Hello dear dVersians, it’s Quadrille time!

Michelle Beauchamp here (aka Mish) as your host. Pull up a seat and help yourself to some freshly popped popcorn, slathered with hot butter or if you prefer, I have some air-popped, drizzled in avocado oil, with a dash of Cajun seasoning. To quench your thirst, we have a large variety of “soda” or “soda pop” which in Canada we usually just refer to as “pop”. Orange Crush, Vernors Gingerale, Jarritos Lemon Lime Soda, Masala Soda or how ’bout an Australian Bundaberg Root beer? So glad you popped in!

Yes, as you may have guessed we are putting a little ……..

…..into our 44 word wonders.

Here are some possibilities you could pop into your poem –

pop, popping, popped, poppers, pop star, sugar pops, mom and pop, poppycock, lollipop, cake pop, pop off, pop in, pop art, pop music, pop the question, snap/crackle/pop, pop rocks, pop top, pop eyed, pop gun, electropop

Colours pop, nature pops. We are inundated with “pop” everything in the media (pop culture, pop psychology, pop politics). People pop in and out of our lives. Unfortunate events and hard doses of reality can suddenly pop our bubble. The word “pop” can also add a bit of onomatopoeia to your writings.

So are you ready to take a pop at it?

Let’s blow this popsicle stand!

Remember that your quadrille must be exactly 44 words in total, not including the title. It must contain the word “pop” or a form of the word. You are not required to use “pop” as an overall theme.

Here’s how to join in:

  • Write a quadrille as described and post it on your blog or website.
  • Enter your name and direct link to your poem in Mr. Linky.
  • Follow the links to other poets. Read, comment and come back later as the prompt is open all week.
  • Provide a link to dVerse so others can find us too.
  • Drop in to say hello in our discussion below.
  • Have fun!!

I’ll let Poppin’ John close out our quadrille today with some popping dance. (“a funk dance and street dance style based on the technique of quickly contracting and relaxing muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body, referred to as a pop or a hit. This is done continuously to the rhythm of a song in combination with various movements and poses.”) wikipedia.org
