Hello, my dear regulars and the newcomers! Today is special. For today is the very last Quadrille Monday of this calendar year! (Drum rolls, please)

2024, like many of its predecessors, was/is(🤔) a mixed bag year. Elections, wars, freak weather were some of the highlights or maybe the low points. And yet, all is never lost. We always have hope by our side.

So let’s end this year with a “bang” with a hope that 2025 will be year of peace,  of better choices and more importantly of tolerance and not hatred.

As you may have guessed, our word for tonight’s quadrille, which is a poem of exactly 44 words, not including the title, should have the word “bang” in it. It could be about getting bangs, getting bang for the buck, bang against the wall, being bang on, banger of a song, banger and mash, of course The Big Bang Theory and so forth.

Here are a few excerpts from some poems to inspire you.

  1. Big Bang Theory by Black Narcissus

Big bang, they say, big bang, big bang, big bang;

then sit back as though everything is said,

but that does not explain the whole shebang

and what I read is far above my head.

They talk at length of singularity,

to me that means just one … Do ones go boom?

Science gives us theories of evolution

As they try to explain away creation

Bang!, and the universe was born

Night brings the stars then fades into dawn

  1. Big Bang Theory by Joseph May

But there is order in planets and stars

Was that accidental?, or a theory too far

Just one look around, just one glance

To wonder if all this came about by chance?

  1. Bang, Bang, Bang by Melissa Schreuder

He points his finger, and yells

‘Bang, bang, bang! ‘He pretends

He’s a cow boy shooting

All the bad guys away

‘Bang, bang, bang! ‘.

His mother yells ‘it’s time

For breakfast Jordan’

He points his finger into his pocket

And yells ‘bang, mommy help me,

I shot myself in the leg with my own gun’.

  1. Bang by Felix BlackHeart

I want to just be,

alone in my head,

With these thoughts so long,

I’m up late at night,

with these thought going by,

It’s now 6 am,

and I’m still up,

Haven’t slept in 6 days,

Because I’m thinking of you,

I need to sleep,

I wan to be,

So I’ll get my gun,

it’s the only way,

I put it too my head,

I pull back the trigger,

And….*bang*

  1. Bangs by Roberta Frosty

Last night I had a little too much to drink.

How much is too much?

Hmmm, lemme think…

I.

     Got.

              Bangs.

I got bangs! Did you hear me?

I got ******* bangs!

But this wasn’t a pro job…

I gave myself bangs.

Are the bangs a good haircut?

Do the bangs frame my face?

All solid questions;

It depends on your taste:

  1. Walls are useful things by Andrew John

That neighbour has just banged his door.

Again yet again and yet again.

I, a one of superior quality, wishes to beat

his barking bonce against the wall of his rathole.

But there’d be no grey matter

to dribble down the concrete.

An ugly slimy mush would not be excreted

from that crumbly, crinkly, brainless brainpan.
