Greetings, my passionate poetical peoples! De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo here, and if you’re in the mood to write a poem of exactly 44 words today, this must be the place. It’s Quadrille Monday here at the pub, that magical twice-monthly time when we pen pieces of precisely 44 words, using one word we here at dVerse provide to you.
Today, I’d like you to play with the word place.

Write about your birthplace, your workplace, a fireplace, or something even more commonplace. Get mathematical on us and write about place value. Get scientific and write about displacement. Your place or mine? Write about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Take us someplace new, or no place at all. Hey, you could even write about the place-ebo effect. Just don’t get complacent and misplace your muse.
My muse loves the incomparable Mr. Silverstein, so here you go:

New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Head over to your own blog and pen us a poem of exactly 44 words (not counting the title), including some literal form of the word place. Link up below at Mr. Linky so we can come on over to your place and read…and then visit some of the finest poets in outer poetry space. The Q is open all week, so be sure to come back and read and write some more!

Now get out there and…
And here’s a little musical inspiration to get your pen dancing:
Linkin Park: “A Place for My Head”
Lorde: “Perfect Places”
Keith Urban: “No Place Like Hometown”

Thanks for hosting, De….and good afternoon fellow dVersers! It’s a beautiful spring day here in Boston….so I probably won’t be on the reading trail until tomorrow morning.
Hi, Lill! Enjoy that gorgeous spring day! It’s hot already here at my place! Whew!
Greetings, fellow poets! It’s time to place your bets, and place your best poems right here! Your favorite poeming place is serving up drinks, snacks, and words on silver platters. Happy poeming!
Hi De!👋🏻 Hey everybody. Enjoying the beautiful spring day in this place I call home.🏡
Wonderful, Melissa! So happy you’re here, in this place! 🙂
Hello De, Hi all,
Thanks for hosting, thanks for the prompt. My phone is doing some funny business so this may be a dupe, if just clear one for me. Be back to read.
Thanks
Pat
Hello De and All. De, thank you for hosting and for a great word to poem to. It got a little chilly today with the rain, so could I please have a hot cocoa with a shot of Baileys?
You got it, Lisa! It’s 90+ here already today, so I am envying your chill! Enjoy!
90+!? Oh my! Thanks, De. Cheers! Pour yourself a cool drink please.
Will do, Lisa. Thank you! 🙂
this was a good one De – and I’ve always loved the Silverstein poem. Just eaten at my place but I fancy a hot chocolate with loads of cream on top (this the only place I dare order one!)
Coming right up, Laura! Cheers and happy poeming!
Hi De. Thank you for hosting. Love the Q word, the spring season and the platters of poems.
Happy to see you, Grace! Cheers!
Good evening poets, and thank you De for hosting. I’m very tired this evening and tomorrow I#m spending the day with my husband as it’s his birthday. But I’ll be around first thing in the morning to read and comment.
Happy to see you here, Kim. And happy birthday to your hubby!
Thank you, De!
p.s. Love your musical selections also.
Thanks, Lisa. 🙂

Amen, Sister (of Whitman). That is such a good quote.
🙂 ❤
Hi De and all. Thank you for hosting and for the great prompt word. So many ways to go with it. I’ve written lots of poems about place, so I decided to write something a bit different.
Excellent, Merril! So happy to see you!
Thank you.😊 It’s been a rough few weeks.

Awesome, rog. Always good to see you!
A beautiful day in Bend, our apple tree is in FULL bloom! Iced tea, a sprig of mint, no sugar please .. and thank you. “Place” is such a lovely word.
You got it, Helen. Sounds heavenly! Happy poeming!
Hi De… you have given us a great prompt with many places to go with it.
Thanks for hosting.
How about a rootbeer float with chocolate ice cream!
Holy cow, Dwight. That sounds AMAZING. I will join you!
It is delicious!
Thank you De, for hosting. Be fun to see where this prompt goes. 🙂✌🏼🫶🏼
My pleasure, Rob! Hope you find some inspiration here.
Good evening De and all. 🙂 I am late to the party but so happy to link up. Just so happened to have one filed away and found the perfect “place” for it. 🙂
Hi, Mish! So happy you’re here! Heading over in a few minutes!
Thanks for hosting – so many places to travel to this evening. I decided to write about trying to find a place to see the northern lights this past weekend. Fantastical for this area
AWESOME, Trueness! We had some locals here in Southern Nevada take some cool pics, but not much seen with the naked eye. What an amazing phenomenon!
Thanks for the prompt.
My pleasure, Roberta. 🙂
Back from the workplace
There’s no loving embrace
Just that look on your face
As is always the case
With my next fall from grace
“Just look at this place!
It’s an utter disgrace
So allow me some space
Go and pack a suitcase.”
Awwww. This is sad, Richmond. Thanks for sharing!
Sort of inspired by a song a very good old friend of mine wrote about half a century ago, and still performs occasionally now – ‘Kitchen Man’ … https://youtu.be/HIS2Xn-DUlg?si=qNCTQZ6Ny31_8nqo
Or, alternatively, another from way back then … https://youtu.be/LmE9MvLb7w8?si=vekML8RP6p1qBuI4
Hi De, everyone, placing my bet 🙂
Excellent! Heading back out to read now!
Hi De and everyone,
Thanks for hosting. Place is so commonplace and yet packs a punch. Lovely selection of poems, thank you. 🙂
Thanks, Kitty. So happy to see you here!
Hi De Jackson, Ken here. I enjoyed the prompt! 👍😁 Just posted the link to my contribution over at Mr. Linky there. Hope ye enjoy the read! 🤞🙏😁📖
Awesome, Ken! Happy to see you!
I’m super-late to the party but glad you all saved a ‘place’ for me! 😎
Looking forward to reading all your poems, and I’ll just take a cup of coffee for today. Thanks for the prompt, De!
Comin’ right up, Kim. And the Quadrille is open all week, so “latecomers” welcome!
Here’s my poem. Thank you for this! This was really inspiring to me!
So happy you found some inspiration here! I’m getting caught up on reading now. 🙂
hey De. Thanks. I came after reading Lesley’s amazing post. Thanks for having me. I love Quadrilles especially the length the prompt is open. Thank you. Here’s it from me

and herb tea would go well with me. It’s close to bedtime and my cold lingers. So yes. Herb tea please.
Hello All. thanks All. 🤗
Herb tea coming right up, Selma. Happy to see you here!
I hope my comment on your poem stuck over at your blog. Seems to have gotten lost in the ether on my end. Loved your piece. Got lost in all that blue. Which is one of my favorite things to do.
I am quite late but here it is: https://roberta-writes.com/2024/05/18/roberta-writes-a-trio-of-dverse-poems-poetry-elephant-herds/
Happy to see you, Roberta. Heading over now!
Thank you
