Lillian here, delighted to host Open Link Night!
FIRST a reminder! June 24th Bjorn will host OLN LIVE beginning at 3 PM EST. It’s a wonderful time to log on and connect faces and voices with the writers you’ve been reading here at dVerse. Everyone is welcome! You can read aloud a poem of your choice and/or simply sit in and listen and watch others read. We’re a friendly bunch and do a bit of chatting too! Hope to see you there!
SECOND: a reminder that after our LIVE OLN on June 24th, dVerse will take a summer hiatus and return on Monday, July 12th. The dVerse pub will close its doors – and who knows? Maybe there will be a bit of remodeling….new bar stools? Repairs on the roof? Oh . . . I forgot . . . it’s a virtual pub . . .
. . . but now that I’ve mentioned remodeling . . . my husband and I are in the midst of planning a major bathroom remodeling project! We’ll rip out the tub; add a walk-in shower; raise the ceiling; new everything. I’m thinking we should head to our favorite place, Provincetown, when the contractor does the major demolition. This looks pretty good, right?

So as we’ve been visiting plumbing supply stores and tile showrooms, it strikes me there’s major remodeling happening everywhere!
Suddenly many of us have the option of taking off our masks and remodeling our behaviors. Remember when we remodeled our behaviors in March of 2020 when the pandemic hit? Many started working from home in comfy clothes on the bottom with semi-professional clothes on top as we zoomed office calls and meetings. Some faced suddenly having children home all day and helping them learn how to manage on-line classes. Even figuring out how to get groceries caused us to remodel our behaviors! And now, as vaccinations become more prevalent in some parts of the world, we’re figuring out how to remodel our behavior again. To mask or not to mask? To attend a movie or not? To eat at a restaurant indoors or outdoors? And those of us fortunate enough to live where the pandemic is beginning to markedly slow down, think about those in other countries where Covid rages on. We think about those who have lost someone to Covid and how they were forced to adjust to a new emptiness in their lives. Oh yes, lots of remodeling happening everywhere.
So let’s get on with OLN at dVerse! New to dVerse or need a refresher? Here’s what to do:
- Remember, everyone can post ONE poem of their choosing. No particular format, topic, etc.
- Post the poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- Remember to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoet.com)
- If there is no Tag or link back to dVerse, I will gently remind you to add it or I will have to remove it from Mr. Linky. Sorry to be so harsh . . . but this is just part of the requirements. AND it will bring you more readers and lead more folks to dVerse so they can participate as well.
I look forward to reading lots and lots of posts over the next few days here at OLN.
Hello dVerse folks! It’s a beautiful day in Boston and I just returned from a 3.8 walk along the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Lots of beautiful public art displays and the flowers are beautiful right now! Looking forward to reading all your posts today….should be a diverse lot to read given it’s Open Link Night!
New fridge, new carpeting, deck refinishing …. all happening in Bend. I will have a Woodford / neat please. LOL
Nice to see you Helen! That’s lots of remodeling!!! 🙂 Libation on the bar for you.
Good evening Lillian and all.
Without knowing about your remodeling, my poem is about inner remodeling of sorts. 🙂
Otherwise I’ve felt the whole time since the pandemic hit has been a sort of personal remodeling. From work habits, to social habits, to writing habits, everything really. And now, if we are going into endemic phase there will be more remodeling to suit the “new normal”.
Exactly! That’s what struck me too. I am also reminded though of something a friend said to me when I was having some medical issues and having to adjust my life accordingly: “Normal is only a setting on a dryer.” That puts it all in perspective, right?
I think remodelling has to wait… everyone is doing it right now, so it’s very difficult to find contractors. As for myself, I hope to keep a few of the good things we’ve been given and go back to the old ways where it makes sense.
Oh yes, I do understand. Although we’ve now picked out our tile, vanity, flooring etc….we must wait until end of summer or beginning of fall for our contractor to begin. As you’ve said, many many people have done remodeling since they’ve been in their houses and contractors are booked for sure.
Good evening! I’m happy to say I have no urge to re-model! No dust, no mess, no noises for me! Lovely to see you here, though. Something long and cold – it’s muggy here and it needs to rain itself out.
Oh yes….there will be much dust and much mess but it will be worth it in the end! 🙂
A cold gin and tonic on ice coming up! So good to see you here, Sarah.
Hello Lillian and All. There is a lumber and remodeling supplies shortage in MI that doubles the cost of any project right now, so it’s not on table for me in any near future. One local credit union has a sweepstakes (free, enter once per day) to win a $50,000 (i.e. $25,000) prize. Sounds like a lot to get excited over with your total re-do of the bathroom. I’m already sipping lemonade after a delicious strawberry-blueberry smoothie earlier. Will be back later or tomorrow to read most posts. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Nice to see you here! Ah…..I don’t think the supplies are up in cost…it just takes longer to get the contractor. We will actually start the project in late summer or early fall. Good to see you here today!
Thank you for the welcome, Lillian. I keep hearing about it in Michigan but in MA it may be different.
I had to remodel my life a year ago, when I started working from home. I had to turn my personal desk into a working desk with multiple monitors, headset, better internet speed and learn new software, it’s been crazy. I feel comfortable now and I really do not want to return to the office. Life is easier no bumper to bumper traffic is a big plus.
Happy Thursday as they say here “Thirsty Thursday” ha what is the cocktail of the day?
Gin and tonic — on ice or a marguerita with or without salt are the two specialties of the day.
Good to see you here! 🙂 And oh yes…I think many feel as you do dreading that commute back to work.
Hi Lillian, Hello all. I reached back only a couple weeks to a piece I never originally posted on d’Verse. It is one of my SciFi pieces. It is born in my continued deep frustration regarding human abuse of the earth —human arrogance and stupidity. This is a remodeling that is way overdue — and msy be too late!?
Rob: Hope you read this. I adored your piece BUT at the end of it it said something like CLosed for comments. I put a comment on a previous poem to let you know as well. Hope you can change that as I’m sure many will want to comment to it….brilliant piece of writing…could be the basis for a movie or tv series!
Thank you so much Lillian! 👍 I have rectified the error. Comments are now open… 🙂
I keep waiting for the Star Trek ships to return and save us from ourselves. This is similar, and maybe what it would take. Sadly. (I couldn’t leave a comment on your post, Rob.)
I have a remodeling business (more like house flipping), so I don’t need any extra at this time. However, in the spirit of things, I’m going order up a Screwdriver here at the bar.
🤣
Clever clever order indeed! Actually I’ve created a signature cocktail for the evening called the hammer – but it is not for the weak of heart 🙂 Good to see you here!
Hello Lillian and fellow poets! I think I am ready to take a break, but the question is, will I be able to? In the meantime, I look forward to reading some fine poetry!
Oh I totally understand that question, Ingrid. Although dVerse will be on hiatus soon, I suspect I’ll still be posting to my blog – not every day but I’m sure in the early mornings when I write, something will come up to post. I’m an early riser, between 5:30 and 6:30 AM, with no alarm. My husband doesn’t get up until 9 or later so this is when I do my journal writing and, being hones, the crossword in our newspaper! 🙂
I’m an early riser also, but so are my whole family now 😅 I read and write when I can!
Hi Lillian and All–No real remodeling going on here–though both of my children did lots of it over the past year.
I linked my Monday Morning Musings from this week. Some may already have read it..
It’s been hot and humid here, but it turned out to be lovely this afternoon. We”l be going out later, so I’ll catch up with reading tomorrow.
Nice to see you Merril. Hot and humid for the past 4 days in Boston and finally today, the weather broke and we have a cool breeze with no humidity. It’s heavenly!
I relate to the idea of emotional remodeling as I transition to see more people in person. I am reflecting on what has and hasn’t worked well for me in the past year. Being a part of this writing community is definitely a positive I will keep. Reading poetry and writing poetry with people around the world was a definite plus for me during the pandemic. Thanks for the opportunity you provide here. I appreciate all of the hosts.
Ah Ali…..dVerse has been a blessing to me as well. I so enjoy stepping up to the bar at that virtual pub for poets around the globe. And the OLN LIVE sessions are amazing. I was a bit fearful at first….but it’s just as friendly as the virtual pub and so fun to see everyone….and to hear voices from around the world! Hope you’ll stop by for that!
I have it on my calendar. Thanks for the heads up.
Stepping out of the pub for a bit….leaving the door ajar so help yourself to libations! I shall return 🙂
Sadly, a work meeting was just today scheduled for that last Live OLN time of the season, which I was determined to finally be at. I literally gave that time slot as the ONLY black out, but everyone else liked it best. Sigh.
Drats! Well….let’s hope August or September will work for you for our LIVE OLN. We do once a month….so eventually it should work out, right? Glad to see you here tonight though.
Okay….closing up the pub for the night….as I was up at 5 AM and I’m a bit bleary-eyed. But as always, the key to the pub is under the flower pot to the right of the door. Come on in and help yourself to libations…..the cooler is full and the shelves are stocked with wines and liquors – you’re sure to find something. All I ask for a tip is that you leave some words behind….a poetic post I can read in the morning.
On your way out, do put the key back so others can find it.
Back in the AM with hot black coffee in hand!
Hi Lillian, hello everyone. My remodelling took the form of a new driveway. Quite a few people on my block seem to be all in with the digging up and redoing🙂.
A bathroom remodel, try not to think too much about the dust but rather the finished product. Everything brand spanking new🙂
Thanks for hosting.
Pat
Thanks Pat, nice to see you here!
Best wishes for the remodelling Lillian, I have enjoyed/endured two of those 🙂 and come out smiling. I’ll have a whiskey thanks despite the coffee poem.
Whiskey coming right up! Ohhhhh yessss…..contractor starts end of summer…the end product is always the prize! 🙂
hello guys and gals’
sorry i am late i have remodeled an anti bullying poem for tonight. i tied to join yesterday evening but after a late zoom meeting my internet crashed and only came back once i was at work tday. will play catch up on the reading over the weekend.
thanks
Good to see you here! I’ve been out of commission but back this morning to finish up commenting on poems posted for OLN. Had some very diverse posts…..and interesting comments on the remodeling theme!
Hi Lillian, sorry I’m super late, found your clue of remodelling an inspiring prompt … so I’ve reinvented myself! A chai latte please, this morning is sunnier and far warmer than the cold we had yesterday.
Oh dear….sorry I missed giving you a chai latte yesterday morning! I was out of commission for the day and just returning today to finish reading and commenting on posts. We’ve had lots of posts for this OLN….diverse and very enjoyable, inspiring and sometimes funny reading them. Glad to see you here!
much appreciated Lillian, you deserve a day off line .. we all do!
Thank you for hosting, Lillian. It’s always a treasure to have Open Link Night. Sorry, this piece I posted is poetic prose, a bit long at that, so I understand if it’s not everyone’s favorite brew. But I do look forward to seeing what my fellow poets have been up to! Peace~Jason
I can’t seem to get my link on MrLlinky? Hmmm…
I’m posting a poem that I got done too late for a previous prompt..Have a nice vacation!!!
Unfortunately, I still can’t get this poem linked. It keeps saying it has already been linked but it doesn’t appear on the list. Strange. It is entitled Doggone Doggie Blues. It is one I wrote to a prompt a week or more ago and the links had closed by the time I finished it. Thought I’d post it for Open Link night, but I guess they just plain do not want this poem…
I’m having the same problem 😦 and was thinking the same thought about my own piece.
It enters it, it shows up and then it disappears. If I try to reenter it, it says it is already entered. And I don’t see anyone who has entered after I tried to. Today I tried entering it and it showed up after I did, but when I went back it was erased and when I tried to enter it, it said I already had. Is this what happened to you?
Yes, exactly, exactly, and I did the same as you. I even cleaned my cookies and relinked, but the error continued, first showing up, then disappearing, then not letting me link again.
My piece was quite a slog, so I figured, for everyone’s sake, maybe the universe was telling me something. 😉
I figured the same.
same here, what a pain … not had this experience before! If Mr Linky is shut you can’t link … but I linked mine 18 hours ago and it’s vanished? Maybe Mr Linky has already checked out for his holiday …
p.s. You’re on the linky list also, Kate. Another ghost in the machine! Look now and let me know if you can see your Mr. Linky link will you please?
ah such a relief, there at 43, thanks Lisa!
Glad it showed up, Kate. I’ve never seen Mr. Linky misbehave like that before. He needs 30 lashes with a wet noodle.
lol that is an interesting visual … can you livestream that please Lisa!
🙂
sorry you’ve been renamed in keeping with this fiasco … Madam Lash!
I just came to the pub to catch up on reading and the button was gone, which turned into a domino effect. lol on the name 🙂
good to know you don’t mind ML 🙂
Mine actually showed up in the list both the first and the last time, but promptly disappeared so when I went back to check, it was gone.
Lisa just checked in after lashing Mr L with a wet noodle … yours shows up twice!
try it now
Thanks, Kate. I saw it. Man, we had to work for this one. Usually goes through without a hitch.
yes for sure, we are too used to WP gremlins but Mr L has usually performed perfectly!
I know. It was reassuring to see others were sharing the problem.
Hi there! Sorry, was out and about yesterday so returning this morning to finish reading and commenting on the OLN posts….so many and such good writing! I did quickly look and it seems you’ve posted your Doggie Blues is actually posted twice. I’ll be getting to the reading in a minute….just finishing the chat here with folks.
I just came to read and see the Mr. Linky button disappeared. Will look into it and see if it can be restored…
OK now that was weird…. I went to check at Mr. Linky and when I came back here the button returned. I see Judy, Jason, Moazzam, and “s.s.” as the last ones on the linky list. The link expired 44 minutes ago so no more can be added, but try refreshing your screens and maybe now you can see them?
Thanks for the due diligence! I just figured Mr. Linky had hung around the bar too long and was passed out under the billiards table.
LOL!
