Lillian here, hosting Quadrille Monday at dVerse. For those of you unfamiliar with this particular poetry form created by dVerse: a Quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words, not including the title. In addition, the pubtender (host) of Quadrille Mondays, specifies one word that must be included in the body of the Quadrille. Writers must use the exact word provided, or a form of the word; not a synonym of the word.
So . . . when you were little did you like to pretend? Not just at Halloween . . . but maybe with friends who came over to play? Or perhaps you’ve had fun playing with your children or grandchildren, pretending to be pirates looking for treasure; or playing house with dolls and maybe “cooking food” in a play kitchen. Maybe you played school? Or perhaps you donned “dress-up clothes” and pretended to be a princess, king, doctor, firefighter, or ballerina. Children pretend so easily. We adults use our imaginations to go along with their ideas.
So today’s word to include in the body of your quadrille is “imagine” – or you may use a form of the word.
When I hear the word “imagine” I immediately connect it to John Lennon. I’ve heard his beautiful song many times, but I’d never seen the John Lennon Imagine Official Video until I googled the song for this post. I’ve linked to it below. Be patient, it takes a bit for the actual song to begin. So wonderful to see John Lennon singing these words and to see Yoko Ono with him.
New to dVerse? Need to be refreshed on the rules? Here’s what to do:
- Write a quadrille (a poem of EXACTLY 44 words, not including the title) AND include the word “imagine” or a form of the word within the body of the poem. A synonym for imagine does not fulfill the prompt. It must be the word, or a form of the word.
- Post the poem to your blog AND add the exact URL for your poem to Mr. Linky below.
- REMEMBER to either TAG dVerse in your post, or include a link at the end of your poem that leads readers back to dVerse (https://dversepoets.com).
- If you do not TAG or include a link to dVerse at the end of your post, I will gently remind you to do so. After all, this will increase your readership and comments, and others will find dVerse and hopefully join in the fun. If you do not add the TAG or link after my reminder, I will remove your post from Mr. Linky. I do not want to do that! So please do include the TAG or link!
Have fun with the prompt! Come use your imagination and play with me today!

Hello Kim, Bjorn, Lillian, and All. I decided to play with this one also. Bjorn didn’t realize it was Chinese New Year coming up but chose to write about a Chinese dragon by chance!

Greetings from soggy San Diego! Glad to see you here…..shall be zipping over to read prompts in a bit. Am sure there will be many unimaginable posts today….full of imagination…..taking us to many places and full of unimagined fun, and maybe even some new words fresh off a dVerser’s imagination today!

Welcome to Imagine time at dVerse! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Monday! Today in the part of San Diego where we are for two months, we are completely safe from the devastating floods hitting other parts of the city….the low lying parts. For me, I always call these kinds of cloudy days, “make you own sunshine” kinds of days.
So step right up to the pub….many drinks available and special orange cake made with fresh California oranges is offered as a wonderful snack. Can’t wait to see how all your imaginations work today!

Hi Lillian. Great prompt. It could go in so many ways. Imagine immediately took me to one of my favorite songs buy Don Williams and Keith Urbin called “Imagine That”. And also to childhood where imagination ran free! A mug of hot chocolate would be great on a cold winter day.
lillian said:
Good to see you here, Dwight! A mug of hot chocolate coming right up….and hope you don’t mind, am adding just a few miniature marshmallows to the top! :) Ah yes….the imagination of children! I think that’s one of the great things about being a parent and a grandparent is you get to enter into that special world again 🙂

To be a poet it to imagine the unimaginable!

Stepping away from the pub for a bit….not to worry, leaving the door open until I come back a bit later tonight. Looking forward to more imaginative posts accumulating while I’m out. Oh….and help yourselves to orange cake!

Good evening, poets! Thanks for hosting, lillian! I’ll have glass of burgundy, when you get a chance! 😉

Leaving the pub for the night now. Key is, as always, under the potted plant to the right of the door. Come on in and help yourself to a beverage and a piece of orange cake. No tip or payment needed, except a poem of exactly 44 words, sans title, that includes the word “imagine” or a form of the word. Do close the door on the way out, and replace the key so others can come on in. I’ll be back in the morning to read!

How long is Mister Linky live? It says it expired 81.5 minutes ago. Is there a specific time the prompt closes?
