Greetings, Poets! De Jackson here, aka WhimsyGizmo, and it’s time again for the Quadrille, that pithy little poem of our own making right here at dVerse. In short (pun intended), a Quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words, not counting the title, including one word we provide.

This week, I thought it would be interesting to use an interrogative word.

What the what? Yep, that’s right, this week I want you to include some form of the word what in your 44-word poem.

Use your piece to tell us what’s upwhat you had for breakfast, or what you did on your summer vacation. Ponder what if. Give somebody who deserves it what for. Tell us what came first (The chicken? The egg? That delicious side of bacon?) Ask what on earth? or what the heck? or what in the name of all that is holy

Or get creative and whatnot. Maybe someone’s got a mega-what smile or walks with a what-tle. Whatever you choose to do with the word, just let your whatsits fly.

Here’s a little poetical inspiration from Shel Silverstein and Elizabeth Barrett Browning (what a pair they would have made, huh?)

If you’re still feeling somewhat trepidatious, or any pause whatsoever, just throw in some sort of whatchamacallit, and call it a day.

New to the Q? Here’s WHAT to do:
Pen us a poem of precisely 44 words (not counting the title), literally including some form of the word what. Post your poem on your own blog, and link up using the Mr. Linky below. Then see what’s up with your fellow poets by paying their poems a visit. Don’t forget, the Quadrille is up all week long, so feel free to come back and read and write some more!

I’ll leave you with some musical inspiration to give your muse a little you-know-what.

And then there’s this classic Abbott and Costello bit.

It’s called “Who’s on First,” but…well, you’ll see…
