Greetings, poeming friends! De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo here.
It’s that time again: Quadrille Monday, when we spin ’round our keyboards, our pens and our quills, and share poems of exactly 44 words – including one word we here at dVerse provide.
Today, I want you to put your poems on spin cycle.

An excerpt from “Spinning,” by Helen Hunt Jackson. Read the rest of the poem here.

Take a spin around Hello:Poetry for more spun poems, here:
Let’s play spin the bottle. Go to spin class. Write a spin cycle laundry poem. Spin us a yarn, a web of lies, or some poetry gold. Bring out your fidget-spinners, your spiders, your sitcom spin-offs, your Rumpelstiltskin spinning wheel. You can even write about spinach if you please, or better yet, a spin-ache. Spin the Wheel of Fortune, or just keep spinning your wheels.
Backspin. Spindrift. Spinnaker. Spinneret. Spinster. Spindle. There are a million ways to take a poetry spin around this Quadrille dance floor, so long as you give your poem a little spin and use only 44 words in total. You might just wind up with spun gold.
New to the Q? Here’s what to do:
Don’t go into a tailspin. Just spin us a poem of precisely 44 words (not counting the title), containing some form or other of the word spin. Post the poem on your own blog and link up using the Mr. Linky below. Then spin out into that beautiful blogosphere to enjoy all the amazing poems. Some of the most incredible poets spin their stories right here at dverse. The Q is open all week long, so be sure to come back and take a second spin around the track.
Speaking of tracks, let me spin you a record or two (or three) to get you in the mood…
Spin Me Round – Dead or Alive
Spin You Around – Morgan Wallen
Spinning Wheel – Blood, Sweat, & Tears
Greetings, poets! I’m so happy you’re here to spin your poem-stories with me today. I’ve got some records on, and I’m serving up slurpies (it’s still HOT here!), cotton candy, and some Chex mix spun in chocolate. Happy writing!
Oh.. so good to be here for a spin…
Any one remembering this spinning?

Yesss! A favorite. Saw them in concert several times in the early 90s. Almost shared this one. Thanks, B. Listening again now.
Love that music. Welcome back Bjorn!
Good to see you again Björn – seems ages…
Hi De. Thanks for hosting. Cotton candy with slurpies sounds good to me. We are coming to the end of summer here with the cooler air and longer night. Love the Q word and music.
Oh, Grace. How I long for those cooler nights! They don’t really arrive here until after Halloween. But your poem took me there, thank you.
thank you De for spinning all these poems as inspiration – great prompt but its cool here so I’ll pass on the slurpies
Envying your Fall weather, Laura. And brewing tea.
Thank you for hosting, De. I enjoyed reading the selected poems. 🙂
My pleasure, Kitty! Happy poeming, and reading!

As an Astronomer, I love a bit of spin! everything out there turns and spins!!
Love it!
I have fallen to great silliness. Enjoy my quadrille!
Ok, this is officially my favorite phrase of the day so far:
“I have fallen to great silliness.”
Yes, please. Heading over now.
Hi De–thank you for hosting. I’ll pass on slurpies, but I’m willing to share the peach cake I just baked!
Oh, MY. Yes, please. Sounds amazing.
It tastes better when shared. 😋
Lovely…I’ll finally write that poem about spin the Bottle that I never thought I would……I am not being facetious….you took me to very young days there…thanks!
Hi, A.H.! So happy you found some inspiration here. Spin away!
What a nice prompt! I went dark but am looking forward to being inspired by the other poets’ poems. I’ll just have a cup of hot spiced tea with that chocolate chex mix – thanks!
Comin’ right up, Kim. Welcome! Glad you’re here!
Thanks for hosting – looking forward to reading all the spun poetry.
Hi, Truedessa. Happy to see you here!
What a delicious intricate spun yarn of a prompt, De – it sent me quite cosmic…
I’m up for a Fairly-traded coffee, Columbian please, with a spun froth of oat-milk today, with your twirling chocolate as a chaser…
Yum. You got it. And glad you found a side of inspiration here, too!
What a deliciously spinning prompt you have set us, De! I found myself going cosmic…
I’ll have a frothy swirl of Columbian Fairtrade coffee with your starry-eyed chocolate chex as a chaser please x
🙂
Plenty of scope with this De, many thanks.
My pleasure, Paul. Heading out to catch up on reading soon.
All in good time, I’m constantly duck paddling most days to keep up.
Great prompt De and a great response – 48 already! I have taken it literally and written about washing clothes but must fly off to work now so I’ll have a coffee to go please…
Oh and great tracks too!
Coming right up!
Snuck this one under the wire. I missed the laughter prompt, not kidding, by 10 minutes. So I combined them!
Great idea, Xan. Have been out of town, but heading over now. 🙂
I didn’t make it in time for Mr. Linky, but here’s my response. Thank you so much for this site! https://wrestlingwordblog.wordpress.com/2024/09/11/mind-shift/
AND, it’s not 44 words! Oh well, enjoy.
