Hi folks! As we get together to write the favourite, homegrown poetry form, quadrille, this last Monday of May, it is blazingly hot in my part of the world. Though we did have a thunderstorm yesterday, the baking heat is too much to bear!
As I munch on a slice of cool, crisp and sweet watermelon with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, let me admit, I am a sucker for punishment. So let’s raise the heat a notch further by adding a wee bit of pepper to our verses.
Like Nancy Willard you could share a recipe…or is it?
Now, said the cook, I will teach you
how to stuff a pepper with rice.
Take your pepper green, and gently,
for peppers are shy. No matter which side
you approach, it’s always the backside.
Perched on green buttocks, the pepper sleeps.

You can also use it as a metaphor.
Does your family season its conversation with
gallons of salt, while forgetting to add sugar?
Would you rather season your conversation
with extra hot ghost pepper sauce?

Maybe you know someone named Pepper.
Pepper Perfectly Pompous Poodle
Pepper the pink and red poodle with her nose in the air
Walked down the runway without a concern or care
She knew the peons were watching her swag
But barely gave them even the hint of a wag.
Black pepper, green pepper, red pepper or Chipotle pepper, the choice is yours, pepper your quadrille with some heat inducing peppers!
Red pepper is a kind fire
burning without flames
causing eyes to rain without clouds
The challenge
If you are a regular at our pub, you know the drill. For those new to Q, write a verse of exact 44 words (excluding the title) using pepper or any form of the word like peppering, peppered or peppermint.
Now go raise the heat, share your peppered with pepper poetry and please come back for more pepperment!
Please write a post on your blog.
Leave the link of your post at Mr. Linky.
Enjoy the pepperlicious posts shared by others!
I have never had Dr. Pepper in my life and if you are affronted that I did not mention it even once, I offer the following as a peace offering.
And of course, this one!
Hi everyone! Welcome to quadrille Monday. In keeping with the prompt, on our menu tonight we have black pepper and parmesan crackers, black pepper chicken tikka, chorizo stuffed jalapeno poppers, mango ice-cream, mango cheesecake, masala chai with ginger and black pepper, tea, coffee and any other drink of your choice.
I like the sound of those black pepper and parmesan crackers! And mango ice cream!
Black pepper and parmesan crackers are yum. I bake them often. Mango ice-cream too is delicious.
Good evening poets and thank you, Punam, for hosting today with a spicy prompt. A spicy non-alcoholic drink would be very welcome, as it’s a bit chilly here in Norfolk at the moment.
Hello, Kim! How about a spiced honey punch to keep you warm!
Sounds just right, Punam!
Great! 👍🏼
Ah yes. Our Rainy Season has been officially anounced as of Friday 26th May. Hooray for the coolness!!!!! but; there will be areas of flooding no fun whatsoever; and the Atlantic storms – scary, yes indeed.
For the first time in years about 3 years ago, (i having been living on this property since 1972) bits of my roof were blown away. Talk about climate change!!!
Happy Monday dear poets.
Much💖live
Officially rains are still more than a month away but this year whenever it gets too hot, it rains but during the winter when it usually, rains it did not. If this is not climate change, what is!
Blowing away of roof sounds scary, Gillena. I hope the Atlantic storms are not too scary.
Happy Monday to you too. ❤️

Hello, Punam. I’ve added another link. All my URL addresses went strange, all became the same! but they seem to have righted themselves now
Hi Jane. Thanks for adding another link. The first one was not working. I am glad they have righted themselves. I will try and remove the previous link.
Okay folks, good night. The bar is open, please help yourselves. Will catch up later during the day.
I like your spicy prompt! Thanks for hosting!
Glad you liked it, Dwight.

Sweet and sour take so good Punam. I love it! It was hot as blazing then we had thunder and lightening last night.. wild!
Not sure I did this right but this is for your eyes only 😂
Some like it hot, some like it cold.
I prefer sweet and sour, if the truth be told.
Sour grapes for the toads of the world,
hot peppers and watermelon to keep it real.
chop, dice, don’t mince words
palates, cooled by a beer.
😝
Yes, the weather is like this here too!
You did it not just right but deliciously right!
The toads can sure have the sour grapes! 😂😂
And yes, let’s not mince words but make mincemeat of others! 😉
Bravo, Cindy! Thanks for joining in. 💖💖
Oh, this should be an interesting one to write to! And may I say how much I adore Nancy Willard’s poem? Thanks for sharing it.
I’ll be back a little later to post and read. I’m not allowed ginger any more because of high blood pressure, but I’d love a virtual ginger tea when I return, thanks.
Thank you, Rosemary. I am pleased you enjoyed it.
Look forward to your quadrille. A hot cup of ginger tea will be waiting for you when you return.
Sabio, if you are reading this, please not your link is not working.
