Hi folks! As we get together to write the favourite, homegrown poetry form, quadrille, this last Monday of May, it is blazingly hot in my part of the world. Though we did have a thunderstorm yesterday, the baking heat is too much to bear!

As I munch on a slice of cool, crisp and sweet watermelon with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, let me admit, I am a sucker for punishment. So let’s raise the heat a notch further by adding a wee bit of pepper to our verses.

Like Nancy Willard you could share a recipe…or is it?

How to stuff a pepper

Now, said the cook, I will teach you

how to stuff a pepper with rice.

Take your pepper green, and gently,

for peppers are shy.  No matter which side

you approach, it’s always the backside.

Perched on green buttocks, the pepper sleeps.

You can also use it as a metaphor.

Family Function

Does your family season its conversation with

gallons of salt, while forgetting to add sugar?

Would you rather season your conversation

with extra hot ghost pepper sauce?

Maybe you know someone named Pepper.

Pepper Perfectly Pompous Poodle

Pepper the pink and red poodle with her nose in the air

Walked down the runway without a concern or care

She knew the peons were watching her swag

But barely gave them even the hint of a wag.

Black pepper, green pepper, red pepper or Chipotle pepper, the choice is yours, pepper your quadrille with some heat inducing peppers!

Red Pepper

Red pepper is a kind fire

burning without flames

causing eyes to rain without clouds

The challenge

If you are a regular at our pub, you know the drill. For those new to Q, write a verse of exact 44 words (excluding the title) using pepper or any form of the word like peppering, peppered or peppermint.

Now go raise the heat, share your peppered with pepper poetry and please come back for more pepperment!

Please write a post on your blog.

Leave the link of your post at Mr. Linky.

Enjoy the pepperlicious posts shared by others!

I have never had Dr. Pepper in my life and if you are affronted that I did not mention it even once, I offer the following as a peace offering.

And of course, this one!
