I’m Kim from Writing in North Norfolk, sitting in for Mish and welcoming dVerse poets to the first Quadrille of November 2019, when we take any meaning of one word and transform it into 44 poetic words.
The word today is ‘keep’, usually a verb meaning to retain possession of something or someone; to store, cause to continue, take charge of, maintain or detain; to reserve, remain or continue.
As a noun, it means living, support, charge or care and, for those of us who enjoy a good story, the central tower of a castle or a stronghold. In addition, one can be a keeper, we can be in keeping, and we can have keepsakes.
One poem I found which includes the word ‘spark’ Is ‘Not to Keep’ by Robert Frost.
‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling begins with the lines:
‘If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you”.
You can read the whole poem here.
I rather like ‘The Keeper of Light’ by Michele Wolf.
And here are the Supremes:
This week I’d like you to take any meaning, form or compound of the word keep, and write a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting your title), including the prompt word.
Here’s how to Quadrille:
– Write a poem of exactly 44 words, including the word keep.
– Put your poem on your blog and link back to this post.
– Link it up to our Mr. Linky.
– Don’t forget to check the little box to accept use/privacy policy
– Visit other blogs. Enjoy some amazing poets. Comment. Come back later this week and write another one, and visit some more. Comment some more. Create as many poems as you please. The Quadrille lasts all week, so keep coming back for more!

Good evening all! It’s a cold night here in North Norfolk, which is appropriate for Bonfire Night, which takes place tomorrow. I hope you are all snug and warm, wherever you are. Liqueur coffee and hot chocolate is available, with the liqueur of your choice: an Irish coffee, one with a shot of Tia Maria or Baileys, perhaps. I’ll keep seats warm by the fire, ready for your quadrilles this November night.
Hello KIm- Thanks so much for hosting! Great word today…
Thanks for being here, Linda! I’m glad you like the prompt word.
Be not alone. Ai belive people who asks for a quadrille are excellent people, since, in fact, aI have no idea of what a quadrille is, and get untalented touchy, and devastatingly creative, so aI believe aI, by Christ, am about to make the poem of all times. And, that poem by Kipling is nice. And, God damned it, that video, we should have been alarmed many a decennium ago. How stupid can one get …
Smiles!

Nice prompt, Kim. It’ll keep us coming back for more, that’s for sure! Hope all is well over there in the East. We’re stuck in at Atlantic low, it’s been raining for days. I just lost a shoe in the mud when I went to put out the recycling…
Thank you, Sarah! We’ve had rain on and off, too. The builders are still here and traipsing in mud mixed with plasterboard dust. At least the stairs are in and the plasterboard is up. Plastering to be done, then the electrics, and finally the floor and skirting boards. I’m leaving the painting until after Christmas.
Did you get your shoe back out of the mud?
I had to scrabble round in the Dark. Most undignified.
I’m undignified pretty much most of the time!

Hello Kim and All. Irish coffee sounds perfect! So chilly here today. Your prompt got my imagination going, and I tried using more symbolic words and images this time.
I’m looking forward to reading it , Jade.

Kim, an intriguing prompt. I will sleep on it. As always I appreciate reading what others share and being a part of this party of poets.

I liked the prompt, Kim. I must’ve had a brain blip when I entered it first. Took me a while to realize I’d done something wrong. I just corrected it, but don’t know how to remove the first screw-up. Can you remove it for me or tell me how to remove it, please?
I’m so pleased you like the prompt, Bev. I’ll delete the first link for you.
Done!

A little late to the party this week. That’s because I was _at_ a party, namely my son’s wedding, from which I’m still recovering! Hope everyone enjoys not just this one, but all the wedding poems, because man it’s a moment for a poet, when your son gets married.
A lovely reason to be a little late, but that’s not a problem as the prompt is open all week. I hope you had a wonderful time. I too wrote poetry poetry when my daughter for married, the perfect theme for poems.

I really like the format of the quadrille. It forces you to really weigh every word.
I will keep coming back for more prompts and more poetry to read and learn from.
The quadrille is every second Monday. I look forward I seeing you there.

Hi all, Not been with you for some time after lots of health issues for myself and my daughter. My quadrille today speaks of yesterday’s episode. Now to read you all and have a catch up. Good wishes all.
I hope you and your daughter are feeling much better. So pleased that you visited the poets pub today.
Thanks Kim. Good to be with you. My daughter came home from hospital yesterday so another step forward in her very slow recovery.
Whoops! Forgot to stick my head in when I shared my link yesterday! Thanks, Kim, for the inspiring prompt!
