Welcome to OpenLinkNight everyone! As you know, OpenLinkNight is your opportunity to share 1 poem of your choice. If you missed the Mr Linky deadline in our previous prompts, this is the time to share your poem. As was noted here, we are implementing 2 changes for the 2024 OpenLinkNight.
1.LIVE meeting will now be once a month, Saturdays from 10am to 11am EST. During this time, there will be reading and sharing of poems virtually as we have done in previous year.
Here are the dVerse LIVE events you can book from our calendar here:
*February 17, 2024
*March 16, 2024
2. We will offer an Optional poetry prompt. This is for those poets who are looking for poetry prompts, and participation is optional.
Here is the mini-optional prompt:
Woman with flowered hat by Jean Dupas
1. Use the image above as a muse for your poem. Write an ekphrastic poem.
2. Or use the title of the image as part of your poem: Woman with flowered hat.
There is no poetry form required for this mini-optional prompt.
***
For additional inspiration, here is a poem by Amy Lowell.
The Artist
BY AMY LOWELL
Why do you subdue yourself in golds and purples?
Why do you dim yourself with folded silks?
Do you not see that I can buy brocades in any draper’s shop,
And that I am choked in the twilight of all these colors.
How pale you would be, and startling—
How quiet;
But your curves would spring upward
Like a clear jet of flung water,
You would quiver like a shot-up spray of water,
You would waver, and relapse, and tremble.
And I too should tremble,
Watching.
Murex-dyes and tinsel—
And yet I think I could bear your beauty unshaded.

Out of courtesy, please link back to dVerse Poets Pub if you are sharing your poem.

Thanks for hosting, Grace! It’s a rare rainy day here so I guess the sound of rain on our windows motivated me for today’s post. Happy Thursday everyone….and I hope you all have a great weekend! I’ll see you on Monday when I’ll be hosting our Quadrille prompt.
Grace said:
Hi Lillian. Grey and cloudy here too. But weekend is getting better with some sunshine. Have a great weekend and see you next week.

Hi everyone! Thanks for joining us. We have coffee, tea and some pastries for you, while reading poems. I am out in the city, but will be around to visit and comment in a bit. Enjoy your day!

Good evening all, and thank you for hosting Grace. I love ekphrastic prompts and the image you chose is so quirky, how could I not choose the mini-prompt?

Hi Grace, and thank you for hosting! I feel bad that I’ve missed the other prompts this week. Thank you for the ekphrastic prompt. I used it for inspiration, along with the day.
I keep getting interrupted, so I’ll catch up on reading over the next couple of days. 😊
Grace said:
Hi Merril, I love ekphrastic prompts. Looking forward to reading your take. Have a good weekend!

Hello Grace, and everybody; hope everyone is having a nice, creative evening / day. Went for the optional prompt this time; always feel bad when I dont, but also don’t want to overwhelm by sharing two things.
Grace said:
Hi Oloriel! Thanks for joining in. OpenLinkNight is anything goes, even poems you have written before. Looking forward to reading yours. Note, after reading your poem – that was an amazing one. WOW!!!

Hiya Grace! Gave a fresh eye to something from October and glad that I did as it is stronger than it was. Thanks for that!

Good Evening, Poets! Thanks, Grace, for hosting OLN. I wrote a haibun chronicling my latest bout with illness. Better make it a camomile tea tonight, just to be safe. 😉
I’ll see you all on the poetry trail tomorrow.
Grace said:
Hi Frank. Camomile tea coming up for you. Hope you are doing much better. I am just making the rounds myself now. See you!!!!

Evening all! Thanks Grace for the lovely image. I enjoyed using it. A coffee with whipped cream on top, please? Trying to lose holiday poundage, no pastries for this lady, is pleasingly plump a good thing? On second thought, cut the cream.
Grace said:
Hi Helen. A coffee for you. I am trying to lose some of that myself. But the main thing is to be healthy and enjoying life. Smiling at your comment with cutting the cream. Have a good weekend.
Kim of Glover Gardens said:
Thanks for the OLN invitation, Grace; you and the other OLN hosts are helping me make friends with my old poems, and I’m so grateful. I’m the Accidental Poet for whom Death was the primary muse (family member died, Kim must write a poem to recite at the funeral), and have only recently begun to appreciate that the works have a more lasting value.
So – appreciative of the validation, perhaps I could serve YOU a drink and a snack? Steak bites with chimichurri and a glass of bubbly? Just let me know… 🙂
Grace said:
Kim, we are thankful that we all found each other. Writing can be a solitary activity and but when it is shared, can take a different life on its own. I am glad you can revisit old poems and give it more life. Well, I wouldn’t mind a glass of bubbly to share with you. Wishing you a good weekend.

Hi Stephen. My apologies for the late reply as your comment went to the spam box. For this one, Mr. Linky closes Saturday at 3pm EST.
