Welcome to OpenLinkNight everyone! As we are freezing cold here in Canada, I am happy to serve you warm chocolate or apple cider with slice of fresh bluebery pie, as we read and celebrate the poems you have shared.
As you know OpenLinkNight is your opportunity to link 1 poem of your choice as this is no prompt-day. For those who missed the Mr Linky deadline this Tuesday’s poetics about “What day is it anyway?“, or any poetry prompts that you have missed in the past, this is the opportunity to share your poem. Out of courtesy, please link back to dVerse Poets Pub if you are sharing your poem.
Here is a poetry reading of My Skeleton by Jane Hirshfield
My skeleton,
you who once ached
with your own growing larger
are now,
each year
imperceptibly smaller,
lighter,
absorbed by your own
concentration.
When I danced,
you danced.
When you broke,
I.
And so it was lying down,
walking,
climbing the tiring stairs.
Your jaws. My bread.
Someday you,
what is left of you,
will be flensed of this marriage.
Angular wristbone’s arthritis,
cracked harp of ribcage,
blunt of heel,
opened bowl of the skull,
twin platters of pelvis—
each of you will leave me behind,
at last serene.
What did I know of your days,
your nights,
I who held you all my life
inside my hands
and thought they were empty?
You who held me all my life
inside your hands
as a new mother holds
her own unblanketed child,
not thinking at all.
To join us for Thursday’s OpenLinkNight, here’s how to join:
See you at the poetry trail. ~Grace~

Good evening… it seems hard for me to have time for poetry. I have worked every evening this week… maybe being busy is a good thing.
Grace said:
Busy weeks for me as well Bjorn. Plus having a slight pain in the wrist does not make it easier. Hope time will be easier for us working peeps.

Happy OLN everyone and thank you for hosting tonight Grace! I’d love some hot chai if you have any, it’s getting cold here now after a bright clear Winter’s day. I’ve linked up a tanka from earlier today and will swing by in a moment to read xxx

Good evening poets, and thank you, Grace, for hosting and sharing the Jane Hirshfield poem, which I enjoyed very much. Although we had bright sunshine all day, it is very cold this evening. I am glad to say we now have lights on the stairs and in the dining room and, hopefully, heat in my study, but I won’t find out about the heat until the morning as it comes from an overnight storage heater. I have a rug on my knees to give me some heat. Hot chocolate and pie would be very welcome, Grace, thank you!

I envy you for your bright bit of sunshine Kim. Take care, keep warm and cheers to a lovely weekend.

Hello dVerse Poets! Thank you for hosting, Grace. No need for hot chocolate for me…it was 85 here today with rain expected tonight. I really enjoyed Jane Hirshfield’s poem and thoughts on how we can use poetry to examine things we often never think about. Gayle xoxo
Grace said:
Hi Gayle. So glad you can join us. Well your part of the world is warm so that must be lovely when we are all cold here. Have a good weekend.
Bodhirose said:
Actually, I wouldn’t mind having a cold spell and even see some snow again some day. I hope you have a good weekend too, Grace, and that your wrist pain eases. xo

Hello Grace and poets, it is in the high 80’s here in Malaysia, seasonably warm for the Lunar New Year but I am one who loves the cold so a warm drink is always welcomed. Love your poem share, the skeleton of our framework and make up, I enjoyed dissecting the lines and metaphors. I would like to share something I wrote last November, on a cold spring evening, the vibes of a city inspired this. Thank you.
Grace said:
Hello Gina. So lovely of you to join us and I hope you are all healthy and enjoying the lunar new year.

Hi Grace, and everyone! Thanks for hosting, Grace. It’s cold and rainy here today. I’m about to get dinner ready, so maybe I’ll go right to a glass of wine now. 😉
Grace said:
I am just hitting the trail now Merril. I will join you for that glass of wine as I leisurely read the poems. Enjoy the rest of the week.

Hello Grace and et al poets. Open Link has caught me on another barely-snowy day so I’ll pair that blueberry pie with a coffee and Bailey’s, if that’s okay!

Great choices! Enjoy the offerings for tonight. Thank you for joining us.

Hello Grace and everyone else. I posted something I wrote earlier this week. I’ll be back later to read. Now it’s time to pull the infected tooth, one of my reasons for sleeping so bad.

Hope you feel better. Have a good weekend.

I think it is cold everywhere. It was cold when I left Mexico three days ago and even colder when I stepped off the plane in Arizona. Been wearing three or four layers ever since I got here!
Grace said:
I didn’t know that. Hope you are keeping warm and cozy.

At times. But at times I’m shivering.

I almost forgot it was OLN this week! But I didn’t miss the boat entirely. Today I’m sharing a villanelle, thankful for dVerse Poets Pub for teaching me this wonderful poetry form. Unfortunately, I can’t link to dVerse from that poem because it was submitted to another blog and I don’t have the ability to edit once I submit my poem there.
Grace said:
Would love to read it Linda. Thanks for the lovely note.
