (have a fair share of them myself, even if the dermatologist of late likes to pluck some of them outta’ me when they decide to go ‘south’ or she worries they might …). Here’s my little ode-to-the-freckled… (left it with the linky-thingy, too, of course!) 😉

Na’ama
Hi Na’ama. Thanks for linking up your poem. Will be out on the poetry trail soon to read. 🙂
🙂 Thank you! 🙂 Hope you enjoy it!
I could not find the linky, dear. so here is my poem for this challenge. It was fun. Thanks for hosting! http://jellicoswritingnook.home.blog/2019/07/29/fickled-freckled/
Mr. Linky is at the bottom of the prompt, immediately after the instructions on how to join in. There is a white bar. If you have trouble, I’d be happy to link up your poem for you.
I’m sorry, I can’t see it. Would you be so kind, this time. I’ll have hubby look and see if he can see it, might just be my eyes.
Done! 🙂
Hellooo poets! Home from a rainy drive, but we definitely needed it today. It was a hot one (heat warning!).
thank you Mish! I looked at that word and said, really? Freckles? And then this little guy landed on my garden wall. https://xanhaiku.wordpress.com/2019/07/29/rain/
Haha! Can’t wait to read. Will be by soon. 🙂
Freckles bring out the summer in our skin – love yours! Found a way to weave this one – finally – by keeping it simple
Hi Laura…oh those are not my freckles, but an image from unsplash.com. I put the credit at the bottom of the page. Thanks for joining in! 🙂
I meant all your freckle picks of pics & verse
“Freckles bring out the summer in our skin…” Fabulous Laura!
I noticed them quite a lot more as a kid. This can be such an exceptionally nice prompt.
Hi Larry…yes I think they are a nostalgic part of childhood summers. Freckles, popsicles and bare feet!
Excellent! Need a boost this week, here is my take. https://wideeyedwanderingspoonie.wordpress.com/2019/07/29/hope-and-freckles-a-quadrille/
Great! Will be by soon to read. Thanks for linking up. 🙂
Thanks for hosting, Mish. I enjoyed this! 🙂
Glad you did! Thanks for joining in. 🙂
I love this, Mish. I had freckles as a kid but my rather whimsical poem is a memory of a boy in grammar school. The story is fictional.
Hi Victoria! Can’t wait to read.
Thanks for hosting, Mish. I was doing a care-taking slot at my mom’s yesterday. This is such a fun word. I hope I can find some time to join in!
Thanks Mish.
Perfect prompt for a Quadrille Mish. Spot On! Thanks! 😉
