Boo!
Enter if you dare…
It’s monstrous Quadrille Monday here at your favorite poetry haunt, and that means it’s time to scare up a precariously pithy poem. Devious De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo, devilishly delighted to be hosting my favorite prompt. With the Quadrille, we pen poems of precisely 44 words – including one word we here at dVerse provide.
In the interest of today’s Halloween scene in some areas of the world, I want you to try your haunted hands at writing a poem that includes some form of the word scare: Scarecrow. Scary. Scared. Scaring. Scarier. Scaremonger. Scare tactics. Scare quotes. Scared stiff. Scared silly. Scare the living daylights out…
Use it as a noun, adjective, or verb. Get spooky with your poem or give us your sweetest poetic tricks and treats. Go with a hair-raising rhyme scheme, or some frightening free verse. Short form can feel like a curse, but it makes you take some risks, and make some word choices you might normally miss.
New to the Q? Don’t be a scaredy cat! Here’s what to do:
Scare up a poem of exactly 44 words, including some form of the word scare. Post your poem on your own blog and link up with us using the Mr. Linky below. Then ghost-and-coast your way around the web, visiting the posts of some of the most frighteningly talented poets around. The Quadrille is open through Friday, so be sure to come back to haunt us again later in the week!

Hello dVersers! It’s Halloween in the US – BOO!!!
I’m down to 5 eyedrops a day after my first cataract surgery….have the left lens popped out of my glasses…as that’s the eye corrected so far. BUT, the worse cataract is in the right eye….so I’m all discombobled now. I put on “readers” and I can see out of the left eye to read but the right eye is still screwed up with the cataract. I put on my old glasses, and everything is out of balance because the left lens is popped out. So I shall read here for a while….but then I get a headache. I did post and am back to writing….I just can’t read for a long time. Second surgery is Nov 16 and then I’ll be off for a couple weeks till eyes stabilize. I will be SOOOO glad to have it all done! I HATE not being able to read!
That’s my spookytacular halloween story for you!

Oh, man. So sorry, Lillian. That sounds like a nightmare, indeed. Praying for you!

In the scheme of things….I should not complain. Many many folks face much more hardships. But….all will be well in another month or so! 🙂
paeansunplugged said:
Take care, Lill. Don’t strain your eyes. All the best for 16th.

Well, it’s a little scary how much is on my plate today. Gotta step away from the bar for a little bit. But I’ll leave some spooky snacks, and the keys. Happy poeming to all. I’ll dip in and out throughout the day as I can, and get caught up with reading all your scary poems.

Thank you for hosting De! Very appropriate, but for me, an most unsettling prompt. Dread, fear, ‘scaredness’, terror is someting I experience most every night. Since I was a child I have suffered from something clinically referred to as “night terrors”. These are *not* nightmares — they are deep fear, terror, trauma that emerges from… nothing. Most who experience these young, grow out of them. The result of my early childhood traumas, I never have. I share my poem and art piece to express what I experience nearly every night — being scared. ✌🏼❤️

Yikes, Rob! I’m so sorry you have to endure that. Sending you peaceful thoughts.
